Question; is the 50PX60 noticably sharper than the 42" version with HD source material? (due to the fact that the 50" can do 720p native, without any scaling)
Anyone wall mounted their 42 or 50" 60s yet? If so, would a sanus vmpl series work? thx.

The resolution of the 50" is 1366x768 so 720p signals (1280x720) will be scaled as well.

Yeah ok, but less. (and with 1080i much less)

Isn't this pretty much always the case (that scaling will take place) unless you have an option to disable overscan?

The 65" 600 better have the ability to disable overscan for when I play 1080i/p HD-DVD/Blu Ray material. I don't want no stinkin' scaling of my native 1920x1080 source on my native 1920x1080 display!

Second question (for the ones who know the new PX60 as well as the "old" 50/500 series); is the "just" mode the same (regarding the way of stretching 4:3 material >16:9)?
I don't like the "just" mode on the older 50/500 series, i hope they've changed it more in a way the current commercial models handle the just mode. Faces in the middle look more natural with these.

That price is REALLY low. What scares me is that it says "Warranty: N/A". What does that mean?
In an earlier post I said I was having noise at the top of the screen of my 50PX60U when it was displaying 720p (specifically ABC HD local station).

I did a new test. I attached a cheap rabbit-ear antenna to the antenna input of the 50PX60U, via a coax cable. Then I tuned to the ABC HD station using the antenna and voila, no noise. Switched back to the SA8300HD component input and the noise was there.

So it was the DVR that is causing the noise, not the station. I feel so much better!

Just saw this article about the px600u. It states a release date of May for the series.

There are 2 good stretch modes, full and just. Just stretches the sides and the corners of the screen more than the middle. Full stretches the entire screen uniformly. I prefer just mode but the full is good also.

On another note, I hooked up the Zenith Silver Sensor today and was very impressed with the ability to receive OTA HD. The quality was great and it was nice to be able to use the HD fill mode. I know people have been doing this for a long time but it's new to me.

Was there a specific link or source for that story? Still can't believe Panasonic hasn't planned this release any better than they have. Not many consumer companies that create an instant shortage on release of a new product! (and haven't had supply in the pipeline of the old model for several months - not the way they teach it in B-school!)

Not much data on these sets on their website, so I suspect that just means they haven't input it yet. These all come with a 1 year warranty from Panasonic standard, as long as you buy from an "official" retailer.

The site won't let me upload the URL but the info is located on the Hexus.lifestyle site

Yes, but are these guys "official"?

Sorry this site won't let met post the link but here's the quote on the delivery in the article:

Launching in May, the PX600 range is available in 37in, 42in and 50in versions. Presenting the very best in plasma performance, the Panasonic PX600 is the ultimate High Definition plasma for 2006.

Yup, still there. They'll sell all they have. Good looking set. I'm totally sold on the 9G screen, so it doesn't tempt me. It's so last year.

I agree with a previous poster. What's up with Panasonic? The roll out is about as bad as the Microsoft XBOX 360.

fwiw...
for those of you w/ comcast...or, know someone w/ comcast...
you can still order through their panasonic partner site w/ the mail-in rebate...
so, in the end the price matches that of the club panasonic....

As far as i know Panasonic has no official retailers. Their warranty and support is valid no matter where you purchase your set.
Hi,
Just went through Th-42px60U specification, could not find a digital optical output
port on this TV. Does it mean I have to connect to surround sound through analog composite cables? What sound quality will I loose?

Thanks for your help

I believe that Panasonic USA doesn't really know what exactly they sell. Otherwise how this is possible that some of the retailers have 50PX600U while Panasonic says it is not available yet? It is even better ...they said that 58PX600U will be available in 3 months while some of the big retailers take pre-orders for next month delivery!.

I suspect that some retailers need to have very good connections with manufacturer and they have shipments before product is even marketed to open public. Otherwise it's pretty hard to explain this situation.
I can think of two easy ways to explain it:
- retailers taking pre-orders for unrealistic delivery dates;
- panasonic direct sales getting lower priority on the distribution list than their big retail partners.
Seems as though the release date for the 600 is similar to the 500's which will be June.

Once again Panasonic can make a GREAT TV but they certainly can NOT give an accurate release date.

lets hope that JUNE is realistic
yes...you can call Panasonic Direct 10 times during a day and hear 10 different delivery dates lol
post #837 of 5782
OK, a couple of questions for those who have the 60u. First, does the panel have less glare than the 8th generation? Is it now similar to the Pioneers?
Also, my main reason for getting the 600u is for the PC input. But has anyone tried a VGA/component or DVI/HDMI PC connection to the 60u?
I can't find any info on the 60 at costco..can someone pm me a link?

I originally had a 42PX60U on order with Panny Direct but their order department is totally disoriented, I canceled and picked one up from the BB warehouse down the street from me. The local BB store was more than happy to match Panasonic Direct's compelling pricing offer, so I ended up with no difference and I now have a shiny new 42PX60U in the TV room. Nice...

BTW - I picked up the 42PX in a Toyota Highlander (much bigger than an Accord) and I can tell you that we had to remove nearly all the boxes to get this sucker to fit in the back of the car. The guys there strongly recommended against leaving it in a horizontal position (makes sense - an uneven surface could act as a lever and crack the screen) so we had to jury-rig a vertical position for the TV. Worked out well, fortunately I'm only 5 miles from the BB depot.
