Only if you do an 'migration' install which will try and copy all your programs & data along with the upgrade. If you want to go to 64 from 32 you can do a custom install to a clean partition or over the current install which will move all your all your old stuff to a win.old folder.

Depends on what you mean by "system". If you mean that your current hw (CPU, etc.) is 32 bit, then yes. But that's unlikely. More likely you're running 32-bit Windows on 64-bit hw, in which case the answer is "no".

Mike: W7 doesn't do "migration" from XP, which is where RG is now, IIRC.

So if I want to use both MyHD and try out WMC I would need to install a 32-bit system. My HW can do either one, but I will need to use MyHD to watch my old recordings before the malware hit.
Yes. MyHD does not work on 64-bit systems....

Not sure what format your "old recordings" are in, but I think WMC would be pretty happy playing any format that could be played through MyHD.
My "old recordings" were recorded using the HDHR dual tuner and CW_EPG, but I do not know exactly what format. I will start reading the WMC posts and try to figure out what I want to use. Mainly I want to see which has the best HD PQ of either WMC or MyHD. Being I have the first MyJD (MDP-100) version this may make the difference.

I need to also see exactly what is the difference between the 32-bit version and the 64-bit version.

Hi,

Last question, 32?

Better answer, the 64 bit version will run 64 bit programs and 32 bit programs but not all 32 bit programs. It is more restrictive to provide for more security (Business use drives Windows development, Home use is secondarily).

I entered "Windows 32 and 64 bit comparison" into search.com and got a lot of useful looking web pages.

HDHR, Fusion and MyHD all capture ".tp" files.

Fusion is the best playback program by far IMHO. It has a remote.

VLC and MyHD are the other programs that I use for playback and MyHD is used for live watching as it has great timeshifting and a remote.

VLC has better cropping features (Zoom) and is chosen when that is needed or a NAS file is played. MyHD with more than one CPU will not play Network files. No Remote!

Note: I have installed the W7 device driver for my NAS and test played one of the files using VLC so W7 now works just like my other computers running Vista.

As to MCE playing ".tp" files, someone else will need to respond, I have never liked MCE when ever I used it. YMMV

Edit: Can someone report how to play ".tp" in MCE. I just tried and failed.

I would certainly think that WMC would have no problems playing thos files.

The big kicker for me on using Win7 64-bit is that the 32-bit is limited to using 4gb of memory. I have 6gb of memory and couldn't stand the thought of wasting 2gb. I obviously can still run the 32 bit, just lose 2gb of memory.

I've never used any version of MCE but from something I read in another forum, you might try renaming the .tp file to .mpg or possibly .m2ts.

Hi,

I started wondering that MCE was different on Vista (Where I tried) and W7.

I am looking for a reply from someone who actually plays ".tp" files using MCE (WCE ?). If W7 MCE is needed I need not waste time trying Vista.

There are several comments like yours, I could add that perhaps a third party codec is needed which I seem to remember.

Awright, awright! Nani, that's enough OT chatter about the competition.

If it isn't simple enough to figure out without our aid it's probably not worth the bother anyway.
Try to play the .tp files with MediaPlayer first. Tell it to go ahead and play them even though it doesn't want to... it will. Then, use the Video's section of MCE (not recorded tv) to play them.

Hi,

I came to that conclusion already, my interest is close to zero, just trying to help the OP not waste time on something that does not work and counter if necessary comments like:

What is the secret for getting MyHD to work with Win 7? I keep getting an error message that hardware is not supported.

Wrong thread, RG. (But try running the setup.exe in WinXP compatibility mode via its right-click menu. Then you also have to select that mode for running myhd.exe)
So I would need to download the 1.66.1 drivers again and then do the WinXP compatibility deal?

I could not find the other thread - could you point me that way?

Hi,

It's in the "MyHD MDP-130 Meta FAQ"

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=647837

"A.2 Where is the latest driver? ( 1.66.1.1 is most current )"

Read it carefully, as I will be doing tomorrow.

Now to run before the flames catch up with me (and You).

And be sure not to post to the FAQ but instead the main MyHD thread:

These posts were for Vista, but I expect it will work for Win 7 too.

All:

I recently lost a drive and was forced to rebuild. Win2k, SP4, MyHD 1.66.1u, IE6.x, Java RT, etc. On a HP Pavillion, that had been working fine.

