One-and-Only PS3 as Blu-Ray Player Thread - Page 1009

It doesn't happen when I watch Speed Racer but it does when watching Interview with the Vampire and Iron Man 2. I've seen people with this problem on the this forums and others but still no fix came from them that helped me.

So far I've checked my PS3 to make sure that the RGB is limited (should this even matter since I'm outputing it in Y/Cr/etc. ?), Y/Cr/etc. super white is on, and that Y/Cr/etc. is on in the BD output settings. I've also checked on my Samsung T240HD that dynamic lighting setting is off as well as power saver.

I'm running a HDMI 1.3a cable from my PS3 to screen. I watch movies that are 1080p quality all the time on the same screen on my comp. So that leads me to believe that either the HDMI controller is bad, bad HDMI, bad firmwire (can't find any to update my monitor anyway), or bad playback settings on the PS3.

Any help would be appreciated.

P.S. Wasn't sure where to put this thread so I took a shot in the dark.

OK all you PS3 guru's out there. I could use some assistance if you don't mind. I have a fat PS3, 60GB (actually it now has a 320 GB HDD). I was trying to get my laptop to talk to the PS3 and never had any luck. I just recently found a program called PS3 Media Server that works great. The PS3 now recognizes everything on my laptop.

Here is my issue. I am using the PS3 with 3D and have run my HDMI to a Mitz 3D adapter and the audio is going to my Onkyo Receiver (only HDMI 1.3) via the optical cable. I transferred all my music from the Laptop to the PS3. I would like to listen to the music in Zone 2, but the only way the Onkyo will allow that to happen (as it won't convert digital to analog audio) is if I also have an analog (R/L Stereo RCA) cables plugged into the same input as the PS3. Can I use the Optical and Composite Video / Analog audio at the same time if I don't plug in the Composite video cable?

Apparently setting the output to RGB on Full, as well as turning deep colors on helped but didn't completely remove the adjusting. I will try out limited and see how that goes.

I just picked up a new Sony 55HX800 with a PS3 Slim, and I'm having trouble with audio playback or lip sync. Originally I had the PS3 and TV in my theater with a Denon AVR, but I had to set about a 150ms delay to get it to look right. Now I have them in my living room through a Sony HT-CT350 soundbar, and am having same issues. I CT350 doesn't have any delay adjustments, and when I watch BD movies, I notice varying delay between the audio tacks. This is very frustrating and I'm about one movie away from returning the entire setup. Is this a known issue? If I connect everything throughout the TV and use ARC for the soundbar could that possibly fix it?
Big delays like that often result from connecting video directly to the TV and audio to the receiver, with one being analog and one being digital. Because the two signals are separated from each other, with different (or no) processing applied to one of them, a delay is introduced.

How is your system connected?
I have my PS3 and cable box are connected through the CT350 via HDMI. I did notice that when watching TV the audio appeared to be good unless the program included Dolby surround (HBO Movies).

Sometimes you can skip stuff by pressing the 'triangle' button to bring up the menu screen - select "main menu" from that on-screen menu.

The CT350 is the source of the delay problem then. Returning everything is overkill. What you need is a processor that's either not so slow (that it delays the audio) or a processor that has adjustable delay for each input. You may have to spend a little more to get an AVR with delay settings that are independent for each input so you can have different delays for cable/satellite and Blu-ray.

Try connecting the worst-case combination directly to the TV to see if the audio/lip sync issue is still there. If it is better or gone, that means the CT350 is causing the problem.

I have just made up my mind to upgrade to a PS3 Move bundle over my 1st generation Panny BD player.

After much research I believe this is the BEST value for my money since I will also be upgrading to 3D soon.

Question: Does this 320G PS3 come with Wifi built in or do I have to purchase?

If so, what do you recommend?

King_David,
PS3 has built in wifi no need for adapter.

Good decision. Wifi is built-in in ps3.
Only one complaint that I have. No more Linux (other OS) after FW 3.21

Just in case this is a on-in-a-million chance you are buying used, the launch 20GB units did not have wi-fi.

He stated "I have just made up my mind to upgrade to a PS3 Move bundle", I don't think that will be an issue.

