50px60u - $3499

So why would anyone buy the 42px60u for $2999? Just because they can get it "right now"? I'll take a pass on that one. I'm certainly not paying MORE than MSRP.

With all the craziness over pricing, I may just try and pick up last year's TH-50PHD8UK since they seem to be coming available again.

I'm not associated with the company mentioned above, in fact, I'm waiting to find out about the 42PX600U, not the 60, but it looks like the price in their special is right at the MSRP, if you assume around $200 for shipping, which is pretty standard. Plus, you get the 5-years of warranty. Personally, if I were looking for that model, I'd jump on it.

There is also one AVS sponsor, think we are allowed to mention names, Cleveland Plasma, who has some in stock. His ad is usually at the bottom on the page here. His prices are good.

I have to laugh when somebody pushes to buy from a place they themselves did not buy from.

According to my talk with a Panasonic Direct sales rep this morning, the TH-42PX60U will be available for sale from them tomorrow (3/10). This could be a great deal because they offer free shipping plus 10% off your first order when you join Club Panasonic (free). Assuming the MSRP is $2499, that could save $250.

Throug their website? I assume it will be listed tomorrow. Don't see it listed with the normal consumer products.

Try $500 when you consider shipping.

I really wanted the TH-42PX600U but am finding it difficult to wait another 2 months ..... is there anything important that I would be giving up that might affect PICTURE QUAILITY vs the 60U or is just some bells and whistles?

NO - PQ
yes - W&B (cable card, VGA connection, and I think a hit on surround sound)
anyone?? oh yeah, the 600U has 4 speakers (2 woofers, 2 tweeters); 60U has 2 full range speakers.

Purchasing the TH-42PX60U 3/10 on Panasonic website: Great savings but, not that great if you want to finance through them.
i'm not positive, but i think they offer 0% financing for their "club members" who qualify, so it wouldn't be bad at all. i can't remember the terms though.
anandrag,

60U will be a better panel that the 8Uk series (and the 50U series). My understanding is that the commericial verison of the 60U series will not be out for awhile (based on when the 8uk series became available)

I just got off the phone w a panasonic customer service rep about the financing
for club members, she wsn't aware of 0% financing terms for plasma TV purchases
"at this time"... maybe after 3/10 they may be aware. The standard terms are 26.2% APR.
its not hard to find a 0% credit card for 6 months or so

Take a look at these specifications on the Panasonic site. They are fairly complete except that no weight or dimensions are given.

Interesting I saw the TH-37PX50U at Fry's last week for $$$$ and today it's $$$$, which puts it in line with the MSRP of the 60U...perhaps they realized they were not selling any at $$$$ with the MSRP price drop on the very near horizon...
This may seem to be a bit silly, but when the height dimension of a unit is given, is it the panel only or does it include the stand? If it is only the panel, how much does the stand add to height? Thanks.
The actual MSRP price of the TH-37PX60U is $1999.95!

Also, the dual tuner (PIP) is a major advantage of the 600U for some. (me included!)

and..let's see what else.. it's about 6 lbs heavier and the bezel design is more
uniformly black. OK I'll end it there.

is there any difference in pq between 1024 x 768 and 1024 x 720. I.E. which is better.

The sales rep from Panasonic Direct just called me and said the 42PX60U can be ordered now. Free shipping and 10% off MSRP as a first time Club Panasonic buyer. Go to the Panasonic website and signup if you haven't already.

I don't think you can order online yet, but you can call any sales rep at Panasonic. My sales rep's name was Nate: 1-866-375-1407 Option 1, Ext 4516.

There is a 30-day return policy but there is the 15% restocking fee, plus you have to ship it back to them. So probably not a good idea if you're not sure, or if you want to try to price-match.

Noob here.

Board has been very useful and informative.

FYI, just got off the phone with panasonic. They say that the $2499 was a weird intro price, and that the real price will be $2699. You can still get the 10% off and the free shipping.

Though you all might want to know this, as I did not see it posted previously. Mods, delete the price if you need to, but it isnt associated with a particular store so I figured it was cool.

edit: when I spoke to them today, I was unable to place the order, but they said very soon.

I had ordered a pio 4360-HD, and then heard a variety of issues about pixels, bad customer service, as well as pio getting out of the plasma business. I also havent seen any new pios since the 4360 and that has been out for a while. So I cancelled my order today.

I was waiting for the 60U, and I think I may get it as it is a good deal cheaper and seems to be much improved over the 50U which I felt was a close second to the pio. I liked the 43" size and the black of the pio, but the 60U sounds promising and has the dual HDMI slots that I need. Not crazy about the design, but if I can save a good chunk of cash, then so be it. Also considered the Toshiba 42hpx95. Despite good reviews on here, I couldnt find it reviewed ANYWHERE else. That was troubling, and it seems it was built off of an earlier design than the 60u has.

heightsGT, I do not know where you heard/read that Pioneer is getting out of the Plasma business but that rumour is wrong. In fact, Pioneer had a big showing at CES in January where they had the very first 50" 1080p Plasma (PRO-FHD1) to be released in a few months.
