Im getting extreme judder on my blurays via my ps3. 9g pioneer kuro. no other source does this. Im thinking about buying another one to see if it does it.
I notice no judder on mine, are you watching the movie at 1080p24?
If you are, make sure any motion engine in the curio is off. If you aren't try setting the option in the PS3 for 1080p24 and see if that's better.
It was working fine 0n the 1st and then on the 2nd when the update came out it crapped out....There is plenty of ventilation open tv stand and large open livingroom. Not warm at all. I talked to the Sony guys and one of them said they could not dedulge how many people called with the same problem. Ugh more money lol Thanks WhatHappend.
P.S. I am not going to send it away to SONY those %$#^%@ know there are problems why do they not fix them for free like Microsoft and their 360 problems? I had my ps2 for like 6 or 7 years before it crapped out I spent $500 on the PS3 plus another $152 to Videogame911 when apprently the Bluray crapped out after only a year and a few months. Now I have to send it away again for another $152 this is crazy what happened to products you could count on heck my Atari 2600 still works and I got that when I was a kid....Sorry everyone I am just upset at all this wasted money......
any other 60gig ps3 owners out there with problems?

Set the Kuro 9g to ADVANCE for the scaning (that's 72kz for use with 1080p24 sources (you are using a 1080/24p standard BD right and not a 1080i encoded disk right?)
Then set the Kuro resolution to Auto in the pop up tools menu and report back.
I also have a launch 60G (now 320G), it's been running 24/7 since Folding@home came out in March 07 (2230 work units & counting) & I watch a lot of Blu-Ray movies & play a lot of games on it & so far no problems.

Could it be some sort of frame interpolation, where the TV adds frames to supposedly make it "smoother"? I hate this feature on all the new TVs, think it makes everything look like home movies.
Hey guys - I bought a refurb unit from ebay - but they didn't include a warranty - and now a week later, I can't get it to load discs. At first, I couldn't get it to eject, so I did the force eject (hold down eject for 20 sec or so) and it did come out, but since then, I can't get it to load a disk. If I stick a disc in the slot and hold down the eject button, it will take it in and then immediately eject it. Is this a common problem, and if so, do I call sony for repair or is it something I might be able to fix myself?

mine died after installing the recent firmware. I have a disc stuck inside that I can't get out and everytime I power on the machine it just blinks red and nothing else. I've had mine since day one.

Never buy electonics on ebay without a waranty... You are SOL my friend.

Rent a ps3 from family video and swap out the drives. Lol family video deserves it.
I agree. I have totally mistreated my 40 gig and still no problems. Theater room construction dust all over it while using it. Installed and uninstalled linux. Hooked up multiple external hard drives. Bad ventilated area for a year. Used it outside in my garage on cold humid nights with a projector. Probably even dropped it. Oh and I have three kids and their friends putting god knows what into the disk slot. Not one issue yet, knock on wood.
Sorry man, but sounds like you are just out of luck. You can try and call Sony but, without a warranty I doubt they will do much for you. If they offer to fix it, you'll have to pay a few hundred dollars most likely (if not more). This is why I never buy electronics from ebay, and I mean never. Even some that claim to have warranties and really don't or the manufacturer sometimes doesn't honor them.

I have 40GB bought in 11/07, plenty of issues, many unplayable disks.
I was talking to Netflix and Blockbuster reps and was told that they had lots of reports of unplayable disks from PS3 owners.
All firmwares have been installed.

I have a 40GB PS3 (first gen 40Gb that rotate disc on insertion) and the local video store calls me when ever a customer's standalone Bluray player can't play a disc (they want me to test it for them for free). My PS3 has played 100% of all the Netflix, BlockBuster, Purchased, and local video store Bluray titles.
Also have a 80Gb MGS4 edition that as never had a playback issue (that unit mostly plays PS3 and PS2 games.)
whathappened, Netflix started putting on white labels at the center of BD disks this year. All of new released from NF with white labels at the center are unplayable in my 40Gb. Have you tried those white labeled new BD releases? I think 40GB has problems with those NF disks.

I can't answer about Netflix 2009 Bluray rentals.
This year, I have been using BlockBuster Online and local video store for Bluray rentals (The local video store had Bluray rentals for $1 from Nov08-Mar09.)
PS3 has played the DVDs with white stickers on the inner ring just fine (from Redbox), and Netflix DVDs over the last month just fine (do the DVDs from Netflix have the sticker?).
I have had my 40 gig PS3 for the better part of a year and it has been flawless. I was so enthused about mine that I bought my grandson an 80 gig model about 3 months ago. Both have received heavy use and have performed flawlessly. Our experience with the PS3s has been a refreshing change to my grandson's miseries with his old Xbox 360. which was both noisy and unreliable.
Mechanical devices can and do fail, of course, but the high opinion I hold for the PS3s I have bought seems to reflect the overwhelming consensus here.
My 40 gig PS3 worked fine for 11 months. Suddenly it was hard to get it to read any disc. I upgraded to 2.07 to see if that would help. Then it would not read any disc but I do not think the software upgrade was the cause. The problem was already there before the upgrade. I contacted Sony and they sent me a box. Today I sent the PS3 off for free warranty repair.
This model Panny, and all of the PZ80u and PZ85u series Pannys, accept 1080/24 but can only show 1080p/60.
So I have two choices:
1)Set the PS3 to output 1080/24 and have the Panny convert it to 1060/60
2)Set the PS3 to output 1080/60 and have the Panny do nothing.
I used to have the PS3 output 1080/24, but I noticed that when the Panny displays 1080/60, there is some noticeable judder.
But when I set the PS3 to output 1080/60, there is much less judder.
So in other words, the PS3 does a better job of turning 24fps into 60fps than the Panny.
I'm betting the PS3 does a better job than almost all displays. So if you have a Plasma, or if you have a LCD HDTV that is NOT 120hz. Just set the PS3 to output 1080p/60.

WOW, two PS3s less than a year old and they BOTH still work flawlessly, good for you!!
And the "overwhelming consensus" is that we are SO happy with such great record.
But seriously, gwsat, can you share more insight than simply keep saying "mine works great" all the time?
I am trying to understand the instances where SOME disks fail in SOME PS3s, and what are the early warning signs, so that people can benefit from such experiences and be proactive in getting their PS3s fixed BEFORE the end of the warrantty.

Based only on following the threads, there are very few instances where "SOME disks fail in SOME PS3s" unless the PS3 is behind on its firmware. That is not a symptom of drive failure.
Drive failures appear to be typified by a rapidly-developing failure to play all disks, whether BD or DVD or CD.
Most other problems with the PS3 can be fixed via the recovery menu.
Again, this is my take from following the threads over the past year.
Which threads are you referring to?
The firmwares are up to date. By talking to the NF reps, (four of them over the last two months) I was told by all of them that "Some players not playing SOME disks" is pretty common.
I can state that for my 40GB once there is a NF label in the middle of the BD disk the laser just won't recogonize the disk. Nothing happens after the disk is inserted.
I would like to hear someone with 40GB say that white labeled NF disks can play in PS3. Yes there are TWO kinds of NF BD disks, one without label and one with label. Most new ones come with label installed, but they all can be played in the newer PS3 80GB models, but NOT the 40GB.
