This is a thread I created where we can discuss the new Sony S2000 LCD TVs. Intending to replace the A10-series, the new S2000-series comes in four different sizes to satisfy every consumer's needs: 26", 32", 40", and 46" with models KDL-26S2000, KDL-32S2000, KDL-40S2000, and KDL-46S2000 respectively.

The new S-series includes an integrated (built-in) ATSC digital tuner and 1,366 x 768 LCD screen resolution. It comes with Sony's new digital processor chip to reduce "block noise" around letters, such as on-screen graphics and subtitles and enhances contrast, therefore, producing crisp and vivid images. The chip also automatically adjusts greens and blues for truer and brighter colors.

The new S-series incorporates Sony's panel made by S-LCD, which provides wider viewing angles, a faster response time, and a high contrast ratio (1000:1). The S2000 sets also offer flexible connectivity with one HDMI input, two component video inputs, three composite video inputs, and one PC input. Finally, the S2000 sets include a space-saving bottom speaker design, two 10-watt speakers with SRS Tru Surround XT, and VESA compliant mounting holes.

The new KDL-26S2000, KDL-32S2000, KDL-40S2000 will be available in March for about $1,499.99, $1,999.99, and $2,999.99 respectively. The KDL-46S2000 will be available in May for about $4,500.

What are the differences between these models and XBR's, which retail for quite a bit more?

XBR is still the top of sony's LCD. For sony, XBR means highest quality, XBR product usually discontinue before it's outperformed by non-XBR product. Once it's discontinue, there will be a new XBR.

S-series will replace sony's KLV-S32A10 and KLV-S26A10 with same price but upgraded performance.

For the difference between S-series and XBR, refer to sony's website.

We're adding a new master suite to our house and we just got the architect plans. I was hoping for space for a 42" plasma, but it looks like I'm going to have to settle for a 26" (or similar set). These new Sony's look nice. Will keep an eye out on this thread to see what people think.....

It's about 162" and I got it from a local dealer a couple years ago. I love it. It's piano (er, Berlina) black and it looks great in pictures!

damn it!! , i was about to buy a 40" A10 here in mexico this is the deal:

the SonyStyle webpage from mexico offers the 40" A10 before tax in aprox $$$$ USD
and with 12 months no-interest payments of $$$ +tax.
This is a nice price compared to sonystyle canada that sells the same model in about the same price.

So i was going to go for that TV. but i was a little worried about the panel latency.
Then yesterday i saw this Sony new Bravias coming to USA.
I think im going to wait to this new model to be available in amazon, and Im going to Get it!! so im no more worried about the latency of this new panel.
The bad news is that im going to pay more of the cost of this new panels in credit card interests, hehehe. Im not going to wait for this panel to be available in mexico it can take too long, and the XBR model is ÜBER expensive.. like $$$$ USD!! for the 40 inch!!

Im looking forward to read your reviews on this new panel, im almost sure they will be very nice.

I raced one of these in my Firebird (Trans Am/Formula)
and man they are quick, just not quick enough

yes but their will be no final specs on the tv until a sony show this march or april. last CES sony showed a 46in 1080p tv from japan and said it will be out this spring or Q2.

I purchased the 40" from sony.com and I just received it last thursday. I can say it has a fantastic picture. I noticed it doesn't blur with fast moving object like the older XBR in my opinion. I tried all kinds of DVD's but I didn't see any problems with any of them.

PS2 plays without any lag but doesn't look to great. Holding out for PS3 for the hidef gaming.

It says 8 ms (gray to gray) in the specifications page for the KDL-32S2000, same as the XBR.

Why don't you order from sony's site. They shipped my tv early. It wasn't even supposed to ship until the 10th according to the website.

BTW I think people will be impressed with this TV. I still can't believe my eyes. Such a gorgeous picture.

I was wondering if anybody has any experiences with the s2000 model since it's been out in stores for a couple weeks. I went to BB yesterday, and the display looks great. When comparing to the xbr with the wcg-ccfl, I can't really see a big diff in pq.

I saw four boxes of the new Sony KDL-32S2000 in my local Best Buy store today. They are on the top back shelf. But the store does not have a display yet.

Anyone know if this will be available in Canada?

I'm particularly interested in this 40S2000 series because it has 1 more component input than the current S40A10 and this has built in ATSC tuner.

this will mainly be used for HTPC so I'm hoping the VGA port can accept 1360x768, 1:1 pixel mapping. and not fill the screen with a stretched 1280x768 image...

I saw the KDL-32S2000 today along with the KDL-V32XBR1 together. Both are in sports picture mode, 1080i, component video input. To me, the KDL-32S2000 picture looks a little darker and has more color pushed out than the KDL-V32XBR1. Although more contrast than the KDL-V32XBR1, the KDL-32S2000 is more sharper looking than the KDL-V32XBR1. It's really heard to tell the difference since they both look pretty good.
