Oh...good question. :)

No, not at this time. I asked Sony's North American projector guru who was at the show about that very thing and he was willing to volunteer that he had heard there were things in the developement stage in Japan, but nothing firm enough to have any details about as yet. As Esox mentioned, there may be more to talk about at CEDIA, but I certainly don't expect any new projector product launch before the end of the year.

Just to point out the obvious but Paul Sweeting has been wrong about Blu-ray several times including this time. His articles are usually rather well made but he definitely has a bias for HD-DVD that leads him to make some rather questionable predictions against Blu-ray.

The official excuse is that it is because of Blu-ray but honestly their are probably several reasons that it was delayed. Some good things about the delay is that it will give more time for polished games and Blu-ray playback software to be made, it will lower manufacturing cost, and it may allow for HDMI 1.3 support to be added.

SurfingMatt27, it was an official press conference from Sony and as such it was not just a random remark by Ken Kutaragi as you seem to imply. Also you don't have to wear you fanboy hat all the time and exaggeration is something that has been done by all three console manufacturers.

As has already mentioned the final development kits for the Xbox 360 didn't come out until August of last year. As currently planned the final PS3 development kits will come out in June.

From the looks of the sonystyle specs the Sony BDP-S1 Blu-ray player is capable of 8 channel PCM output over HDMI but it limited to 5.1 channel analog output.

And actually into the Board room…….for a time !

The take home message for the typical unbiased AVS forum member reading this (to keep in mind) is that ……..K.K. is a micromanager that nitpicks about the smallest details which often grates on the nerves of his engineers.

The winner ends up being…………………

The Consumer !

I think WE need more people like him. :)

I'm baffelled by some of the statements made about the price of the PS3, people constantly forget or ignore the fact that no matter what the cost price Sony will sell it at a loss. If they have to price it at 599 and take a bigger loss they probably will. Nintendo is the only company making a profit on Hardware.