I had recently been caught up in the CW_EPG Schedules Direct network issue whence I upgraded to CW_EPG 4.0.1 and everything had been working well until the hard drive crash, last week.

MyHD is installed and working. My SD account is active and proven with getdatanow from the SD web site.

My problem is that every time I install and run CW_EPG 4.0.1 it comes up with a blank column under SD Stations. So I have nothing to map my Tuner channels to.

What am I missing? What can I do to incite the SD channel lineup to show in EPG? What OS issues do I need to satisfy? Dot.Net? XML support?

Any help would be appreciated.

Clarifying: This was a clean installation of CW_EPG on a fresh installation of Win2k SP4, correct? (I.e., you ran the setup exe and didn't try to copy the files from another installation)
Yes, completely fresh install from install .exe's . . .

I'm thinking it's an SD problem, somehow. I have deleted and renewed my channel lineup a few times hoping that something will catch on the EPG side, but so far no action.

Question. When one first opens CW_EPG upon installation, and is prompted to download data, is this first download what establishes the SD Station list? Or should the Station list be populated before the first download?

When I attempt to download info from the Option window things seem to hang indefinitely (longer than I want to wait . . .)

Thanx,

TimKa

Assuming that you've entered the right S.D. credentials, CW_EPG always downloads all of the stations in all of your profiles.

I doubt that this is an S.D. issue. More likely, there's some Win2k wrinkle, as our test base of that OS is now weak to non-existent. Perhaps hdtvincr can guess what's going on....
Late good news: Revisiting my SD lineup, and disabling all but the half dozen HD stations I actually record, then starting CW_EPG, immediately resulted in a download of data and the population of the half dozen stations in the SD Stations column.

The lineup is a medium metro Comcast Digital lineup, thereby comprising a boat-load of stations. CW_EPG must just bog down trying to do that initial download on startup.

But I never did that when I started with 3.0.1, and things worked fine for years. BTW, Win2K has been a fine platform to run on re both MyHD and CW_EPG.

Hope this helps, thanx to all for a fine program.

TimKa--

That is good news. Thanks for the update.

We'll have to look further into why the full station complement failed to download on Win2k. How many stations are in that Comcast lineup of yours?
I missed these last few post... Sorry I'm late.

I believe a recommendation is in the documentation that you only select the SD stations that you want CW-EPG to interact with if at all possible. If you have a boat load of stations, obviously they need to be processed by CW-EPG and a full download is 12 days worth of data. Once that is in place, subsequent downloads should only retrieve 4 days of data, so perhaps that is what you are used to.

I'm not sure if that was your initial issue or not, but I'll look into your report.
TP & HDTVINCR:

The full Comcast lineup here is more than 200.
And,yes, I did glean from the doc about being selective of the stations desired. That is what finally prompted me to pare the list down, ultimately restoring functionality.

Thanks again, it seems I am back on track.

That's error I'm now seeing and it wont manually setup any captures again.
I uninstalled and redid my Java and it still happens, I don't think my firewall or anythings blocking it so wondering if you have a fix for this new issue now. The previous fix you gave me that redid the CW Helper file was working great till this cropped up, at least I found it today when updating and trying to setup my latest round of captures.
Thanks.

This certainly appears to be a Java issue. What did you change just prior to seeing this happen?
I haven't messed with the EPG or updated any drivers for the fusion since you gave me the original CW helper fix so not sure what changed. I unisntalled Java and reinstalled it and it comes up as having the latest version so thinking something else in 7 got wacky and is causing the issue but who knows.
Kaspersky did claim it found a Trojan in my BD rebuilder EXE that had worked fine before the A/V went nuts so I had it delete it and after that it seemed to think the system was all clear again so maybe it scrambled something while it was rattling around then getting deleted.
I did a system restore to before the thing was found and no change so not sure. I might have to do a windows scan and see if it finds and fixes anything that might have gotten screwed up I guess.
I'll have to try it again today and see if anythings changed since it was shutdown overnight but doubtful.

Terry (Dartman), what version of cwhelper are you running? After looking back through this thread, I suspect that you've run into the same issue that Kyle saw in late September, which was fixed in the alpha cwhelper version at that time.
