This is not a pick up and play game. Takes about an hour for an unfamiliar person to get used to. Controls are kind of clunky and the d-pad short comings doesn’t help. GFX is good but there is room for improvement.

Gameplay is good, you cannot run head on. Environment and lighting are excellent.

And people who are giving this 2/10 are trolls or don’t have the game at all. Even if it’s not you kind of game it doesn’t deserve that low of a rating.

Finally, I feel bad for people who cannot enjoy this. Better luck with other games. This should keep be busy for a while.

I really dislike the controls. Way too slow and you can't adjust them. Maps are well thought out but too large for just 16 players. 6 out of 10.
I gave it a 9. Nothing like crawling up to a corner, turning on the night vision scope, peeking out, zooming the scope, holding your breath, and nailing an unsuspecting enemy in the head from a long way away. (where are you Jack Thompson? lol)

I really enjoyed the sniper missions in COD2 and this is even better in my opinion.

Using the other assets is fun, but trying to control yourself, your squad, a bradley, and a blackhawk at the same time is challenging.

I think the controls favor slow and paced gameplay, as opposed to getting off any twitch shots. Hidden head shots work really well. Seems like the point in the street to street fighting is to take the enemy out stealthily before they can see you, and if not, flank them using your squad. Fans of Doom/UT style FPS games may not like the deliberate slow pace of the game. Run across the open street, or stick out too far and 2 shots will kill you. Don't hide behind that car, because it will blow up when the shooting starts (learned that the hard way).

The only thing that didn't impress me as much as the rest was the sound effects. Could have been done a lot better.

This is my 11th 360 title, and is the best so far.

For the first time in a long time, I'm enjoying online play more than I am playing single player.

The action is more fast paced online. Also, when hosting a game - make sure to go into Advanced Settings and turn OFF "Show enemies on intel map". Having them off is much more fun and realistic.
I've only played it for about 20 minutes or less and have enjoyed it I'm not usually a fan of commanding a group but this is real easy. Its easy to command I hated Full Spectrem Warrior this is so much easier plus you get to actually shoot your gun. I think multiplayer and online is really where this game is going to shine. You won't have to worry about commanding your group. The graphics are good in some points and not so good in others. I gave it a 9 out of 10 because I know multiplayer and online are going to kick ass.

Jason,I'm a little like you when it comes to gaming but if you play online you will get that action you are looking for.I could not be happier with this game

Too late , I already sold it ;) .

I played an online game with it (Instant Action) and was honestly not that impressed with the game . Which is not to say there is anything terrible about the game but it is just not my thing and I did not feel I would play it enough to justify the cost . Now when I can pick it up for $30 used or so then I might try to get into it a little . I never really liked the previous GR games either so I was hoping for a totally different experience . Could be worse , at least it is not as bad of a game as 'The Outfit' ;) .

-- I think much of the hype for this game is fueled by people wanting it so bad and wanting it to be great even more that they are unwilling to say anything negative about it . The desire for a new GREAT game has been there for a while now ;) .

Jason,

Are there any games for the 360 you like?

I cant recall you speaking positively about any game lately.

And THe Outfit is a very cool game once you realize its not a FPS.....

Im not a fan of people making snap judgments on games based on less than an hour of game play....
I played for about 2 hours last night offline and another 2 online and voted a "9".

I dropped a point and almost two based on one major factor: Lack of control customization. With only 3 set controls I am unable to get a truly "comfortable" control system. I certainly felt more comfortable after 4 hours with the game but it is never going to be as good as it could have been had UBI allowed us to customize the controls.
I am loving the game, single play is challanging and confusing sometimes. I finally got down all of the controls. I really like teh stand offs like when protecting the president and rushing to extraction points. Music gets louder and dramatic, stuff blows up everywhere, bullets flying and rebels running everywhere. Game rocks. I am going to get tired of the multiplayer though, not enough maps for me. I am going to attempt the co op missions again because me, daver, and someone else got our asses handed to us by the ai yesterday.
The gameplay is fairly deep, which is why it's not a "pick-up and play" type of game. You really have to get used to the controls.

