That costco deal is really good! I wonder if the discounts (rebates) are indicative of a newer version coming out soon as this model has been out for awhile I believe.

Westinghouse has already announced new 42, 47, and 52-inch models that include a tuner, plus 4 HDMI ports, 2 Component ports, and a VGA port, all of which support 1080p. right now the 42 and 47 inch models are listed as being available (link )

I wish they would just keep them as monitors to keep the price a little lower. I have no desire to watch TV in realtime. It's been a long time since I've used a TVs internal tuner.

As popular as its monitors are, I don't see why Westinghouse would drop the line. It may be time for a refresh, but why ruin a good thing? They're pushing for market spread and share. Having a monitor that is in constant demand helps that goal. The move to more models with tuners is just a broadening of its offerings. Not a rejection of the monitors.

I'm pretty sure i plugged in everything correctly, and yes i connected through the Yellow AV socket (the one next to S-video). I have also tried playing a tape, but still no luck. I even tried using the S-Video adapter to see if i can get a signal through S-Video, but still the LCD tells me there is no signal.

I actually don't watch too many DVD's so I let my brother borrow it and he is away in college so at the moment I don't have a DVD player to test with.

However, I think i will buy a new VCR/DVD recorder with a digital tuner and see how that works out. I'll post the results when i can.

Just to check the obvious:

(1) Are you now getting or have you ever gotten a picture of any sort on this display? Which inputs work with which devices?

(2) When trying out the different inputs, are you using the buttons at the bottom of the remote to switch between the input choices?

Agreed - I was quite happy to save a little money with a monitor. However, I think the declining prices on existing models may be due in part to the fact that the announced prices on the new 1080p TVs are in the same range as the existing 1080p monitors.

Hey all - I'm hoping someone can provide me some feedback...

I just bought this set, absolutely love it. However, I'm having some trouble with the DVI inputs.

Heres the story:

I can get it working great running from my 7800 GTX with a DVI -> HDMI Cable. But if I try to go DVI to DVI, the TV says no input.

However, the video card is definitely recognizing the display, which leads me to believe it is not a cable problem.

The 7800 GTX has two DVI ports, one is dual link TMDS and the other single link TMDS.

The DVI cable I'm trying to use is a DVI-D Dual

The DVI to HDMI cable that works is a DVI-D single to HDMI....

Any ideas on why the Westy isn't picking up the signal? I really want to free up that HMDI port.....

Thanks in advance

Could it be an HDCP problem? Do you get the same results on both DVI ports on the display? It is believed here that DVI1 does not have HDCP and DVI2 does.

It may be. For some reason I didn't think of testing that last night. I just got off the phone with Westy's tech support and they suggested I try that, and they mentioned there is a difference in the two dvi ports, however they weren't sure what it was...

Answer to #1: Currently I'm using it as a PC monitor via the DVI and there is no problem. I also tested it with the VGA cable and no problem there either. I think I will try the S-video port with the PC when I get home from work and see if that works.

Answer to #2: I used both the bottom individual labeled input choices and also just the button in the middle labeled 'input'.

On the bright side, I noticed a stuck red pixel, i used the cloth and screwdriver pressure method and it worked like a charm. The LCD is now 100% dead/stuck pixel free. In case anyone has the same problem just google 'How to fix stuck pixel' into google and there will be a bunch of sites with instructions on how to fix a stuck pixel. (I would post the one i used, but it seems like i do no have enough posts to put a link into my post yet, so if you want the site i used PM me) Note that these methods only have a chance of working on stuck pixels which are the red/green/blue ones and not the dead pixels which are white/black.

hi. so i am totally new. please don't flame me for my question. I am a college student very interested in purchasing this TV. I plan on using it as a regular HDTV and hooking my ps3 up to it. I understand that it doesn't have a tuner. But I plan to upgrade my cable box so it can play the hd channels. I was wondering if it works well as just an HDTV? It seems like as a monitor its superb. But how is regular programming; such as sports? Is there any other TV you would recommend for a cheap college student? Any response would be grately appreciated!!
i have the set with comcast and the HD package, i find myself watching mostly HD channels now, even though the lineup isnt always the greatest. but the HD channels look superb, and SD isnt too horrible.

if i were a single college student, i'd still pick this set as my favorite for the size, at any price.

I've had the37 w1 set for a couple of years now, and was using DVI1 for my computer hookup since it supported 1080p. Now it appears that port is no longer working for some reason I can't fathom, and I've been forced to move to DVI2 at 720p for the time being.

