Yes, the PS3 now supports DTS-MA.

I usually agree with the sentiment, but in this case, searching for the required information would yield 600 pages.

I dunno. I searched the "Blu-ray Players" forum for and the ninth thread listed was entitled "PS3 owners, how do you like your dts hdma?" which consisted basically of people talking about their reactions now that the PS3 had been updated to decode the format.

I have the PS3 connected to my Denon 3808 via HDMI. From there the HDMI output is sent on an HDMI->DVI cable to the TV. For this reason, I am unable to pass YCbCr from my PS3.

I popped in Digital Video Essentials and am unable to pass BTB. I didn't have this problem with my Denon DVD player so I don't "think" it's an RGB issue.

Interestingly, if I set the output to RGB full instead of limited I lose all 3 black bars on the pluge, not just BTB. Huh?!
Can anybody give me some pointers?

I got the dreaded 80029940 error tonight.

I just updated to the newest firmware then started to watch Die Hard 4. We got to about 10 minutes left and the disc started to freeze, so I thought there might be a scratch. I took the disc out but didn't see anything except fingerprints (this is a BB rental). I cleaned the disc as best I could and was able to watch another few minutes then it froze again. I can no longer read the disc or even get into the disc menu.

Is your display calibrated?

Only that disc or any BD or DVD. If any then your BD drive is shot.

I had it ISF calibrated about 2 years ago. However, I generally like to tweak it when I get new hardware.

Ok. I bought a PS3 40 gig today and I bought a Onkyo 885 a couple weeks ago. I did the FW update on the PS3 to 2.3 and set the audio to PCM. I get multi ch. displayed on my pre/pro but it also says 48khz. On my A2 hd-dvd player when I set it up to PCM it reads 96khz and sounds better. Right now I am watching ID4 and have it set for DTS-HD. What might I be doing wrong?

last weekend the PS3 disc drive died, can't watch movies or play games anymore.
I don't think the fan on my PS3 has ever come on. At least, I can't remember ever hearing it. Could be because I play my movies rather loud. Or, my rack is open in the back and it's never come on.

I've still got a Sammy BD in my rack. I've pretty much quit using it entirely once the new FW for the PS3 was installed.

There is really no way to fix that other than to replace the switch. I believe Monoprice advertises that switch is capable of passing 1080p so I'd ask for a refund or replacement.

Well I called monoprice and they asked me what gauge my hdmi cable was, I know I purchased the BJC F2 28Gauge and they said due to the bandwidth 24gauge or lower is recommended. Anyone know if this is any truth? I have a Psyclone Xbox 10FT HDMI 1.3 cable (got it for free with the PS3) going to the monoprice (or receiver now) and then from the output port on the monoprice I have one of the 28Gauge 3ft cables going to the receiver. I ordered some 24 gauge ones from them yesterday and going to see if they help but could someone shed some light on the guage question from monoprice.

It really only depends on how long of a cable run you have. If you're less than 10 feet it really shouldn't matter.

I've seen some mixed reviews on how some of the monoprice HDMI switches handle 1080p - some of them work great and some don't.

It can't hurt to try with some thicker cable, but it sounds more like a switch issue to me.

all my runs are 10ft or under and no walls just straight cables to the unit. Monoprice is offering to replace it for a refund and if there are mixed reviews could someone recommend a good 4x1 switch that is able to pass the newest audio codecs and 1080p with no problems?

I had rented the new GTA 4 game.. to see how the game was.. then decided to buy it from blockbuster video.. it played fine for a couple of days.. then it crashed. where it would not read the disc.. it would play other stuff.. then I got a replacement of the GTA 4 game.. it would not read the disc, and now it cann't read anything else. so I have to send my ps3 to sony to get fixed.
I am not a happy camper right now. luckily I have the panasonic 30 to play my bluray titles.

Does the volume button on the PS3 only effect internal decoded audio? When I bitstream audio the volume does not effect this correct?
I just purchased the Blu Ray Chronicle of Narnia movie and evry 5-7 minutes, the movie will skip a scene.

