The Channel Provides New Cross-Platform Advertising Opportunities for Brands with Curated Content from Healthy Lifestyle Experts Cooking Light and Gaiam TV

NEW YORK, Apr 30, 2012 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Time Warner Cable today announced the launch of Health on Demand, providing 24 hour access to healthy lifestyle content to its Digital Cable customers. This new offering will provide marketers with access to a geographically targeted audience of engaged, hand-raising health content seekers. Health on Demand provides advertisers with the ability to promote their content with two healthy lifestyle partners, Cooking Light, the only epicurean brand positioned at the intersection of great-tasting food and healthfulness, and Gaiam TV, a streaming video subscription service that includes exclusive yoga, Pilates and fitness classes. Local health care providers will also be able to feature patient education videos on the new channel.

"We're always looking to provide our customers with the opportunity to explore and find new offerings from local advertisers while enabling advertisers to reach their key audiences," said Joan Hogan Gillman, President, Time Warner Cable Media. "Health on Demand will create a robust destination for anyone seeking tips and recipes for a healthy lifestyle while allowing advertisers to engage with self-selected heath content seekers and maintaining 100% share of voice with a responsive television audience."

Cooking Light segments will feature recipe makeovers and tips for making healthful food choices. Cooking Light videos available at the launch include Healthy Salads, Kids' Snacks, Get Your Fiber, Cast-Iron Burgers and Key Lime Pie, among others.

"We're excited to partner with Time Warner Cable into this new digital platform because we have great step-by-step video instruction for healthy cooking, and cooking is really the ultimate on-demand activity," said Cooking Light Editor, Scott Mowbray. "People cook daily and need inspiration daily--at the time they're trying to figure out what to make for dinner. The Health on Demand channel is the perfect solution."

Gaiam TV segments will feature videos on exercise and stress reduction, including Cardio Weight Loss, Pilates Energy, Daily Yoga and Buff Moms, among others.

"We are excited to introduce Gaiam TV to the Time Warner Cable Health on Demand audience," said Patricia Karpas, Gaiam TV's Digital Strategy Officer. "Gaiam TV.com offers its subscribers unlimited online access to award-winning workout, yoga and wellness videos, plus inspirational films and personal growth videos. We're thrilled to provide a hand-selected sampling of our videos to Time Warner Cable."

On the new channel, health and lifestyle advertisers can use long-form content to engage viewers who are prime prospects for their products and services. Customers can also target their message in the category in which it will resonate most -- Cooking Light, Get Fit or My Local Health. Time Warner Cable Media will provide detailed metrics and insights to track viewership and engagement for each campaign, and overall marketing support will focus on raising year round consumer awareness with customized, multi-platform campaigns.

Additionally, advertisers will be able to leverage Time Warner Cable Media's full suite of offerings to cross-promote their long-form content on Health on Demand by leveraging Enhanced iTV, where available, as well as their online and broadcast campaigns.

Many advertisers have already found success using Time Warner Cable's Video on Demand platform, including SummaCare, a provider-owned health insurance company that reaches 18 counties in the Cleveland, Akron and Canton, Ohio market with its Medicare Advantage plans. During the 2011 Medicare Open Enrollment window, SummaCare ran a ten week My Life on Demand campaign providing viewers access to a free Medicare education video. The insurer quickly noticed the value in being able to engage hundreds of their target consumers, and as a result, they signed on for a new campaign that will launch next week, this time on Health on Demand.

"One of the things that impressed us most about our first On Demand campaign with Time Warner Cable was that the cost per view was so effective," said Tracie Kinaitis, Director of Marketing, SummaCare. "We're now looking forward to the opportunity to advertise on Health on Demand, as we hope to reach even more of our target audience."

The debut of Health on Demand follows the successful re-launch of previously existing ad supported Video on Demand channels, including Travel on Demand and Find It on Demand, which saw a 285% and a 75% increase in monthly viewership, respectively, on Time Warner Cable.

To receive all services, Digital TV, remote and lease of a digital set-top box are required. Some services are not available to CableCARD(TM) customers. Not all equipment supports all services. All services may not be available in all areas. Subject to change without notice. Some restrictions apply.

I really can't believe Glenn Britt makes a multi-million dollar salary. He is so clueless. He talks about eliminating set tops and how they need encryption yet the cable industry killed off CableCard for televisions by non support of two way (Tru2Way). Time warner is making some advances at a snails pace. I mean we are over 7 years into Navigator and they are finally giving it resources to get fixed.

So, the NFL Network is too expensive for TWC (approx $.75)? Yet, TWC wants to charge $3.95 per subscriber for their newly created LA sports networks.

And yet they think for San Diego, Fox Sports San Diego is too much.

I have ragged on TWC in the past, but in case you missed it, the following announcement from TWC is an epic facepalm moment: http://www.fiercecable.com/story/time-warner-cable-patents-method-disabling-fast-forward-function-dvrs/2012-06-19?utm_medium=nl&utm_source=internal

If this happens, I might as well give up having DVR service.

The question is would it be enough to make you at least consider changing providers?

I would look at possibly a Tivo or just drop Time Warner altogether. People forget that you are basically paying to watch commercial now with there being 3 breaks in a 30 minute show plus the product placement. I don't really have an issue with product placement either unless it's totally in your face and takes away from the show. Product placement is the future (well, here now) of advertising and should be integrated seamlessly. This is such a ridiculous idea. Why is it an issue now?

