MOST EXCELLENT news on BRD

-- no ANALOG HOLE FILLING down rezing

-- IMPRESSIVE SOUND

Looks like I might not "wait and see" as long as I had thought.

AND it looks like the AUDIO improvements maybe the tipping point

That said; TWO THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND

1 - OAR - ORIGINAL ASPECT RATIO for 2.39 FILMS

Yes, this is The Cap'n's broken record . . . . as there has been ZERO
word from the studios on this . . . unless I am mistaken.

The news keeps getting better but let's not forget about letting the studios know about supporting OAR.

2 - SONY's 4K PROJECTOR DEMO

I would LOVE to see this . . . I am sure it is impressive.
14 Ft/lamberts over 23 feet YIKES

That said; I would bet big money that the DVD side of the screen was
480 P.

I would guess that the comparison would be closer if the DVD source
were SDI at 960 P thru a Terranex quadrupler.

My point?

Properly upscaled 480 I DVD's are still extremely viable . . . . so
the NEW formats will need to be REALLY better, cheaper, more convenient
AND more respectful of us, the buying public,
in order to succeed.

Still and all, the news keeps getting better.

I be getting excited again . . . . .

I agree 100%. :)

Most dvds of recently filmed movies look terrific in general (good equipment has alot to do with this, ie: upscaling to a DTV)
Better than HDTV?
No, however I have seen some "HD" films or programs that were hardly inspiring (comcast cable, D*, etc.) and caused me to break out the dvd version instead...
Although I own >1200 dvds, plan on renting BR and DVD until there is a format winner. ;)

Looks to me like the vast majority(those without an hdcp hdmi hdtv display) will be going for Blu Ray if either ;)
