In reading other forums, I believe this is what is known as ghosting. I would like to know more about this effect before purchasing a new panel. I am also interested in the LX600.
How high are you running your backlight and brightness? Perhaps toning it down a bit will help?

Can anyone tell me if the LX600 has access to the discrete input selection through programming codes on universal remotes such as the Logitec Harmony?
I realize it does not have discretes on the supplied remote.
I want to be able to program macros to switch my receiver inputs and television inputs at the same time.
I am considering the LX600 for purchase, but want to know if this option is missing.

Need a favor from someone with a Panasonic TC-32LX60. Could you check your inputs while muted and listen for a noticeable hum while standing next to the TV. I can hear a hum on my "TV" and "HDMI" inputs but the "Component" and all the "Video" inputs are dead silent. I can't figure out why it's only on those two inputs. I can hear it when there are quiet scenes so it's not just when muted.

Thanks in advance for any help...

No hum at all here, on any input.

So i'm looking at the 32lx60 and must admit I'm a bit confused. I'm in Canada and when I look at the specs on the panasonic canadian website it says that the model does not have an integrated tuner. If I look at the panasonic usa website it says it does. The manual provided on the site makes no reference of it/

The brochure produce/link provided on this site, futureshop (canadian retailer), american panasonic website etc. say yes it does. Canadian panasonic website says it does not. So does it have an integrated atsc tuner and the canadian panasonic site is wrong or it doesn't and the canadian model (with an identical model number) have different specs?

The Canadian website is wrong. Here is a link to the operating manual: http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPER...LX60-MULTI.pdf. Use of the digital tuner (atsc) is described on page 9. The back third of the manual is in French and includes a list of Canadian service centers.

Hi BMAG,

I just bought a 600 but not subscribing to HD cable yet because of the extra expense ($400) in buying a HD Motorola converter box. I use Noxus cable in Vancouver, BC.

Are you saying if I subsribe to the HD cable signal, my 600 would be able to pick up the HD channel without the Motorola? That would be a big pleasant surprise.

Thanks a lot.

It depends on how your cable company distributes the signal. The built-in QAM tuner will pick up any unencrypted channels. My cable provider, Comcast (in New Jersey) does not encrypt ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CW (the former WB), PBS, Discovery-HD, or Universal-HD, so my 32LX60's tuner gets them, but ESPN-HD, ESPN2-HD, TNT-HD, MTV-HD, INHD, and all the pay services (HBO, etc.) are encrypted so it does not pick them up. Your 600 has a cable card slot -- maybe your cable company provides cable cards for less than the set-top-box charge.

[EDIT] Never mind, no cable slot on the 600[/EDIT]

The 600 has a cable card slot? I didn't think it did. Can someone confirm this? I'm in the market to buy one and have heard nothing about it having one.

Oops, my mistake. I was assuming that since the "600" line of Panasonic plasmas has the slot, the LCDs do as well, but I was wrong

Thanks for the clarification.

Can any of you answer an earlier question I had that went unanswered? I am wondering if the lx600 has discrete input selection access via programming codes for a universal remote. I would like to have the ability to program macros on a universal to control inputs for my receiver and TV with the touch of a single button.

Thanks.

My apartment has a connection you plug into to access the rooftop antenna signal for regular channels and it was recommended that i use a Zenith silver sensor antenna for HD.

The listed available inputs on the 32lx60 don't say anything about antenna connections. Am I going to be able to plug these 2 antennas into this tv? I was looking to buy in the next few weeks.

Thanks a lot. Gonna give it a try.

I tried it and didn't work except I picked up a couple of channels. One of which was the Playboy channel with no sound and with a block in the middle. I've seen what I needed to see anyway. So I guess the next step is to get a DVR which is only a couple hundred bucks more than the HD converter by itself or wait for the price to drop.

I was getting hum with a bad HDMI cable that went away with a different HDMI cable. I could also hear it when muted. Maybe you have a bad cable too.

Hey All, just picked up my panny 2 days ago. Loving it sooo far, wondering what kind of video settings you guys are running ,I have not yet changed it from the factory settings as I am fairly new to LCD's.....Sorry I know this is a totally noob question, but I see there are a lot of people here that are filled with knowledge and may be able to help me set it up the best way. Thx

I have been playing around the settings but found the default settings, like vivid, standard, or cinema were pretty good. The only one I adjusted was the TV when I was watching SD channels. But then every channel looks different anyway. CNN seems to be quite good.

Thanks, Backlight and Picture are set to 20 out of the box (factory defalts), should I be adjusting the rest ie: brightness, sharpness, color to specific settings?

Hi
I have been injoying lx600 for two months now .I have not played much with
the settings ,here is what I changed; vivid to standard, backlight (-15), brightness(-15)
color temp -normal,vivid mode -off. I watch HD programs using ATSC tuner and
CM 4221 antenna. My old Panasonic RP 56 delivers good picture in progressive
scan mode , it uses Sage/Faroudja chip.Nothing can beat NFL live on NBC,ABC or
FOX though.Hope this helps.

I bought TC-32LX60 online (goog deal for less than $900), sceduled to reach me on Jan 2. I went thru this forum and found that some people were able to use it as PC monitor using DVI-HDMI cable.
I want to connect my laptop to 32LX60 but my laptop has only VGA output. Is there a way to connect laptop to panasonic using VGA out.

Also can I use S-Video cable for this purpose??

This is my first LCD so never did these funky setups.