NFL Network, RedZone Face August 1 Drop on Former Insight Systems
Time Warner Cable, Which Now Owns the MSO, Still Doesn't Have Carriage Deal for Pro Football League's Services
Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 7/27/2012 2:46:41 PM

The National Football League says Time Warner subscribers are about to lose its in-house network and ad-hoc scoring channel on the systems formerly ownedy by insight Communications.
The carriage contract for NFL Network and NFL RedZone and Insight, which was purchased by Time Warner Cable for $3 billion in February, expires on July 31. The nation's No. 2 cable operator has never reached a distribution deal for the NFL properties. Insight had carried NFL Network since 2005 and NFL Red Zone since 2005.
The pro football league said there are no current negotiations with Time Warner Cable.
"We are not asking for new terms. We would extend the agreement as is for the next five years, the same terms that Insight has been happy with for years and would insure that Insight customers would have the NFL Network and NFL RedZone for years to come," said an NFL Network spokesman.
The league points out that the Thursday Night Football schedule has been expanded to a 13-game slate, kicking off during the second week of the 2012 campaign, and NFL Network is launching a new four-hour morning show on July 30.
"We have had discussions. There is no agreement yet," said a Time Warner Cable spokeswoman, who called the extant Insight price as "still too high. We don't believe it represents a good value for our customers."

An Aug. 1 disconnect would mark the second time a Time Warner Cable acquisition has intercepted NFL Network's subscriber roster. Time Warner Cable in September 2006 dropped the network from systems serving 1 million customers it acquired from Adelphia Communications and swapped with Comcast as part of the two largest MSOs' purchase of the bankrupt operator.
NFL Network begins its expansive preseason game coverage with the NFL Hall of Fame Game on between the Arizona Cardinals and New Orleans Saints on Aug. 5. During the 13th week of the season, NFL Network will televise the Cincinnati Bengals-Philadelphia Eagles matchup within Insight's home market territories of Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. By rule, the NFL also makes home market games available over a local broadcast market in the home team's DMA.

TWC NYC just got MTV2 HD and TV Land HD
Down here, near Wilmington NC, we've had them for a couple of days, they just didn't show up in the guide. Also MTV jams and MTV Hits have been added.

Yeah, Time Warner has a habit of adding channels in the middle of the night with no notice. Our lineup grew from 15 to well over 100 HD channels with no fanfare or announcement by TWC.

Time Warner Cable Punts NFL Network from Former Insight Systems
Disconnect Came Despite Negotiations, Pro Football League Offer to Freeze Prices on Service, NFL RedZone
Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 8/1/2012 6:01:00 PM

With the contract expiring at midnight with the former Insight Communications systems serving Kentucky, Indiana and Ohi, NFL Network went dark for Time Warner Cable subscribers in those areas.
The MSO, which purchased the Insight systems for $3 billion in February, does not have a carriage deal with the National Football League for its in-house network and ad-hoc scoring channel, NFL RedZone.
The August 1 drop came despite some last-minute negotiations between the parties.
"We asked for a short extension so we could try to finalize an agreement, but they refused," said a spokeswoman for the nation's No. 2 MSO. "Conversations are ongoing and we remain hopeful that we can reach a resolution. But we have been close before only to have it fall apart so we need to be cautious about predicting success."
The pro football league said it had made new negotiating overtures, offering to freeze the price on its two properties.

"Last night, as Insight's longtime NFL Network and NFL RedZone subscribers faced the prospect of Time Warner Cable dropping the channels, we offered to renew the same terms with Time Warner Cable at a 0% rate increase for a package that this season will include 63% more live Thursday Night Football games and 80% more live weekday programming. Time Warner Cable refused and will now offer those customers 100% less NFL Network and NFL RedZone. Of the country's eight largest TV providers, Time Warner Cable remains the only one which denies its customers NFL Network."

This marks the second time a Time Warner Cable acquisition has intercepted NFL Network's subscriber roster. Time Warner Cable in September 2006 dropped the network from systems serving 1 million customers it acquired from Adelphia Communications and swapped with Comcast as part of the two largest MSOs' purchase of the bankrupt operator.
NFL Network begins its expansive preseason game coverage with the NFL Hall of Fame Game between the Arizona Cardinals and New Orleans Saints on Aug.

Despite what happened here, the wording makes me more hopeful that something will finally get done this year.

After all, a few days ago there were apparently no talks.

They were close last year and the new Insight systems along with the extra games might be just the right kicker.

Hopefully, they can finally get it done so I can finally have the RedZone Channel.

I've been told by someone who knows (about this situation) ... don't believe what you read. The good news is that they are still working it. The bad news is that there is a lot of accumulated acrimony. Ultimately, it will be whether both sides can agree on a deal that each feel is a good business decision.

I do hope this is the case. They got close last year and am hopeful.

We should find out within 6 weeks.

Yes HDNet Movie Channel is what we were referring to. Uncut unedited uncensored in OAR and a slight watermark that eventually fades away in the beginning of the movie. That's how it used to be here with former (Adelphia ) TWC was carrying the ch.

Yeah, I guess from this point on when someone mentions HDNet, they're referring to HDNet Movies.
A quick question, when you order an HD movie, do they still show it as 16x9, even if the movie was 2.35:1?
And to think, Mark Cuban wanting HDNet (Now AXS.TV) on Digital basic instead of the HD Pak tier was the main reason for it's along with HDNet Movies pulling 3 years ago.

AXS.TV is not going to fetch more money from systems other than Dish Network. If HDNet Movies was not attached to it, I am sure that channel would still be on TWC and BHN systems. I never got the HD Pak but know many miss HDNet Movies.
