Here's my gear:
1. SA 8300HD box via TWC
2. Denon 2807 AVR
3. Denon 2910 DVD
4. Pannasonic 50" 60u plasma
4. Polk 7500 speaker system
At the moment, everything is connected via component, since I can't go from the settop to the receiver via HDMI. I run the DVD through component directly to the panny.
Sound from DVD to receiver via toslink.
I have HDMI cables which I purchased through monoprice. I have not been able to get HDMI to work consistently in various configurations. I am worried that the cables are junk, although the threads here suggest that a cable is a cable.
I just watched King Kong, and I must say that image and sound were awesome, although I don't have anything to compare it to. Video was fed into the panny at the default component setting, 480. Since I just spent $5,500, however, I would like to squeeze out the best quality. Fewer cables would be nice, hence my interest in hdmi.
There is no way to go directly from the settop to receiver via hdmi. This is well established by now.
I read a thread at audioholics about two work-arounds for my situation:
a. try hdmi connection from settop to panny, and hdmi from DVD to panny;
b. use a converter, and run everything through it.
Given the above (and please correct me where/if I'm wrong), I have a key question:
Can you suggest a way to set up my system? I wouldn't mind paying $250 for a conversion box if the quality would improve.
Thanks in advance.
