You have no choice, you have to take what they give you. There is a newer router (w/1GB ethernet) for the highest level of internet service they offer (150/35), but everyone else gets the older one (w/100 MB ethernet connections)

Nope. Just had FIOS TV reconnected and they installed the "I" revision of the router - with GB ports and N. Still on the 50/20 plan too.

Just got FiOS installed today with 35/35 internet and was given a Rev. I.

I was rather disappointed in that they gave me 2 QIP-6416 boxes.

My guy came with one of those. I told him politely that I wanted the 7232. He went back to the warehouse and got one. Every FIOS tech I've had the pleasure of doing business with has been first-rate - and I mean that sincerely.

Oh, lucky you -- I have the Rev. G router & 35/35 plan. I wonder if mine were to somehow go wonky they would send me a Rev. I at this point?

There was a time about 6 months ago you'd only get a Rev. I router with the 150/35 plan

My installer mentioned that they didn't have any available. I went ahead and but the bullet. Ordered two 7232's online at $39.99 each.

I'm already noticing a HUGE difference in PQ from TWC.

Yes, the difference was striking when I first got mine hooked up as well. I'd never go back to TWC by choice.

I'm a huge TWC hater but I have to say that, recently, I've noticed a huge improvement in the stability and quality of it.

What I've heard, and others here seem to confirm, is that if you ask the installer for the latest router, he'll often comply. And "I" is the latest, preceded by by "G"...both with gigabyte ports. "F" is apparently the same but without gigabyte ports. So I'll ask for "I" and see what happens.

Also, it appears from the online order status that the DVR will be a 7232. If not, I'll also ask about that.

Ordered an upgrade on Thursday for two QIP7232's. Both were delivered today.

Had trouble activating one of the boxes, called Customer Service and had it fixed within 30 minutes. So far VZ customer service has been great.

FiOS was installed today...took about 4 hours total. I got the 7232 DVR and the Rev I router. According to the installers, that's pretty much all they provide on new installs. What surprised me the most? The size of the battery backup is huge! We have three phone lines so they installed an ONT that can accommodate up to eight lines and that's why, according to the installers, the battery backup is so large.

One question. They took the router instructions. Is it possibly to get in and rename the SSID and edit the key?

Yes, you can hit 192.168.1.1 in your browser to get to the admin panel. You need the password though. If you search on the net there is a straightfoward way to reset the router password (though I can't remember it right now). I've gone in and changed lots of things in the router.

Do u in live in apt or house? Just wondering if they are installing those mini desktop ONTs (presumably with smaller battery) outside of Manhattan.

Hold the reset button on the back of the router for 10 seconds. Once the router has booted back up (the globe light should go on), immediately go to 192.168.1.1 and enter the following login: admin/password.

Has anyone out there attempted to exchange the old Rev. (was it F or G?) router for a newer one? I wonder what the official Verizon line is on that.

1G ethernet (vs 100M) and the upgraded wireless specs would be nice.

Wow you weren't kidding about the battery b/u being huge. Do you know what kind of ONT you would have got if you didnt need 3 phone lines?

Can someone help me out with a quick test, hopefully on Long Island? I've been troubleshooting an issue with tech support for a little while with no success. If you could follow these quick steps on an HD box and tell me if you see the same results, that would be awesome.

Hit on demand on the remote.
Go one down to TV Shows
Over to Free
Over to All Free A-Z
Over to Food Network
Over to Food Network HD
Over to Chopped All Stars
Play any one of the options.

When you get into the show (past the commercials) can you tell me if the Food Network logo in the bottom right corner is just hardly showing? Also, does the image appear to be stretched and scanning? Here are some shots of what it looks like for me.

No, not sure. I may be able to find a neighbor who has had FiOS installed and see what they got.

...snipped

I'm in Dix Hills. Got the same results as you.

Viewed the SD version and the logo/format are correct. However with black bars on all 4 sides ( SyFy ch broadcasts movies on their HD ch in this format sometimes.)

In any event, it's Fios (or the FN) that's providing this screwed up format, not a problem on our end.

Ok, thanks for confirm this. I was on the phone yesterday with verizon tech and they weren't able to see the issue on their end. Now I know its them, not me.

This thread has been quite for for some time now.

Got an on screen msg from Vzn this morning that there will be a new Media Guide installed during the night on June 26th.

Hopefully this wil be a BIG improvement. (VHO5)

Features/bug fixes (at least the ones other people have found) are documented here:

Hi all,

I'm an Optimum subscriber thinking of switching. Is there anywhere I can directly compare the channel packages between the services to see what I'm getting/losing? Much appreciated!

Just ordered triple play (adding TV to our Double play since it cost less) and was wondering with QAM tuners TV why would i need their cable box? It cost $6 a month to rent and having 2 TVs wired. Guy is going to have to run wires since this house was built before cable.

You'd need their box (or cable card) because most (or all?) of the channels are encrypted, so you would not be able to view them otherwise.
