TiVo just connected to the service and detected that channel 623 ID HD channel has been added! I always like seeing new channels pop up. Are we scheduled to get any more? E! HD would be nice.

And another discovery for anyone that has TiVo, NONE of the channels are copy protected, even the premium ones. Been able to make 1:1 transfers of my favorite shows. This is the exact opposite on the Motorola boxes.

Perhaps you're right... Thought I had that option on my Cablevision remote & iO Service... Was hoping I could find one through the FIOS settings...

My issue is that I like to go to bed with the TV on and I run my audio through 2 bookshelf speakers connected to my receiver... If I use the Sleep Timer on my Sharp Aquos, the monitor turns off but the cablebox is still on and the sound is still coming out of the speakers all night long.... So without being able to turn the Cablebox off I have to utilize the sleep timer on my receiver in addition to the sleep timer on my TV.... So 3 remotes & 2 sleep timers = Pain In The ***

I am at 66th and Columbus and am President of the Board. We received a notice from the Public Service Commission that Verizon is going to be installing cable television wires in our building on or about September 1. I met with their engineering rep today and they estimate that it will take 2 months to complete the wiring once they begin. We have not yet had the conversation about the suite of services or the inducements to allow them to market in the building but I am thrilled that, after almost 3 years of talking to Verizon about FIOS, they are finally here.
In my building it seems like all the wires are coming from the roof. The wires come down the front and back of the building. They have all kinds of boxs up there. I dont kmow any thing about them. I have the 8640 HDC cable box.It is running real great, no problems WE also have the sidewalk vault on the corner of w.70 st.and amsterdam ave.

That seems to be the major impediment to moving forward quickly with Fios.

The existing upper molding was lowered on each floor of my hi-rise. A hub set up in each west compactor room. They've done this deal before. How does TW run their cable? Can your building use some space there ?
TWC had run their wires when the building was built 15 years ago. We re-did the hallways a few years ago and do not have upper molding. We don't want to use Verizon's choices for plastic installation molding so we are in the process of coming up with several wood moldings (which resemble crown molding) which should be acceptable to hide the wires. I am anticipating complaints from some unit owners (which always occurs when you touch the common areas) so I need to make the moldings as inoffensive as possible. Hope to have the moldings selected within the next week.

Anyone else in Nassau Co. experiencing service interruptions?

FIOS is out right now and this is the third time in the past week.
It was out last Sat nite till Sun AM and again, briefly, on Sun afternoon.

Support website says I'm part of a general outage, expect return by tomorrow!
Don't like the thought of giving my money to the Dolans, but I'm about ready to call Cablevision.

I've never had a single outage...ever. (I'm in Suffolk btw). I would call and see what the story is. Are you in the area that got hit hard by the storms last week? It's possible that this is part of a replacing of some main cables which were downed.

Edit: and please don't give the Dolans another dime. Justthink of all the outtages, crappy service, destruction of Knicks/Rangers you have endured thanks to them

I would wager that if there is a power failure in your area that it would affect other providers too.

Has anyone ever experienced the loss of sound when changing channels with the remote? I have had this happen in the higher HD premium channel numbers on both my DVR and also my HD box.

Do any of you guys have FiOS for your internet? (assuming most do)... Can anyone tell me what type of cable runs into the router? Is it a standard coax cable like the ones we send to our cable boxes or is it a special fiber optic cable? We may have to relocate our model to the 2nd floor of our house and we're not sure if we have to call Verizon back out to run new cable of we can just hook the modem up to one of the cable wires upstairs... Thanks for your input...

Most likely it is either RG6 coax or CAT5 or CAT5E Ethernet cable. The fiber optic cable terminates at the ONT. Only standard copper cables run from the ONT to your equipment.

Cynthia, thanks for the prompt response... RG6 is just pretty much standard TV cable wire right? (Sorry I'm not real technical)....

I'm moving to the top floor of our house (2 family home) and I am trying to figure out if I can just move the modem upstairs and plug one of the existing coax cables up there into the modem and run the internet from up there (I need to hard-wire my desktop to the modem and that's why I need to re-locate it).