For those that don't like it, I think it comes down to where you reside in regards to ARCADE VS. REALISM. I'm on the far end of realism, which is why this game is a must have for me and why I gave it a 10.

I can see where people aren't immediately enamored with it, because
1) They're used to run-and-gun, fast paced bunny-hop games like Counter-Strike and Halo
2) It will take time for the controls to be second nature.

It even took me a while online to realize that I shouldn't be running around at full speed to get kills (it's what I'm used to as well).

Remember, this is how these military scenarios would really play out, slow, deliberate and methodical. I don't think anyone in the Army Rangers is taught to just jump constantly if they're taking fire.

I hope UBI will get working on follow-ups and maps, because I'm going to wear this game out! As far as the score goes, I give it a perfect score, but even though games will get better this is as good as you can expect RIGHT NOW. A year from now, this game would probably warrant an 8.5-9

Also, once I hooked up with my Rainbow and Recon friends of past, and started communicating and strategizing, the gameplay really opened up as it was intended.

If you like using tactics, this is the game for you. It was a blast spreading out about 20 feet apart and canvasing the map as a group and using the drone to keep one step ahead of us.

More Useless Commentary: (Heh Heh)

MULTIPLAYER: laggy as hell, or as been my experience. I got dropped from 3 different games yesterday, and in-game people were doing the herky-jerk warp dance quite a bit. I Think game hosting people need to become aware of the limitations of broadband UPLOAD bandwidth :) I'm sure it'll settle down a bit, but as soon as I see 16 players in a game I start to expect lag, or disconnects.

I did have some great fun in the few minutes I played with DaverJ and some other dudes. Getting a kill in this game is VERy satisfying. Walking with a group of guys, and actually behaving as a squad (I scouted out some stairs..WOOOO!) was quite satisfying. Then..we all got blowed up :)

*BUT*...I'll also say this. Team Elimination is going to be a novelty for me, and I can see myself growing bored with it quickly. This game utterly favors the camper just in the nature of the pace of the game, and the fact that it moves failrly slowly with slow reaction times on the running, "diving" and maneuvering of the game. All of my kills were when I "Stopped, DRopped, and Listened". Taking out targets of opportunity whie they engaged with others on my team. Real? Maybe..but once everyone figures this out....eh..we'll see.

MY HUD ISSUE: Ok I think this is a PC screenshot, but here's what I'm talking about:http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen003.jpg

You see that nice "border" around the HUD with the neon-like greyish color? Yeah, I DONT HAVE THAT on my screen. Also, you see that weapon? Yeah, I DONT have that either. IN First Person mode on the 360 should I be seeing that hud surrounding my "stats"?? Cuz I see the Cam window in the upper left hand corner, and I see the stats in the lower left hand corner..but no hud surrounding them, they are tucked cleanly into my corners. Damn, is it an overscan issue!?!?!

Also..shouldn't I be able to see my weapon in FIRST person mode? Or is this game like the older Ghost Recons, where the weapons aren't modeled....just the aiming reticule...??

Many thanks for explanation before I go insane :)
The weapon display in first person mode is only on the XBOX platform, not the 360. I havn't played in first person yet, so I cannot comment on what else you're not seeing.

I agree with your assessment that to stay hidden helps. By moving methodically in a group, is about the only sure way to stay alive and if you can use the drone effectively, that helps.

Just as an Army Ranger squad doesn't work together effectively on day one, you have to find some people that you can play with regularly to make the most of the game.

Head the border SHOULD be there. Its there on both our 360's. The gun is only viewable because it is a mounted gun, you do not see your held weapons.

It cannot be overscan, the border intrudes on too much of the screen. Damn I need to find out how you tuen it off, I found it in the way last night in MP.

How can you play a game once and not care for it? And if that's the case it tells me that you don't like this type of Game why did you buy it in the first place

I agree I can believe someone would just drop $60 on a game on a genre they don't like. Rental sounds like a better option. Do you like FPS if so maybe Far Cry will be more your cup of tea. I think GRAW offered a good mix of Run and Gun, and Strategy Squad Combat. It's the 360's Killer App
post #49 of 235
Unless its a 1080i versus 720p thing, its gotta be an overscan/underscan issue...funny thing is, its PERFECTLY aligned :) ie: nothing is cut off, everythign is tucked neatly into my corners....as though it was meant to be that way.