To drOs and BMAG re: my original message #484:

Time Warner Cable (here in NYC) just replaced my old analog box (SDTV) with a new HDTV box (Scientific Atlanta 8300 HDTV) and the problem was solved. The 3/8" vertical bar on the left margin are GONE and the picture on the 32LX600 is absolutely incredible. You guys were right all along and, once again, I thank you for your advice and support.

A word to the wise: If you buy a quality HDTV, make sure you also have a quality HDTV provider, and the right box (converter) for your HDTV. Otherwise, you've thrown your money away.

Well its been 6 days and my 32LX60 has been great till today. I noticed a pixel burned out... Called Future Shop and will exchange it, I was told 3 out of 10 LCDs fail??? Anyways I guess this is normal, just did not think it would happen this soon :-( Anyone else had any pixels burn out??
Has anyone used a 600 for gaming. If so, how is it?
scottgriz, some of the inputs can be entered by discrete codes, others cannot (but macros will substitute). I don't know about the harmony, but I use jp1 remotes and have pretty good control over the set. Panasonic generally adheres to one set of codes across its line, but does not always implement all functions, and the codeset was chosen pre-hdmi (for example).

mariamaria, your rooftop antenna should be all that you need, an indoor antenna like the silver surfer is extremely unlikely to add any signal your rooftop one misses, unless it is very badly aimed. If you do want signals you can only pick up from the indoor antenna, use an AB switch or multiplexer, as there is only one antenna input on the TV. (Now, if you have cable, things are worse, in that there is no way to combine cable input and antenna input on this set. You have to commit to one or the other, or use an external tuner for one of them.)

sebabmw, calibrating a set will almost always improve the picture. At the very least, turn sharpness way down (unlike a CRT, 'sharpness' doesn't actually improve focus, only adds edge enhancements, which you don't want). Better is to rent a DVD with the THX video calibration suite on it, even better is to get a calibration DVD like DVE or Avia, best yet (though priciest) is to hire a calibrator.

hathighoda, if your laptop has S-video then this will work, but the picture is not terrific. If your computer's video card is ATI, it might be able to send a dvi signal out over the vga port. Alternately, you could try a transcoder (I wasn't able to get this to work), or a video converter (which will not be much if any better than your computer's built-in S-video).

sebabmw, one pixel out of a million is not so bad...I don;t think our set has any dead pixels, but it likely has one or more stuck at one color (I have software to test for this on PC LCDs, but not on the TV, so do not know). - DR

Hi tbstbs / all

I've been trying to follow your settigs tbstbs, but unfortunately
I have a 32LX50 and NOT an 32LX60, and it looks like the service
menu items are not identical .... and I'm wondering if you or
anyone could shed some light as to what my equivalents of
your "WB-Adj" menu would be ?

Also, I've seen firmware updates for the LX60 out there, odd
that there are no firmware updates for the LX50 ... ?

Here are the LX50 settings and defaults ....

Pict-Adj (remember there is a different set of these for HD and SD)

WB-Adj (there are different sets of these for Vivid, Standard and Cinema)

STB-CAS (interface to sd card slot on back of tv???????)

I was fairly amazed when looking through the service manual this evening and I could not find one single potentiometer in the entire part list for the set!!! The majority of the processing for this set seems to be in just a few ic's!

There really is nowhere I could see to do anything that might affect geometry on this set. IF this is not a configuration issue (either source or tv), then you may simply have a defective circuit somewhere (A-Board maybe?).

One other thing you should REALLY check, use the anamorphic overscan test pattern from DVE. Make sure you are not experiencing a problem in 16x9 and just not seeing it. It would not hurt to look at the geometry patterns as well.
BTW ....
For anyone who is interested,
I think by "Diagnostics Menu" they
are talking about the "Self Check" menu.
Looks interesting ....

"Self-check mode can be accessed by pressing the XXXXXXXXXX.
To exit the Self-Check Mode, press any of the channel selection buttons.
The display returns to the normal screen."

(Not sure if I'm allowed to post this info here .... since this MAY
be considered a service menu by some)

looking into geting eather a panny TC-26LX60 or a samsung LNS2651D for $40 more then the Panasonic to replace an old bedroom 20" Sony CRT that recently bit the dust.

Right now I'm leaning towards getting the panasonic mainly because of how horid the sound from the speakers are on the samsung and the built in qam tunner as i don't believe the samsung has that.

However when looking at the two tvs which circuit city happened to have side by side I noticed that the Samsung seems to have a sharper pict(most likely from the extra contrast) but then its colors were pretty blandish looking compared to the panny. Still I wish the Panasonic had a 4000:1 contrast too

The one thing that did scare me about the Panasonic is when I noticed peoples faces they were really red looking making people look like devils lol. Unfortunately cc doesn't have the remote out so i couldn't play with the settings on it. I would hope that someone just fubered up the setup on that tv. If not is there an easy way to correct it without having to go deep into the service menu changing a bunch of settings?

I have the 32LX60. Colors are excellent out-of-the-box. Do not judge a TV by how it looks in CC or Bestbuy. Adjustments from factory default settings are easy but probably unnecessary. You may want to consider spending a little more and getting the 32" instead of the 26".
The Panasonic colors are OK out of the box, but can definitely be made better with tweaking - especially any hint of clayface.

I just spent a week at my in-laws, they have a Samsung 32" LCD (forgot to write down the model). It was very hard to calibrate, in part because Sammy gives strange names to the settings (eg, backlight is "energy saving mode") and omits others. With a little tweaking it had a nice look, not more accurate than the Panny but a bit more saturated - I can see why plasma lovers tend to favor this set among LCDs.

However, it had very bad wash-out as you moved off 90 degree viewing angle; in this regard it is seriously inferior to the Panasonic, which has a great image from almost any angle. - DR
