Say what?
A disc is a disc, as long as it's not been abused.
Yeah, it's the same DVDs and Blu-Rays you'd buy at a store.

Sort of. Many of the newer discs are pressed specifically for Netflix. They're thicker to be more durable. The content is the same, though.

dude that was one funny question!

I haven't seen this thread quiet for this long.

Agreed, so let me voice a complaint.
I returned my latest disc to BB in-store on Saturday and have yet to see my next disc mailed out.
Had hoped to have had one of this weeks new releases shipped on Monday, but no, not even Tuesday.

On another note, I noticed last week that one of the BB stores near where I work has cleared out their in-store inventory of HD-DVDs.

I had the opposite experience with Netflix. Yesterday, I mailed out two envelopes addressed to Albany. They had been checked in this morning when I logged onto the site. So, I can only think the PO actually did send it to the "Nearest Netflix Center" instead of Albany - since that would have taken an extra day.

I have been pleasantly surprised with netflix. We kind of live out in the middle of no where, but still we usually get a new movie within 2 days. Very nice.

We do as well and so far the longest wait for any DVD from Netflix has been 3 days. We've been members for 4 years. This month we've started receiving the BD rentals and they're just as quick (normally 2 days).

Anyone know what happened to Netflix? No emails from them and the web site is down all day long. Did they get hacked or something?

It's a bit of a mystery:

It's their newest ploy to prevent people from actually renting DVDs. Seems odd though, that it would take out their email too. Even a complete database meltdown could be restored in an hour or less.

Looks like new NF software went up. Where's the indication of whether the disc in queue is BD or SD?

I called them about it yesterday and said they are working on that.

^^^ thanks for the info. I did get a mail message saying I got a small credit because of the system outage on Monday or whenever it was. I didn't notice the new software till today.

Since they sent me DVD to replace one they received that day, it didn't affect me renting at all. Honestly, I didn't even know the site was down since I didn't bother checking.

Now, had I gone on to add a DVD to my queue, then I might have noticed. However, I would have just come back later.

What??? Come back later??? You mean that actually is an option.

You'd think Netflix was showing game 7 of the world series when the site went down.

Returned a disc to BB in-store this past Sunday, it's now Thursday and they have yet to mail out the next disc. That's more than three business days delay.
Anyone else getting this, or is it just me being discriminated against?
They hate you. That's all.

Could just be a delay, or glitch with the system at the BB you checked it in at.
Do you get emails, or can you check on BB online, to see if the disc was checked in at the store? I can exchange on a Saturday or Sunday, get an email or see it on the site that it's been checked in at the store, and a new one is shipped out Monday.

Yes, it was marked "returned in store, next disc will ship shortly" as usual.
And the next disc will usually go out on Monday, but not this time.

I turned two into my local BB Saturday night and had 2 new ones (There-Blood, Lions4 Lambs) shipped Monday..Shocked me to say the leaast.

with the BB plans, are in store exchanges for blu-rays allowed?, is there an extra fee for doing that?

Yes, it's one of the big perks of BB.

Nope.

I had been enjoying in-store exchanges of HD-DVD discs, and had enjoyed this as recently as the date American Gangster was released.
Now that the BB stores have eliminated their inventory of HD-DVD titles, I'll be switching over to BR once the next generation of players comes out.
too bad the BB in my town doesn't carry blu-ray (according to blockbuster.com store locater), do you think all stores will carry them soon? I'm debating whether I should go with netflix of BB. The in store exchanges would be a huge bonus for BB, but not if i can't get blu-ray.

As you can see, I am also on L.I.
There is only one store out of the many I've been to on L.I. that doesn't carry BR and that's the Hicksville store.
well i haven't actually checked the store, but the chart on BB website doesn't have the blu-ray icon next to the Commack store, i guess it's probably wrong. I'll have to check the next time I'm there, I don't have a blu-ray player yet, thats why I hadn't noticed, but i will be getting one soon.

Anyone noticed the Browse Instant (watch now) NF software had an update? Shows in widescreen if shot in widescreen now.
I checked, they do carry "some" blu-rays, about one shelf
post #1530 of 3040
They should expand it soon.

The Hollywood Video near me (I know, not the same company, but it's in the same business) didn't have either HD format for a long time, then bam, it had a small section for each. Then when HD-DVD was dropped, the Blu-Ray section expanded into it, effectively doubling it with new titles.

Might ask them if they'll get more in. That often prompts them to order more if people start demanding it.
