The whole point is that in the year 2030, Ted loves his wife very much, and he loves her so much that he wishes he had met her on that April day in 2013 when he was really sad, and gotten to spend an additional 45 days with her. Instead, he meets her at the wedding, 45 days later. He would still love his wife either way, it's just that since she is "the one", he would have liked an additional 45 days with her. Looking back on it from the year 2030, he wishes that his lonely younger self wasn't lonely on that day.
I also do not think she is dead in 2030... I think Ted is just a romantic guy who really loves his wife, and would rather have met her sooner rather than later. Of course the "right time and place" is going to be Barney and Robin's wedding, but that's beside the point.
