Official Eyefi LX4700/LX4710 Owner Thread - Page 12

Just got my LX4700 today. Awesome monitor! I have one issue though which I would like to see if other folks are also experiencing with this monitor. When I used the Dead Pixel Tester (DPT), there are not dead pixels I could see. However, if I put up a solid green full screen using DPT, there is a single flickering vertical line (about 1/4 to 1/2 inch wide) a little more than a foot from the right edge of the screen. I can replicate this with another software, such as Microsoft Paint with an all green canvas. I am doing this through my computer via the VGA cable. I have yet to try this through component or HDMI input. Anyone else have this problem or care to try and replicate this on their HTPC?

About the remote, I think the IR sensor on the monitor has limited range. You have to point the remote at the bottom right corner of the monitor. My remote does not work if I point it to the far left of the screen.

I just ran the DPT as you mentioned with VGA and I didn't get the same problem. Sorry.

I bet if you you use HDMI inputs, it won't be there. It sounds like an under-scan or screen alignment issue that is only an issue for analog inputs. Go into the control menu (you may need the service menu for this) and tweak this.

How do you enter the service menu? I'm impressed so far with this monitor, but I can't actually adjust the PQ that much...especially in HDMI mode. (Everything is greyed out). Is there a way to unlock the shaded areas to adjust things? I went out and purchased a calibration DVD. You can imagine my frustration when I couldn't even adjust half of the serttings in the calibration DVD.

Also, does this monitor use HDMI ver1.3 or ver1.2? I can't believe the lack of info in the owners manual!!!
I sent you a PM. Most of the settings will be available now (but most of these controls don't apply to HDMI... the most important one is the color balance controls for HDMI).

Keep in mind you will always be at the mercy of upstream equipment and signal source quality. For example, if you have a set-top box (D* or cable), it will do the scaling. Even though a movie is encoded in BlueRay, it doesn't imply that color balancing of the source is correct... especially from early technicolor movies that star Steve McQueen.

I would suggest that you calibrate your picture from a high-def source (don't know if there is something akin to a Video Essentials on BluRay). I used HDNet's calibration screens that air a couple of times a week. Next, I'd get a "trusted" BluRay movie with an excellent transfer, good contrast, good color balance and resolution (don't have recommendations here, but you can canvass other forums for recommendations. I tend to calibrate against movies that have a rich color pallet: Luc Besson, Wes Anderson, Miyazaki, Pixar movies come to mind). Watch the movie (for me it was Robots) and make final calibrations to suit you taste. This will be as good as it gets and this is where you should set you expectations. Stay away from networks that have substandard signal quality (pretty much all Network TV high-def channels , Turner HD, etc. come to mind as poor signal sources) when you are making PQ assessments.

Thank you so much!!! I have managed to correct the color issues that I was having. I would be very interested in opening the ADC calibration option in the service menu but it's grayed out. Any ideas? I talked to the support people, and they didn't know how to access it either but they said that they'd research it. Thank you so much. I really appreciate it.

There are some weird options in there? "Need TV? Yes/no" and "open colse/close" very funny that there is a typo in the firmware.

Is the lx4700 HDMI 1.3 or 1.2??
Sorry to harp on here but is anyone out there? Do you guys have a slight light bleed in the 4 corners? When my screen is completely black, you can barely see light coming in all 4 corners. My brother has a Westinghouse and he has exactly the same thing. Is this normal? It doesn't really bother me because how often are you watching a completely black screen? Any feedback?

Also, is there a firmware update for this monitor?

I am returning the lx4700. Customer service is cross-shipping me a new ByD:sign 4742m to replace it. Fingers crossed I won't have the same issues!

Better test your HDMI port right away - chances are it may not sync to your equipment.

As for the remotes - they are terrible - I have 3. You might as well sit in front of the display and use the buttons on the panel. Just another example of EyeFi quality control being non-existant.
Just checked Walmart.com and they have dropped the Lx4700.
Samsclub.com still has the set.
I bought one on sams club auction for a good price, just got it day before yesterday. I am impressed so far, looks great with xbox 360 and dish 622 hdtv receiver. It seems to be limited to 1280X1024 over VGA, but I plan on using through HDMI port with new computer I will soon be building. Seems like a great deal so far!

Why did you send it back and what is the 4742? I haven't noticed the light bleeding from the edges. The remote isn't great but I just picked up a Harmony 880 for cheap so I'll use that.

The 4742m is the ByD:sign model. Essentially it is the exact same thing. According to Eyefi, the ByD:Sign is "slightly newer" and has better specs.... - but I bet it's the same thing.

My LX4700 now has 3 stuck pixels. I'm not too worried about it as I'm getting a replacement, but I really hope that the new one doesn't have any problems!

I got my replacement 4742...... There is an entire row of dead pixels in the upper left hand corner!

