I have a PS3 phat hooked into a SR805 AVR. No issues here. Everything is (very) loud and clear....

Do any other unit suffer the same fate? Are all the speakers working (testable by white noise from the AVR)? Is the PS3 set to output audio down the HDMU cable? Have you tired different cables? Is the 708 set up for the right HDMI channel for the PS3? Are you trying to shove audio into the 708 on component as well as the HDMI? Did you do factory resets on both (and the reset required afterwards)?

Give us an idea of what you've done, so we can get to the nub of the issue....

Sorry for the misunderstanding, and when it comes to bit streaming the same rule applies but the slim can bitstream where as the fat can not, the slim has a different HDMI chip. In 2D the slim can decode all lossless formats and bitstream them with no issues. Sony is expected to implement a FW upgrade that will have DD lossless work while watching 3D. Hopefully soon.

Recently in this thread I reported that I could not get TrueHD from the 3D version of Kung Fu Panda 2 while bitstreaming. However even when I change to Linear PCM the status bar area of the PS3 still says Dolby Digital. So it seems that TrueHD is not supported with 3D titles in either bitstreaming OR LPCM. Anyone else find this to be the case too? TrueHD on non-3D titles works for me fine with bitstreaming or LPCM.

Go to Settings in the XMB, then Sound, then Audio Output. Follow the prompts to set the audio output. I had the same problem when moving the playstation between rooms. It normally is connected to my Onkyo 706 but when I connect it straight to a tv, I always have to rerun the audio setup to get the correct sound channels.

sorry new here.
just installed a ps3 into the system. I cant figure out navigation with the controller, would it be easier with a remote?

Are you talking specifically for movies? Once you get used to it the controller will be second nature. I have never felt the need to have a separate BT controller, but my Wife would sure prefer one when she and the kids are trying to watch a bluray.

It is much simpler with the SONY Bluray remote unless you are a gamer. The normal controllers are weird to hold and you pretty much need two hands to operate.

If you use a harmony remote, get the Logitech harmony IR to BT adapter to use a single remote for your whole system.

Are you running it through a receiver? Specifically an Onkyo? If so check out ORemote for your iOS devices. It will control the ps3 through hdmi cec which you have to enable on the receiver. Just a thought.

I just played The Nightmare Before Christmas in 3D last night on a new PS3. The sound was in 5.1. Will a PS3 play a 3D Blu Ray in7.1. If so, is there some setting I need to change?

The PS3 doesn't support Dolby TrueHD 7.1 in 3D mode. It does support DTS-MA 7.1, so buy movies in that codec.

I have a Slim. Is this a hardware or software limitation? Are we likely to see a fix?

We are lucky the PS3 does 3D at all. The Hardware was designed pre-HDMI 1.4. It is amazing SONY has been able to add 3D and then add DTS MA with 3D with the last Firmware update.

Very few 3D titles have 7.1 TRUEHD tracks, so this is really not much of a concern. But since SONY was able to add DTS MA 7.1, they should be able to make TRUE HD 7.1 work with 3D in the future if they have enough incentive to do so.

Was it the 4.0 firmware where they first added DTA MA for 3D playback? If so then maybe we can be hopeful that they were just getting that one out first since it is most popular and working on TrueHD next... ?

Is a PS3 capable of downloading/playing bluray movies from NetFlix or will the PS3's "G" network interface limit it to download regular DVDs?

Is this really the only PS3 thread on AVS?

Thanks

The PS3 is a great Netflix HD movie player. It was the only Netfix player capable of DD5.1 audio. (Might still be the only DD5.1 capable Netfilx device.)

The PS3 has a 1Gig Ethernet jack, so is not limited by wireless G speeds. You can buy wire-less N network bridge to connect to the PS3 if you want.

Wireless G is more than capable to handle any streaming that Netfilx has available assuming you don't have slow wireless B devices sharing the network or other wireless G devices stealing all the bandwidth.
That's good to know the PS3 will do the job wired.
I wouldn't try to net streaming movies over wifi, as you may be encroaching on copyright laws...

sadly some features are best left to the wired domain... how great netflicks works will greatly depend on your network setup and internet speed...
There are probably millions of wireless devices out there capable of receiving NetFlix. Why would NetFlix permit/encourage manufactures of wireless devices to add the NetFlix app to wireless devices?

Hi I am new!

1. I would like to clarify what hardware I need to do PC to PS3 streaming.

I have:
Router in room 1
wired PC in room 2
PS3 in room 3 (not yet but planning to get)

If the PC is already wired, do I still need network adapter on it for PS3 to communicate to it? Or I am already set (just need PS3 media server)?

2. Can I transfer files from PS3 back to PC (that way I can use PS3 as a back up for PC stuff)? I went to youtube and all I see are PC to PS3 transfers, not the other way round. Not sure is it because it is too obvious or it is just not possible.

Thanks

No. It was in 3.70, released on August 9, 2011.

1. It depends if the PC is wired to the router. Where is the modem for the router or is it a combination modem/router? Or, put another way, how is the PC connected to the internet---through the router or does the PC have a modem by itself? If so, how is the router connected to the internet and what purpose does it serve? The usual way of connecting routers is: internet line in to modem, then ethernet cable to router, then ethernet cable from router to PC---or wireless connection from PC to router if the PC has wireless capability. If it is the latter, then you are ready to connect the PS3 either wired or wirelessly to the router and authorizing media sharing on the PC so the PS3 can communicate and share files with the PC. The PS3 has a built in media server search function, so you won't need anything else. It will find your PC through the router if the PC is connected to it and you authorize sharing on the PC.

2. The media connection function built into the PS3 is one way only---you can't send data back and forth---only from a PC to PS3 as far as I know--

1. It is cable -> modem -> router -> wired to pc like the first one you describe. So I still need to get a network adapter for the PC to make the PS3 connect wirelessly to PC?

2. Oh. So the data in PS3 harddisk is totally useless outside PS3 even if I remove the harddisk and plug it to PC? Also once the data is inside PS3 there is no way to back up that data?

if you had a linux pc you could do it, whether it be wired or wireless I have yet to find a way to sync media center component to a ps3 and/or visa-versa on a window machine...

I'm not saying it can't be done, though it will be a bitch to setup for a novice user..

as for g/n wireless not sure on 5ghz the on ps3 the 2.4ghz g/n it is possible for wifi ...

Not true for me. I have a Windows based system, and my PS3 media center syncs just fine through my Linksys wireless G router and I am able to access all of my videos, photos and music files. They must, however, be located in the Window Media Player on your PC----
