Am I the only person that was pleasantly surprised by Fright Night? And when I say pleasantly surprised I mean I didn't hate it.

Looks like it's getting worse.

Anyone knows if NF has Sons of Anarchy S3 available for streaming? Thx.
Yes, they do. But this is more the disc thread than streaming.

The local Blockbuster is shutting down, so they lit their sign appropriately. I just couldn't resist snapping a pic and sharing.

Attachment 235282

They're selling Blu-rays in sleeves @ 5 for $7.50!

wow!

my netflix disc queue has finally run out. I have two discs upcoming in Feb, and the rest (61) are saved.

Might be time to cut to one at a time.
Netflix does make it easy to jump up and down on the plans. Unlike Blockbuster, as I found out a couple of months ago.

LOL. I am 6 discs away from being under 200 in my disc queue for the first time ever! See, it's all about setting goals...then sitting on the couch watching movies every night until you meet those goals

I just broke into the 40's in my instant queue the other day (sitting at 48 right now).

haha, I have 37 instant, but a couple of those are TV series (BSG watching now)

I got all the AFI top 100 movies done or time-shifted, all the newest movies worth anything in the past few years, and most other classics. I've run out of familiar movies that I have not seen (and I rarely watch a movie twice).

btw, since Sept I still have not "agreed" to the new TOS, lol:

Anyone else notice that Redbox dropped their $1 for the first night if the reservation was made online? Now it's $1.20, same as walking up and renting.

Redbox agrees to buy NCR/Blockbuster

This doesn't surprise me. I cancelled my BB subscription last month and decided not to go back to NF. Ever since, I have been renting newly released BDs I want to see at one of the large number of Redbox kiosks that are near me. For example, I put the Killer Elite BD on reserve this morning at a kiosk located in a strip mall that is only 3 minutes away from me. I have rented a couple of other discs in the same way recently. At $1.63 a pop, it's well worth the money and I enjoy my new found ability to be so selective.

I still use the 1 disc out NF plan and have been averaging 2 BD's a week .. supplement that with a RB rental once and a while and our needs on movies are in fine shape .. the heck with the 28 / 56 day window ..

I hear you. If I start to feel that I can't get enough desirable films on BD from Redbox to satisfy me, the next step will be to re-up with NF on a one disc at a time plan.

In my area / St Louis / for some reason RB does not do a very good job stocking BD's .. I guess they figure us Midwesterners are a bunch of rubes that don't own a BD player .. .. thus, I keep the NF account ..

It's true that we, the great unwashed in Flyover Country, don't get much love. I don't like how many BDs Redbox passes over, either, but so far at least, they've had enough of them to satisfy my needs.

Big releases they do OK with, the problem is they only stock a few copies .. and since the last remaining B&M gets about $4.50 a pop for a BD, the RB BD's rent out consistently .. thus, you have to snap them up quickly when they are available ..

As well, many, many BD's that NF does stock at new release, RB does not .. example this week would be "Take Shelter" .. an excellent, yet overlooked film ..

Not to troll, but aren't you the same person who canceled Netflix in disgust because they didn't stock Red Shoes and some other catalog titles? I am just surprised to hear you are satisfied with Redbox's even worse selection.

Was hoping that would ship yesterday, but got Rum Diaries instead. Oh well.

I used Redbox just like you do...to supplement Netflix. Their BD selection (and overall disc selection) is a joke though, at least around here. But I do use them occasionally for a disc here and there and usually will take advantage of the free codes they send me a couple times each month.

I really hate having to return the discs though. I just got nailed with another day's rental fee yesterday for some crappy straight-to-dvd movie my kid wanted to watch and I forgot we had. 11:30 at night and my wife is like "did you return that movie?".....Grrrr....

Yes, I am irresponsible

Me and the wife to the T .. except no kids left at home ..

I'm on the fence on "Rum Diaries" .. have not put it in the Q yet .. Depp is great, I've read everything Hunter Thompson has written and Depp can channel his buddy well .. the trailers just did not do it for me ..

Curious about your take after you watch it ..
Yeah, I'm iffy on it too, but will let you know what I think.

I watched it last night. It was ok. I'd have a hard time recommending it.

Honestly though, I was multitasking since something was going on with a server at the office so I was troubleshooting that, so I wasn't giving the movie my full attention. So take my opinion with a grain of salt. I mailed it back this morning, but I'm sort of wishing I'd have held onto it and given it another watch without being distracted.

I was just told that the last blockbuster within reasonable driving distance from my home is closing down this weekend. So this finally seals the deal for me. I am just going to scale down from a three-discs-at-a-time to a one-disc-at-a-time plan on Netflix or BBOnline.

my last 2 bd rentals from redbox were flawed. bd dragon tattoo turned out to be a dvd.

last night rented tinker tailor and it wouldn't play.

customer service is great and they gave me 3 free rentals each time for my troubles, but if this continues i'm back to nf

seems they have some quality control issues with their bd discs.

Unplayable disks are generally the fault of the previous renter, not QC by the vendor .. as well, It would be impossible for any vendor to check each and every disk for playability each time it was rented .. and 3 free rentals is pretty generous .. NF might give you one extra disk out of your Q ..

Next time I see the guy stocking a nearby Redbox I'm going to ask him if they stock by demographic. Because some kiosks seem to get some movies while and not others. Some get BD while others don't.

I think it would depend on the area. It'd be pointless to stock by demographic here as there are so many kiosks that discs get swapped around pretty fast. I picked up two from a 7-11 about half a mile from my place, then returned them to the WalMart four miles away, just because of my errands that day. And the day before I returned disks to two other locations, depending on where the movies I wanted were located at that time. And I think I'm typical of people here.

I've actually caught the stocker in the act .. her reply "I just put in what they tell me to .. "

I've also called RB a couple times complaining about the inconsistency and especially the lack of BD at times .. the reply each time "I understand and I am going to notify the higher ups .. I'd like to give you 2 free rental codes for your trouble .. "

Nothing has changed yet in my area .. I'm not complaining, really .. RB is still the best BD value around here when they have it in stock ..
