No way. Cake Girl is the sister of Kimberly Williams. Gotta love the genes in that family.

Ok ok, how about BOTH?
That's called having your cake and eating it too

there was indeed a point where he said "And that's when I met your mother".

Is that quote verbatim? I'm thinking somebody sniffed too much of the frosting on her cupcakes.

Is that a bad thing?

How were you proven right? There was no such line in that episode.

Read some of these hard core HIMYM fan's reviews. No mention of Ted finding his wife yet
post #67 of 1003
Yeah, I definitely don't think it's been revealed who the mother is yet. I have no memory of Ted saying "and that's how I met your mother" in the wedding episode. All we know is that Robin is not the one he ends up with. Boy she is hot though...
Do we know for sure that he is talking to his kids in the beginning? Have they ever called him Dad? If not, they could be his nieces/nephews which could make Robin his wife in the future.
CPanther,

Thanks to the Pilot just airing again on Monday and I have it still on the DVR, I can tell you we do know for sure that they are his kids because in the intro he says to them "25 years ago before I was Dad...."
There goes that theory...the sappy part of me would like him and Robin together. Although I agree with some others that Cake girl is much more appealing.
Sooner or later it will come back around... and I will accept your apologies then for doubting me .

Of course, if I'm wrong, I will never say another word about the show
post #72 of 1003
If this show does not get cancelled prematurely, I would think the title would be the logical last line in the show. Ted's voiceover goes "And kids, THAT is how I met your mother." and cut to kids (four years older?) looking relieved that they can finally escape from Dad's longgg story. Then fade to video montage. I wonder if the writers already have that planned out?

Of course, there could be a twist where "Aunt" Robin is really the kids mother, but the kids don't know this. But that would be a rather dark twist for a sitcom.
Is it really important to know who the mother is? I know the name of the show is How I Met Your Mother, but watching the whole first season I think that's not the main part of the show. I mean it's a sitcom, not a romantic comedy.

If we were talking about a Lost, then that would be different...

I seem to remember an article way back when the show premiered that the creative minds behind it included the "Aunt Robin" line in the premiere just so people wouldn't get preoccupied with thinking it was her the whole time.

Nope, you're definitely wrong. There was no mention of the mother yet. In the episode that you think you're quoting was just replayed last Monday call The Wedding. At the end of the episode, Ted says the following lines:

For whatever reason, I had let myself believe that tonight would be a turning point. That this was the night my life, my real life, would finally begin. Funny thing is I was not totally wrong. Because that nightwas just beginning.

That's it. The episode ends.

Has he ever refered to Lilly as Aunt Lilly? I think Barney and Robin end up together. They seemed to be better matched personality wise with both of them being more free-spirited.

I think he did towards the end of the season but I really can't remember which episode. It might just be my imagination, but I seem to recall it sticking out in my mind at the time because it was the first time I'd heard it.

I think he's called them Uncle Marshall and Aunt Lilly, IIRC. Barney and Robin together? Please, no. That'd make me sad. I see too much of that type oif thing in real life...

Actually it was very early on. The episode that sticks in my mind is "The Duel" where Marshall and Ted fight over the apartment, which is like the 8th episode. The kids say something like "I thought Aunt Lilly lived with you and Uncle Marshall" when told that Lilly had her own apartment (which was turned into a Chinese Restaurant).

I can't believe that Neil Patrick Harris did not get a nomination for Best Supporting Actor in A Comedy for his role as Barney. It is a great character, portrayed perfectly by Harris. When you compare his work as Doggie Howser, you can tell it is a superior job of acting.

You may hate the character, but he plays it perfectly and that is what acting is about.

Why would anybody hate the character? He's my favorite character! I might not like the character in real life, but he's not a real person. And yes, NPH does a great job and was deserving of an Emmy nom.

Yes, NPH is fantastic as Barney, and is the highlight of the show. I just don't want him to end up with Robin.

I can't wait for a new season. This is one of only 2 shows (The Office) of which I even DVR and re-watch the reruns.

"Vomit-Free since '93"....

That cracked me up two-weeks ago. Can't get it out of my head, and I'm not even a drinker. I know that a guy I work with got sloshed sat. night. Today I couldn't resist asking him if he was vomit-free.

The only time I remember him saying "And that's how I met your mother" was in the Thanksgiving episode, referring to a stripper. The kids gasp and he says, "Just kidding."

Well when I'm wrong, I'm wrong . Must have hit the crack pipe too hard that night!

I agree that Barney is the highlight of the show although I can closely empathize with Ted. The episode Game Night was the first real episode that didn't revolve around Ted and was mostly about Barney and his past. No other character (other then Ted) had gotten that treatment yet (okay, maybe the episode Milk was about Lilly). Game Night was definitely one of the best episodes. Another favorite of mine was Mary the Paralegal and it was Barney's diabolicalness that made it great.

I totally forgot about that one. It was an obvious coming line, but still hilarious none the less.

Isn't it weird that the Friends copy, Coupling, started off with the same premise as How I met your Mother, which was after a first date, the daters decide to be friends and she joins his circle of friends. It was successful in England, but not here (the acting sucked in US version).

Maybe thats what I was remembering then... And maybe its not really a joke! Could lead to some interesting plot twists!

A friend of mine had a rough night Saturday and I said she is now vomit free since 8:03.