Anyone have this set hooked to a Directv H20? If so can you comment on the PQ with HD channels and Sd channels.
Anyone?
Nope, I've only hooked it up to the DTV Tivo that only connects via S-Vid and I can tell you that it looks terrible. But, I think that any huge panel is going to look bad with that set up. I'm goign to be getting the H20 in about a month. ( I cant get it now as I have too many trees blocking the HD Sats.)
Let me know how the HD and Sd channels look over HDMI or Component. S-video has never looked good on any set up I have had and that has been all with CRT sets. I am interested in this set because of the cost that I can get on the auction site. They are going for around a grand and that may drop even more. There have been few real world screenshots on this thread with National HD channels.

DO NOT BUY A EYEFI OR BYDESIGN!!!! They are pieces of crap. I have 2 of them and both of them did not work. When I recieved a 2nd faulty TV from Eyefi, got this email from them:

First and foremost let me apologize for this inconvenience. I am having our logistics manager immediately ship out another replacement. This is definitely an abnormal situation. How was the condition of the outer carton? (Just want to make sure there isn't a shipping issue) Darian will follow up to arrange the return shipment of the defective unit. Once again I am sorry for these inconveniences.

After 2 more weeks of calls to Thomas Snook, I still didn't have my replacement so I said "screw it" and returned it to Walmart for a refund. I bought a Sony Bravia Instead. (WOW!!!! It's amazing ---no comparison to the EYEFI crap).

If you have had your eyefi or bydesign less than 90 days, trust me, take it back and get a tv that actually works.
Thanks for the warning. I had been looking at this model but the thread had little actual
pics of SD and HD material. I am always weary of that. I have been looking at the Olevia
47 inch LCD. Pics on the thread look great. I have seen the Sony 1080p sets at BB and CC and they also look great.
I am suprised that no one with this display has responded in agreement or disagreement. Anyone with this model care to share there opinions of this set.
I have read numerous posting and everyone here knows WAY MORE about TV's and such than I. Virgin poster here so forgive my ignorance when it comes to some commons terms used by you regular posters!!

Bought a new EYEFI LX4700 and the set looks great. Have it hooked together with a VIP622 DVR and while the picture looks GREAT in HD, non HD channels look somewhat fuzzy or blurry. Any suggestions on what I can do to get better picutre quality? Again, a novice here so forgive me!!!
I having been watching this thread for some time and would love to see some pics of this sets capabilities. PGALL, can you take some pics? It might help give me a idea if what you are seeing is normal for SD on a set that size. Most SD on screens that size looks worse then a smaller set. Pics would be more helpful for evaluation.
Save your time and your money and get anything other than an Eyefi. Like I said, I have more than one of them and they all were terrible. They looked decent when they worked, but unfortunately, they didn't work all of the time. My screen would go black in the middle of a movie. I'd have turn the panel off and on again to get a picture.

The VP of Eyefi even told me that the entire batch of Eyefi's that are stocked at walmart and sams are a limited batch. (They were intended for another retailer who backed out last minute). He said that the next batch of eyefi's that walmart and sams will carry will be of "lesser quality" than the present (crap) inventory.

Stay away from this unknown company. I spent a few extra bucks and went with the Sony Bravia KDL-46V25L1. The difference between the two is astounding.

PQ or just reliability? Scaling better?

Certainly the reliability is better with the sony. The PQ in full hd with the Eyefi is very nice, but, the SD is not very good at all. And since there are very few things to watch in full HD, I was disappointed with the PQ overall.

The PQ on the Sony in SD is fantastic. Probably one of the best that I've tried so far.

How does the Sony handle fast motion? Have been spoiled with my HDTV CRT sets. Have also seen the set you purchased and also the XBR3 which per the specs has a better Wega engine.
Moving in a few weeks and need to purchase a bigger set for the new media room. Thanks for the response.

It handles motion great. I went with the KDL-46v25l1 instead of the XBR due the complaints about "Clouding" from other users in the forums. I have been very pleased with the panel overall. Make sure that you calibrate it though. The default settings leave quite a bit to be desired. It only took about 15 mins to calibrate. I used the isf/monster dvd. (Which isn't that good) but it's the only one I could find. AVIA is apparently much better.

Just got a 4700 at a very nice price. Am very happy with the system but it running at a low resolution. Not using it as a montior but have it hooked up to a PVR and watching TV. It did not come w/ a remote so had to try and find a code on the PVR to use w/ the monitor. While trying different codes I had one where a resolution menu came up on the screen. Could not find this menu in the instructions for either the PVR or 4700. Tried reading posts to see if this were posted anywhere but after an hour or so my eyes started glazing over and thought I'd try to post instead. Any one have any idea how I can get a resolution screen come up so I can change from the 480X764 to something better. PVR is connected w/ HDMI if that helps. Any suggestions?
