Official Panasonic 37", 42", 50", 58" & 65" (60, 600, etc)- Questions, Sightings, Etc - Page 29

Yesterday morning I talked to Jeff at Panasonic Direct (PD) and, after asking to talk to a supervisor, he took my name down and said he would call me when the 42PX60U is available, around March 27. I speculate that the reason PD stopped taking orders is that Panasonic's retailers complained that PD was stealing sales from them, specially under the Club Panny terms.

Yesterday evening I went down to BB in Mission Valley (San Diego) and bought a 42PX60U. They met all the terms of Club Panny, except for the 2-day service which is under Panasonic's warranty anyway. Hopefully, I will not need service, and if I do a technician will arrive within 2 days of my call anyway.

My plasma will arrive Saturday!

Will the 37" 600U be available here in the States? If so, has an MSRP been announced?

Also, I see many have ordered the 42" and 50" 60Us. Anyone been able to order the 37 from either Panasonic Direct or BB?

I preordered the 37" 60u from Best Buy (at above MSRP - Im relying on the 30 day price match guarantee that I'll use with the lowest price I can find when the time comes).

They gave me an expected arrival date to the warehouse of 3/25 and delivery date to my apartment in NYC of 4/2. I've been reading these boards pretty closely and it doesn't seem as though anyone's gotten their hands on a 37" 60u yet. Since Panny put the 42" and 50" 60us on its website and has yet to update with the 37" it seems clear that the 37" is a part of the second wave.

The 600 article described " the ingenious V-Real technology" and "a new digital processing chip-set" dubbed the Digital Re-Mastering Processor, that "up-converts standard definition video signals." Are these features also in the 60 series?

Thanks for your help

The TH-50PX60U has a digital optical output port, so I'm sure the 42" does also.

I'd be surprised if the 60u series didn't have it. The SD PQ is pretty darn good. It's much better than my Zenith Z50PX2D that met an untimely end.

Per the Panasonic 2006 Flat Panel Display (VIERA) brochure at:

http://www.panasonic.it/_ftp/catalog...ctlg_EU_06.pdf

they both have them. See the features on pg 26.

Can any TH-42px60u owner kindly confirm this?

Did you folks notice in the article on Nexus that the PX600 uses "a maximum of 11.5 bit processing for 3072 steps of gradation"? This certainly seems like a step backward from the current commecial panels which claim 14-bit with 4096 steps via the HDMI input. What is this telling us? I read earlier a claim that they were doing 16-bit processing with the PX60/PX600. Yes these sets are a step up from the PX50/PX500, but a step down from the PDH8UKs? Confusing to me.

Yes, this is unfortunate- but has been covered before. No excuse has been given.

Cool.

Looks like there's an option for the stand(s) as well.

Don't get too excited about the stand option in Italy...an earlier comment in this thread, I believe, was that the European versions had those options, but the American ones did not. If I had the option to get a swivel stand on the 60, then I'd order that today, but that is one of the factors requiring I wait for the 600.

Also, in regards to the European brochure, previously Bruzzi requested a picture of the back of one of your guys' new 60U -- has that been posted, or are we still looking for that? Seems like if we had a picture of the back, and all the connections, it would answer the issue about the optical jack.

I wish the web sites would stop showing the PHD8UK series with a pedestal stand that is optional. Even the Panasonic web site has got it wrong.

Or does Costco provide the stand at no additional cost?

Its a long wait for the 600U series and not so long for a 60U. Since the VGA computer interface is not a great incentive given the DVI to HDMI will have better PQ it comes down to the stand, better audio, PIP, cable card and just looks or styling. A few hundred more cost should also be considered.

I'm on the fence on the styling. On one hand, the 60U has mostly a sliver of silver bezel except at the bottom. The picture almost floats in space. On the other hand, the thicker black matting and more uniform bezel of the 600U seem to isolate the screen better.

I apologize upfront for my ignorance in this matter, but can the PHD8UK series be converted to have basically all the features of a PX50 or PX600 (without the speakers)? I like the looks of the PHD8UK series, it seems to have great quality, and they DO have that nice, optional stand, but anyone list all the additional components I'd need to make it into a 50 or 500? (like blades, tuners, connections, etc.) I'm still waiting for the 600, and it appears to be a longer wait than I anticipated, so I am considering that other option. (since I already have the audio equipment I will be using)

I just received a phone call from Panasonic today confirming my order TH-50PX60U ( still no email yet). Was told my order will be sent to the warehouse to be processed for shipment. She said the est date is still March 22 or 23. We will see. I placed my order on 03/10. I will need a wallmount also, any suggestions.. Thanks
post #858 of 5782
I almost ordered px60u, but if I have to wait to get it, I will check 600u first if it worth more money.

The additional things that for 600u is not really a VGA input or PIP but the cable card and better audio system. After reading the plasma FAQ, it seems that cable card should be a way to go for the PQ if you don't really need PPV or On Demand (I gave up using that because it has a very slow response).

About the audio system, I won't buy any extra audio system anyway, do you think 600u will give you enough theater-like experience?

Since nobody has tried px600u yet. I wonder if 500u sound is much better than 50u sound?

Just got that same automated phone call for delivery of my 42px60u on the 21st. I had a conflict so they are delivering on 3/20! Ordered mine on 3/13 through Panny Direct - interesting to note that the Order Status is still not able to find my order online :-).

I got in on the lower price yesterday and also noticed that it had gone up today. Ordered the 50PX60U. I called PC Connection and confirmed that they would honor the price when I placed the order. I was told that they have 40 units on order and expect delivery by the end of March.
I was getting very anxious because I have a 42-60u on special order from CC, but was debating on getting it from BB instead because I have been reading in this thread that the warehouse/distribution center near NYC has them in stock ready for delivery. I gave the salesperson the SKU number and he imformed me that the warehouse is SOLD OUT and they have approx 93 pending special orders waiting for the next shipment when it arrives.

Why cant Panasonic send alot out. When is the mass-unvailing that all the big stores will be getting them. The actual release date. This is starting to be a annoying marketing campaign and ability to purchase.
Wonder what the deal with that is. Dissapointing, I was really liking that price.
Any information from TV Authority? Their web page shows an early April date for orders now, but how about the pre-orders?

Thanks for the info! I ordered the 50" as well, so hopefully they get them in soon. I jumped on that one as soon as I saw it. I was even holding out for the 42" 600 at the time, but the price was too good to pass up. Cheaper and a bigger screen. So much for the cable card and the PC input I guess!
