Pls help identify problem with toshiba 50H71

Thread Starter
Hi,
My toshiba 50H71's red lamp is totally distorted. Please see attached for actual pictures.

The blue and green appeared to be OK.

I managed to get to the lamp and adjusted deflection yoke, convergence yoke, centering magnet, screen VR, focus VR, 9 pt convergence, grid convergence. All these adjustments have absolutely no effect on the distortion.

Adjusting PARA parameter make very small change, but that applied to blue and green too.

Any idea on what's wrong with it? A service technician house call cost $100 to start, with no gurantee of identifying or fixing the problem. The TV itself probably worth $300 if fully functional. I am ready to throw it out if it not something that can DIY.

Thanks!

There may be a more advanced convergence in the service menu. But that symptom looks like the DCU has failed, maybe the Convergenc IC's. The tech will have to replace and then fully re-converge. Might be around ~$300.

How did you fix the problem!

I am having the exact same problem. All the sites are saying the same thing, convergence, $400-600 repair. Below are some clues i picked up:

maybe DCU has failed, maybe the Convergence IC's
convergence integrated circuits STK392-110

Also - Pull the convergence yoke connector and check the yoke's grounding
resistors resistor value : should be 1.8 ohm 1 watt.

All the adjustments below have no effect on the distortion:

deflection yoke, convergence yoke, centering magnet, screen VR, focus VR, 9 pt convergence, grid convergence do not help. PARA parameter makes very small change, but that applied to blue and green too.

Let me know if you get this fixed. I am just starting to look for a tech. Or mayb eI coudl do it myself?

What did you do to fix this.My set just started doing this.

The attachments describe my problem also.
Can some one provide pics of the interior with the items labeled that are required to be replaced?
Or a schematic would be great.
Or would it be a great time to go to a LCD or a DLP TV?

Please help
Thanks

Google "stk392". Toshiba convergence IC repair is a bear, can't recommend DIY.

Can someone help? I have a Toshiba # 57h93 rear projection. My pictures are red with red horizontal lines going through. I'm thinking it's the STK932 convergence IC also, but not 100%. Just read that toshiba Convergence is a tough one to replace. Can someone help me with a little more detail in replacing this item? Thanks for your help in advance.
