PSB Synchrony 1 Towers, PSB Synchrony 2 Centre, NHT Inwall surrounds driven by NAD775 - sounds warm and smooth.
Previous setup was PSB Alpha Towers, Alpha centre and NHT Inwall surrounds driven by Yamaha 665. Sounded good for value but can be a bit harsh at higher volumes.
So I just bought a onkyo htib. This is my first real 5.1 system. I don't really have space for large speakers.. It's a bedroom. I was thinking of upgrading either the fronts or the center channel.. it seems like since the center channel is horizontal, size isn't a problem. the PSB brand is sold by crutchfield which has free shipping to hawaii where I live.. Would it be crazy to buy a really nice center channel and use weak front right/front lefts that came with the htib? This is for movies/tv not music. I was looking to spend maybe $300-400.. would the Image C5 be good?
edit: I did some more reading and I guess the 2 fronts would make more sense to upgrade. also apparently since I'm only using 5.1 speakers, I can bi-amplify them.
edit2: sorry guys I found a deal on some clearance b stock EMP E5Ti that was too good to pass up with free shipping to hawaii. unless they call me and tell me free shipping is not for hawaii which is totally possible
Hi all you PSB owners. I could really do with some advice. I want to go and buy a set tomorrow morning, but am really undecided and have got lots of mixed advice thus far.
Please help me out by commenting my speaker choice here:
I also posted this under it's own thread but for maximum input I'm posting it here as well. I'm currently in a small room, only 12 x 14 but at some point (years, not months) I will be going to a larger room, say 14 x 24. Will the T6's be overpowering in my current small room? I will not be playing at insane volume levels because I live in an apartment, so speakers must perform well at lower volumes as well. These will be for 60% home theater and 40% music. Any ideas, advice and suggestions are appreciated. They will be powered by an Onkyo TX-NR3009 or a Marantz SR7005. Thanks in advance for your help.

I don't think any speaker will "overpower" any room. Simply play them at a comfortable volume, and use room correction. The speakers are the most important component of your system--invest wisely, for today and for the future!
The Synchrony 2 I just think it's been replaced as being #2 to being #3.
So now it's T6,Imagine,Synch 2,Imagine T2,Synch 1.
The Imagine line is being pushed now with the Imagine mins and T2s.
Although I wonder why the minis have the black dust cap of the image line instead of the silver caps the other Imagines have.
The Synch 2 went up $250 a piece for the towers when PSB and NAD prices went up late last year.
Now with the Imagine T2s the Synch 2 got a price drop of $100 from the original price $1500 each to $1400 each.
If they were truly going away there would be a bigger price drop than the just $100 off the original price. It's $350 off but it also got $250 mark up late last year.

Are you in Canada? In the US the Synchrony Two towers were $3500/pair before the price increases, and they stayed that price.
As for the Imagines, the Bs, Ts, and T2s don't have dust caps; they have phase plugs. The Imagine Minis have black dust caps, probably to increase driver surface area (since that driver is so small otherwise). If it were that small AND had a true phase plug, driver surface are would be even smaller.
I was ready to accept a loss of bass since I was replacing two subwoofers, and I was concerned about driving the T2 with the B-60. Neither have turned out to be a problem. Lot's of bass and power.

Outstanding speakers in every way.
Why did you replace the subs? So, are you running with no subs now?

Right, no subs. This system is in my living room and used for stereo music. My HT setup is a pair of Definitive STS towers. Again no subs (other than the built in ones) but it's an 8x10 room and the STS's do a fine job.
Hi, I have the Image T6's and sound great. However I am only driving them with (75 W @8 ohms, 20 Hz ~ 20 kHz with 0.08 % T.H.D)Denon1610.
What would improve the speakers sound the most:
1. A new receiver rated at say100wRMS (same specs as above) but Bi-Amped so basically 100w for lows and 100w for highs? or
2. A new receiver rated at say 140wRMS (same specs) but No bi-amping?
I would love to hear what is best suited to the PSB T6. Any body else biamp the T6's
Thanks

There is very little evidence that bi-amping provides any improvement in sound. Do a search--you will find plenty of information on this topic. IMHO, you are better served by selecting a new receiver with a more advanced Audyssey room correction solution than that offered on your 1610 (e.g the 4311 with Audyssey MultEQ XT32).
Currently I have the very modest PSB 5.1 system consisting of 4 Alpha LR1 and the CLR1 Center with a Subseries 1 subwoofer. When I bought them I just wanted something affordable to get away from TV speakers. I've since been looking into a slight upgrade consisting of Image T6 / C5 / S5. I haven't actually made it to the store yet to audition them yet, but, if they are anything like the little speakers I all ready own I have a feeling I will dig them. For those that have the image series speakers - how do you find them for movies? The C5 looks fairly underwhelming compared to the T6 but I suspect the looks are deceiving. How do they handle dialogue?
I just got a pair of new T65's in sienna from a seller on audiogon. They are hooked up to an Onkyo 8050 in my office (12.5' x 14' x 10') for music. They probably deserve a better integrated or separate amp to make them really sound good but it will do for now.
Would a Cambridge Azure 350A or NAD 316BEE be enough to drive the T65's?

That is what I had and if you decide to upgrade I can definately recommend the T6 and C5 combo. I used the Alpha L/R's for rear channels. Audyssey calculated the C5 xover to 40hz which tellsme it is pretty good, however I changed it to 80hz cause my SVS PB12 NSD sub can do the rest.
Were you considering upgrading the sub?
I do raise the trim on the C5 from what Audyssey sets and then dialog is clean easy to hear.

As a matter of fact I was eye balling the SVS PB12 NSD

Well the PSB subsonic 1 is quite a good little sub but compare it to the SVS PB12 NSD, and 1. The SVS is like a 1000x bigger in size and 2. 1000x better quality sound. No, jokes aside it makes a huge difference.
You could actually go the T5's if you have a decent sub. Specially if movies is your thing.

I was looking at the T5's first but the price difference to upgrade to the T6's seemed fairly insignificant. I'll give them a listen when I head to the city again.