Gotta be an overscan issue......or a 1080i issue if everyone else is playing on a 720p display.

I adjusted the overscan at 1080i to compensate for borders on Gran Turismo 4 at 1080i, which required me pushing things out quite a bit..somewhere between 5 and 10%.

PS: Thanks for the "no weapon on the 360 version" thing.....I thought all the versions showed the weapon modeled now in 1st person. (I play in 3rd tho..first is nice, but weird with the whole hiding and peeking thing going on).
Ok going to check the son's TV .. he has 1080i.
On my DLP the bottom of the visor border is cut off. Not the entire thing, just 30% or so in the center (it's bottom-most point). Didn't really bother me and I didn't see any menu items to adjust this. My TV doesn't adjust overscan without some work, so I'll just leave it like this. I can see all windows, popups, etc. just fine.
i played the training mission in campaign, switched to Live when some of my friends came on and didn't turn it off for 5 hours (except it froze once in a game for some reason, but i turned it back on and played for another hour without any problems.) i just really like it and can say that i think its easily the best game on the system so far. also, i thought it sucked too that you can't adjust the sensitivity but it seemed like lighter and heavier guns move your crosshair differently. unless i'm just losing it, the controls seemed more responsive with different guns.

"peeking out, zooming the scope"

When you lean around a corner, doesn't going to aim mode or zoomed-scope mode bring you out of cover completely? I.e., you're not protected or hidden anymore and must manually move back to cover and stick yourself back to the wall afterwards. Or am I missing something?
On my son's 1080i Sanyo the sides of the border are missing, to and bottom are there (Though some is missing they just happen to stick out farther than the sides).

Hey guys, I dotted the 9/10 column

SP

The Good
-Graphics
-Suround Sound
-Controls
-Immersion
-Cross Com I thought would be a bore, but man it is awesome.
-All the fun little toys like UAV, 3d map, NVG's.

The Bad
-My AI teamates were a little annoying but I kept them under tight control, I just put them in cover (ie Full Spectrum Warrior style) and took care of business.
-XY sensitivity or there lack of, one more notch up would do me good.

MP
The Good
-All the same as SP
-Cross com is cool once again, just for an exapmle a few of my buddies were sneaking up on the enemy. Then one of them yelled out, hey guys turn to my screen as he'd snuck up behind him and blew out the back of his head from 3 feet away. I couldn't stop LOL.
-Weapons
-Maps are awesome, beautiful and laid out very well.
-Not one once of lag.

The Bad.
I was up till 1:30am playing and had to get up at 5:30!!!! that is the bad!

This game is my new crack.

It really doesn't take that long to get used to the game. You just have to try, after about an hour I started getting the feel for it that I had for GR2 and I improved a ton.

This game is amazing... and is currently causing me to play catch up on some work that I planed on doing last night.

I can hear the game, but can't see anything.
Ok, so its overscan on my set..I must be more than 5% since I'm guessing you guys with DLPs have it dialed into somewhere between 0 an 5%, hence you see most of the image.

Crap.. :) Now I have to decide if I wanna adjust my geometry on my 1080i input....hehehe and all the nightmare of reconvergance thats gonna cause me! :D

This is definitely a "life killer". I'm going to have to work twice as hard/fast so I can enjoy this game. Another reason I'm going to try to avoid Oblivion.. I think I'd end up losing my home.

HeadRusch, I think the HUD isn't showing completely because of overscan. On my Sony I can see only some of the outlining blue line. I am going to try on my projector tonight and see if it is different.

As far as the game, I think it is awesome. I think it brings a next gen feel to it, in that it is so realistic. DaGamePimp is right, it is not a game you can just pick up and play for five minutes. You are at war in an urban environment and need to be smart to survive. You can't go running into the middle of a battle gunz blazing. You need to take cover and guide your team if you are going to survive.