Anyway, I happen to have a bit of extra cash and was thinking about replacing this w1 with the w3 since it's so cheap at Costco. I had a few questions about the w3, but my general question is, would it be worth it?

Other questions:
1. I read there were some HDMI issues with the Playstation3. Are these resolved, or is there some kind of fix? I'd love to game in full 1080p with this sucker.

2. Related note, I also have a 360 with the HDDVD addon. To get it to play in 1080p I'd need to hook it up to the VGA port, right? And this would let me play those HDDVDs in full 1080p as well?

3. I noticed that the w1 didn't like bass too much. Whenever some low bass sound would play on the TV, the sound in general ends up almost cutting out. I realize this is a monitor first and foremost and the speakers aren't anything to write home about, but are the speakers on the w3 any better in this regard?

1. They have been fixed.

2. Upscaled standard DVDs need VGA. Games and HD DVDs will play in 1080p over component. Might as well hook it up VGA.

Hello, first post! I've been reading the AV forums for years though.

I ordered the set from Costco during the promotion period (Ends Sunday 6/10)

I also ordered a wall mount (basic one) which is already in transit, however, the panel hasn't shipped yet and it's been 3 business days since I ordered it. Anyone have trouble with shipping?

OK, the real questions: On the Westy site, they have icons for Waterfall and Auto-Switch. I can't find details for either in the manual. I'm guessing Waterfall is just the design of the rear of the set and the w3 does not auto select inputs, any experience here?

Also, there is a new Westinghouse 42/47" set out there with supposed better SD scaling than the w3, how does SD look on a w3 if fed from a comcast hd box via DVI, is it decent or awful (I'm not totally picky on SD). Same for a MiniDV camcorder over s-video. Just wondering.

Thanks All, great forum!

Just got my TV from Costco, Really noticable Stuck Green Pixel right in the center of the screen when the screen is black, sucks when I am playing Gears of War.

Dammit, now I have to order a new one and return this one.

Any body else gotten one like this?

Sucks I'm waiting on mine to ship from Costco. They told me I would get tracking numbers yesterday and still nothing. How long did it take to get yours?

Waterfall is the design of the side connectors - and the w3 does have auto-source capability (when you kicked on a new input it automatically switches for you)

SD fed over DVI looks okay - in fact, some channels I would ever say look good. While the Westinghouse TX series will probably do a better job, as long as what you're scaling is digital the Westy does an alright job. As far as input from S-Video, I've noticed that it doesn't do as good of a job scaling analog inputs.

I ordered mine on 5/31 with express shipping. As of today, my product still hasn't shipped.

Costco now says orders of this tv will now ship in 2-3 weeks on their website.
I ordered mine on 5/27 and received it on 5/30 I thought it was very quick for regular ground.

Hmmm, Well i paid for express shipping 2 days before this whole 2-3 week wait period. As long as they refund the difference, I'm ok. I'm gonna call tomorrow, because on Tuesday it'll be 5 business days and I still don't have tracking numbers.

PS3's latest firmware fixed the handshake issues. You will need VGA for all 1080p HD-DVDs and upscaled 480p/720p/1080i DVDs/games because this monitor only accepts up to 1080i over component. I don't use the monitor's speakers, so I can't comment on that.

I ordered my 37w3 from Costco on 6-4 in the afternoon. Had not shipping, so Thursday I called.

They were awaiting the arrival of their next shipment (and I got all worried that they had indefinately ran-out already!!). They said the new shipment was arriving within 2-3 weeks!! OMG, what a wait.

I call, they said they'd refund the shipping charges (I too had ordered it express, with the email stating 3-5 business days after order). The phone rep said that shouldn't of happened, but they'd refund the shipping.

So, mine shipping on Friday (must have received the new shipment) and I'll get my shipping money back, almost $70. Free wall-mount???

I don't doubt you - but have you been able to test this? What source outputs 1080p over component?

Hey guys. First post here, but big lurker since I'm hunting for an LCD.

What I've found is that compared to the other 1080p westinghouses (the 42" and 47") the 37" is the most popular. Can anyone explain why people prefer this over the two bigger models?

I'm currently deciding in between them, but if the answer to the above question is "depends on what you're planning to use it for", then... here's what I'm intending to use for as a reference:

Mainly - Games... I have a 360 and Wii already, and I'm looking to buy a PS3 in the future
Occasionally/Rarely - watching DVD's, acting as computer monitor

And I will tell you it will, I've been running Xbox 360 with component 1080p for few weeks, before I switched to VGA, so I know it works, no question about it.