PS3 Slim 320 Motion launch unit.

I am going insane, but my unit has started this long pause and freeze, and stutter in the main menu, Netflix, Playstation Store. The pauses are so long, that Netflix is nearly unusable, and just navigating around is painful. When powered on the spinning disc, spin for about 2-3 minutes before the bar loads.

No accessories are plugged in. Movie playback works great, but everything else is stinky. Appreciate the advice before I call for repairs.

Slightly OT..., but have any of you folks had issues NOT receiving NetFlix Streaming after they switched from the DVD to downloaded file?

My NetFlix DVD for streaming worked great..., but ever since they made the change I cannot access the movies... it just keeps spinning between contacting Netflix and downloading Titles.......

1+ flawless here also. FWIW my PS3 is connected to my router using an Ethernet cable not via WiFi. I have an older 80Gig "Fat" model.
Thanks for the response guys... it must be something in my router setup then...

I have tried both wired and wireless and neither time will it connect... well it does connect to check my email address and password (i intentionally put in the wrong one to see if it was making contact...which it is), but after that will not connect to the movie server. I called NetFlix and they confirmed that the movie server and password servers were different units... so something in my router setup must be prohibiting it from connecting.... just strange that it worked perfectly with the disk, but now will not work with the downloaded file.

Oh I have the second gen. 40gig unit.

My 320G Move Bundle box says: 3D World created by Sony

Does this mean I don't have to do the 3D upgrade?

I got my son a PS 3 for Xmass. his Tv in his room is a non HD tv. he used the cable that came with the PS 3 Red yellow and white on his tv. so today I hooked it up to my HD TV with a HDMI cable and when I first turend it on it said something about switching to HDMI my son clicked ok before I red what it said. now when I went to hook it back up in his room with the RCA cable that came with the PS3 it would not work. so I hooked it back up the HD tv and went through the settings but still would not work after a few hrs of this I just hit reset and now it works on his Tv with the Rca cables.

so my qustion is what is the setting do you use HDMI and the RCA cables I think I will get him a set of componet cables later for his Tv

Thanks Tim

A quick question:
how do I remove users from the sign in list?
I have a few people listed there that no longer will be using my PS3.
ETA: Never mind, I found the answer at another site.

New PS3 owners, if you want to use your existing IR universal remote, this is one of the best (IMHO) possible solutions for the price you pay. It does have its limitations (e.g. Power on/off not possible), but it works for the basic blu-ray paying functions.

I am using this with URC200

Also, FYI, the PS3 supports control over HDMI CEC including on/off control. I am able to control the PS3 through my Onkyo 3007 with discrete commands. This makes it much easier than the add-on IR to BT converters.

that post got my attention... tell me more... how did you implement this?

I have been using this blu-link universal remote to control all my A/V equipment including my PS3. I use the PS3 for my 3D Blu-ray player and it works great. It's both bluetooth and IR so it works for everything.

I've had it for a few months and have it setup to everything with all the commands I need. it can even learn commands from existing remotes if it doesn't have one you need.

here is the link to Best buy. blu-link Unversal Remote

In the PS3 menu, turn on HDMI control or something like that in the system settings menu. In my receiver settings I turn network control on and RIHD, which is the name that Onkyo uses for HDMI CEC. This is a standard that a lot of manufacturers use that was part of HDMI 1.3. I can then use my remote to control everything. My receiver also turns my tv off thru the HDMI connection. Even better is an app that I use with the iPhone called ORemote, which connects to my Onkyo through my wifi network. With this I can control everything from anywhere in my house. Especially useful for 2nd zone control for whole house audio.

yea, i have a good understanding of hdmi-cec... and i know you can pass information with it...

i have a marantz... when i enable hdmi control on both the pre-pro and the ps3, it will turn the ps3 off when switching off the ps3 input (as expected), but not on when i switch to the ps3 input... and i cannot control the ps3 via the pre-pro...

did you have to set up the onkyo remote in any way? i.e. tell it the device code for the ps3?

Ah. This is good to know. My Denon 1909 says it is CEC compatible.
So R&D time for aaranddeeman..
Thanks