No storms in local area. Called repair and they said the distribution box (a couple blocks from my house) had been vandalized. Sent a tech out to check my drop. It was fine. He went and looked at the dist box. Said it looked like squirrels had gotten in and chewed up some cables. Other techs had done lots of work on the box. Seems to be OK now.

Talked to billing today and got credit for 2 days of down time!!
Guess we still don't have to give money to Dolans.

Yeah, this happens once in a while. I'm thinking it's an overheating issue as it happens only when box has been running for quite a while.
Pressing prev channel button a couple of times usually resolves it.

If it gets worse, may have to request a box swap.

I noticed on VHO7 the SD feeds of FOX5 and MY9 have changed sources.
They were coming from a center cut down convert of the HD feeds that Verizon was providing.
They have switched Ch5 and Ch9 to the SD sub channel feeds of WNYW-DT and WWOR-DT

I noticed something changed when FOX5 SD feed had the logo with time and temp back.
The feeds also seem to have much less bit rates then the feeds Verizon was providing.
On my QAM tuner Ch5 shows up on 74.5 and Ch9 on 9.2.

This is probably because Fox no longer allows center-cutting of its HD channels for SD viewers. Fox is now broadcasting sports framed in 16:9, and they expect all TV providers to show the full 16:9 ratio of its sports programs, even for SD viewers. Yes, this means SD viewers get letterboxing.

New updates include support for external storage (up to 1TB eSATA per DVR), automatic DVD-style chaptering on recordings, and an undelete button to bring back mistakenly removed recordings. Also freshened is its MoCA-powered multiroom setup that now shows all recordings from any box or external storage all in one list.

Hey guys, I am interested in watching the upcoming Giants/Patriots game in 3D.

My TV is a Mitsubishi WD-73837 and is 3D-Ready. In order to watch TV, I need to purchase additional equipment. The question is, just how much equipment...

How much extra equipment depends on whether Fios is able to send a 3D signal already in the checkerboard format.

Does anyone know?

If Fios doesn't send in the checkerboard format, I need to purchase an adapter. (Plus the glasses and emitter).

If they do send in the checkerboard format, I only need to buy the glasses and emitter.

Thanks!

I believe every 3d event broadcast by satellite, cable, fios has required glasses

Any new info on whether or not FiOS will ever get MSG Network in HD? I heard a word of mouth rumor on another unrelated forum that it may happen around February???
i know that fios is fiber from pole to pole but cablevision is coper from pole to pole can any body back this statement up somebody hold me this
post #1073 of 1281
Yes, Verizon strings fiber up on poles, whereas Cablevision strings up copper (except where they provide Lightpath service for businesses.)

cablevision uses an hfc (hybrid fiber coax) architecture just like timewarner and comcast. fiber to the node then copper afterwards. a node feeds 500-1000 homes.

Will the KNICKS game be blacked out tonight and Friday on ESPNHD? This no MSGHD is really starting to suck big time.

If it is blacked out on ESPN HD, try watching it on ESPN3.com. If you have an Xbox 360, you may be able to get the game in HD that way.

Thanks, but it wasn't blacked out. Great game! But I Wish the game was 48 minutes and one second

I live in Manhattan and finally had a chance to sign up for FIOS (and dump crappy Time Warner after being stuck with them and their crappy service for 17 years) this weekend after it was made available in my building about 2-3 months ago.

After reading up a bit on the forums here, I inquired about the availability of the DVR with external storage, and was told that it will not be available until 2/16 or thereabouts and has been delayed twice already in December and January. So I told them to push my install date beyond 2/16 so that they can specify that they install the new DVR on my system.

Does this all sound right to you guys, or is the sales rep just clueless?

Also, is there anything, as an upcoming customer, that I should be aware of before or during install?

Thanks,
Scott

Hi Scott! Glad you were able to escape the dark side.

This thread is pretty barren of any chatter or information. A better, more active thread is the national one. This thread also has some Verizon insiders who have more information. Repost here
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...8#post19849678

Also, another site to look into that is very good for Verizon is this one http://www.dslreports.com/forums/54
I haven't been there for a long time but it is supposed to be a good source. I prefer AVS.

To answer your questions, the external drive will be enabled after we get the newest software. I believe it is v1.9. As you have heard, this has been promised for a while but I don't know when it will finally arrive.
And I can't think of anything to offer regarding pre install situation.

Good luck!