Has anyone heard of this problem before or possibly a remedy? PS3 games are all fine.

Thanks!

pyrodex -- I have a 6' 28 gauge monoprice HDMI cable and it is OK, but marginal (it works, no sparklies, but I get occasional green video flashes - which also could be the source too). Getting the heaviest (lowest gauge number that makes sense (as monoprice recommends) and is the wisest choice. You also want to get one that is HDMI 1.3/1.3a certified. I also have 12', a 25', a 35' AWG24 HDMI cable, and a 50' AWG22 HDMI cable (from monoprice) and they are all from monoprice and work fine. However, they are heavy and, somewhat stiff, so I also got their 8" "port saver" HDMI cables (AWG28) for connecting to my equipment on either end (so I don't break the equipment connector solder joints).

Sparklies indicate that the cable (or switch) isn't quite up to the task.

I want to make sure I understand it correctly, that the remote is only RF?.

No way to learn it to a universal remote?

Thanks

The remote is bluetooth you can use it with a universal remote but you need a bluetooth to IR converter.

As in sound or picture quality. Is there any difference?

Yep...I had written about this problem ~ 8 days ago....not much interest until it happens to you.
Have been without my PS3 for 1.5 weeks so far...and going through the painful Sony repair process...looks like it can go on forever....anyway...I now know what to expect from Sony

Now it refuses to recognize and play any blu-ray discs including PS3 game discs (it does, however, still play regular DVD's).
Upon searching..I see that this was a problem with the earlier 60Gb units...but not so on the latter 80Gb units (until of course...mine).
So after spending 45 min on the phone w/Sony tech to try try and do a fix, to no avail........now I have to go through the whole Sony BS procedure of waiting up to 10 days for an empty return shipping box and then 10 to 14 work days on a turnaround (this whole thing could take up to 6 weeks!).
They claim they will either fix my machine or send a factory certified unit (w/ full 1 yr warranty). There are NO other options

Is anybody familiar with this problem, and/or know a possible alternative solution?
And...does anybody know what I should expect from Sony?

I have this remote and the batteries die in about 2 or 3 days, no matter what I do. I could not even use it and brand new batteries end up dead. Is there a setting somewhere that I'm missing? Maybe I have a defective remote?
You probably have a defective one. I have had mine almost 3 months with no issues on the battery life yet.

Something is wrong with the remote. I am using the same batteries I put in the remote from July 07.

The first fella likely had a crack in the disc that he couldn't spot (happened to me recently), the 2nd guy gave no details and the last feller could've probably deleted the game data from the game data utility folder and had no issues from there. But I'm perfectly content for everybody to just go on assuming PS3s are unreliable.

Good for you...be content.
The first fella had the same error code I got before the PS3 refused to recognize ANY and all BD's then any DVD's (none cracked...all in perfect condition).
The 2nd guy clearly stated that the PS3 refused to play all discs....what other details are needed? It just stopped working!
The last fella clearly stated that the PS3 would not read any other discs...that has nothing to do with the game data utility.
No one is claiming that PS3's are universally unreliable, but just indicating that 4 posters had disc drive/read failures within 8 days. Makes you wonder about the problems the thousands of owners have...that don't post on this thread.

I got the same error and finally took the disc into good lighting and spotted the 1/8th centimeter crack on the very outside of the disc. That seems to be exactly the poster's problem. I'm sure there are tons of people out there having troubles with their PS3s that aren't posting about it and I'm sure it's the disc drive that failed...no other explanation for it.

Seems like it would make you wonder about the millions of owners who don't have problems...that don't post on this thread. Remember that there are over 10 million PS3s out there.

The remote is defective. Battery life is fine on a normal remote.
Either it's defective, or you are putting the batteries in wrong (be sure to check the + signs on the battery enclosure, which I assume you have). On some remotes, it is very easy to get the batteries in in the wrong direction.
