You really should invest in a receiver and a set of speakers. Nearly any receiver these days has digital audio inputs and integrated Dolby/DTS decoding; the receiver will switch, decode, and amplify the audio signals from your input sources and send them to the speakers.
If you need a speaker system on the cheap, check out the Logitech Z-5500. Good sound plus digital audio decoding.
For a bit more money, I'm a fan of the Energy Take 5 speaker system, but search the forums for a wealth of information on audio components.
