I have some 4:2:2 recordings as well. Blu-ray isn't 10 bit either, btw.

Your comparing a network feed to a movie. and H.264 and VC-1 are different ( your showing VC-1)\\ VC-1 does 4:2:0 while H.264 supports 4:4:4, also the partion sizes, bit stream formats,de-blocking filter, and interpolation methods are different.

It is about the encoder,format,sampling,quantization,etc.

Now you're just grasping at straws. Like all those more advanced settings that go "beyond the bitrate" are standardized amongst every Blu-ray encode. Blu-rays vary wildly over the minute details and the only way one can say something is of typical "Blu-ray quality" is if it has a high bitrate and looks crystal clear with no macroblocking. No American MPEG-2 HDTV channel fits that definition aside from the select few high bitrate satellite feeds.

There's still plenty of Blu-rays which don't fit the definition of "high bitrate with no macroblocking." That number is not the majority though so we can't really define Blu-ray quality by what the half-assed releases go by.

Blue Ray is not all about the bit-rate, There are Blue-Rays in MPEG-2,AVC-1,and AVC.264.Bit rate here applies to the format. It is about the quality of the encoder and format. This goes for the orginator and receiver.

All you TWC customers who are not happy about not seeing Thurs night NFL football-- please email Melinda Witmer (melinda.witmer@twcable.com) and demand that they add the NFLN/RZ.

Apparently the NFL is attempting to put pressure on TWC (NY customers) via some commercials re: tonights game.

http://www.nypost.com/p/news/busines...vb5VS7bizhIGaL

Don't know about you, but I would think they'd be able to absorb about $.50 per sub ... considering the 10% rate increase we'll all see in January.
I don't care if you spam them with a million e-mails. They don't care about what you think. Time Warner will add the NFL Network when they get good and ready. You're just wasting your time. I recommend taking up a more productive hobby.

Why would I want the NFL Network at home?

It gives me an excuse to have a Thursday night out for beer and wings with the boys. If I had NFLN at home, ball and chain would say, "Stay home."

Keep it off my cable system please....

Cheers!

Speaking of AMC HD, I've been told some providers, like Comcast, get it via fiber, not satellite.

Not sure if this means they could get a higher bit rate.

AndyHDTV,

A few things you missed.

Discovery Kids HD is now The Hub HD
Wedding Central HD is no more as the channel went under due to a lack of carriage.

Anyone want to see the Harbaugh boys (Ravens v. 49ers) duke it out on Thanksgiving night-- exclusively on the NFL Network? Well, let's let TWC know how we feel. After all, aren't we told that we should contact our provider if we want certain channels?

Well fortunately that won't be a problem for me since I'll be at my parents house Thursday night for Thanksgiving dinner in which they have DirecTV. And ok top of that I'm installing a Slingbox tomorrow at my friend's house who has DirecTV.

Nope! I'll be watching A Very Gaga Thanksgiving on ABC. A channel which Time Warner carries.

Since you have now posted this a second time, I am moved to email both of them to pass along I am not interested in paying higher monthly cable fees so you can watch football.

So you just want higher fees and not the NFL because that is the alternative. Your rates are already going up with TWC. Adding the NFL wouldn't make them go up anymore.

The more content/channels carried, the more the cost to the cable/sat provider.
The more the cost, the higher the rates.

Rates might not go up immediately, but when they do, having the NFL will cause them to go up to an even higher rate.

I personally get enough pro football on Sunday and Monday.
