Vlad, it seems that Elementary wasn't ever shown in my TV market last night. (I watched the final couple of minutes of the SB via my "Elementary" recording) AllenDB's program RecordThis will try to handle these events in an intelligent manner in markets where sports events frequently impinge on Prime Time. You may want to look into that. However, we actually do have a design feature in CW_EPG that's intended to deal with this sort of schedule slip-up when a program may not even get aired as scheduled: As long as you have "New" or "New/Unseen" checked in the Watch options CW_EPG will record that botched episode when it's rescheduled---as it's likely to be (but maybe not within the next two weeks).

Yesterday, however, I ran into my first problem ever resulting in one of CW_EPG's design limitations.

Quick background:
My HTPC/DVR uses CW_EPG to control 3 HDHR3-US devices, so a total of 6 ATSC tuners are available for capturing local OTA HDTV. Yesterday, I programmed all tuners via CW_EPG to record something during primetime. One of the TV shows I put in the capture schedule was yesterday's broadcast of the CBS drama "Elementary", which was scheduled to air a new episode here at 7:00-8:00PM right after the Super Bowl.

I configured the capture settings for "Elementary" to add as much padding as CW_EPG would allow, 15 minutes prior to and 60 minutes following the show. Unfortunately, due to a significant time overrun of the Super Bowl telecast, 60 minutes was not enough, and my resulting capture of "Elementary" is incomplete.

This is my first ever feature request. If possible, I hope a future version of CW_EPG will be configurable enough to allow >60 minutes of post-program padding to a scheduled capture item.

And if anyone here has a complete recording of last night's episode of "Elementary", please PM me. Thanks smile.gif

I've ran into that issue myself before. What I do, although not very elegant, is set a 'record' for the next block or two of time following the show I want. You end up with one or two segments, but at least you get it all.

Question about CW_EPG and HDHomerunPrime,
Does CW_EPG use dynamic allocation of available tuner ? For example I can see that it has scheduled a recording a 8pm on HR-0 and at 8pm somebody is already using HR-0, can it switch to the next one free ?

Thanks.

No, it will attempt to use the tuner that was assigned at the time that the capture was scheduled. I'm not sure what happens if the tuner is "busy".
There was some talk a few month ago to fix CW_EPG to be able to use all the tuners on HDHR (it currently only uses the first 2), is there any plan to fix it ?
Or is there just a workaround for me to tell CW_EPG to use the last 2 tuners ?
Basically HDHR prime has 3 tuners: 0,1,2. I have people in my family that use WMC to watch TV, if I can tell CW_EPG to use tuners: 2,1. This would avoid most of the recording conflicts.

Thanks.

A fix is in the works. Do we have anybody interested in helping us test it? (PM me if you are a Prime user and willing to test)

I am interested in your CW_EPG beta and I have an HDDR prime, and have sent you a PM. Thanks.

I've been running CW EPG for years using the Fusion HDTV 5.

Recently, when starting the computer up, CWHelper.exe failed to start because MSVCR100.dll was not found, followed by Java run time environment not found. I tried reinstalling both, then removing rebooting and reinstalling both, all without success.

Any ideas? All I can think of is that the Java update somehow messed things up, but I would think the remove and reinstall would have fixed that.

TIA

Before I migrated to HDHomerun exclusively for OTA, I used a Fusion 5 USB Gold device, with record scheduling controlled with CW_EPG (on WinXP x86). Over time after the initial installation, the Fusion software would go south for no apparent reason, causing missed recordings.

The only way I could recover was to restore to a backup of the system, made just after installation of the Fusion software. This would work for a while, but eventually a new problem would emerge. Rinse. Repeat. Or alternately, nuke. Repave smile.gif

Do you have a System Restore point, or some other form of backup for your system made before your problem began? If so, I'd try going back to it rather than troubleshooting. Otherwise, hopefully someone else can offer you a solution. I wish you luck.

hziemba--

The missing dll seems to be caused by a Java update. The "cure" is to search your HDD for that file and then make a copy of it in the CW_EPG Program Files folder on your system drive.
msvcr100.dll, the missing file doesn't exist anywhere on my system.

Unfortunately, I don't have a backup of the program files directory.
Well, I got the missing DLL problem solved by downloading the MS Visual C++ distribution from Microsoft - http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_programs/whenever-i-try-to-use-any-java-based-programs/d92af055-ea25-47ae-9d6f-d2b5667e4b77

Unfortunately, while the program does start now without error messages, when I try to schedule the programs, I get the *** CAPTURE SCHEDULE FAILED *** for all of the matched shows.

Did you copy the dll to the CW_EPG Program Files folder? I'm not sure whether simply installing the Visual C package will do the trick or not.

Another possibility is that your channel maps need to be updated, as when I've seen that failed-capture message it's nearly always been because of a change in my cable channel lineup.
Well, deleting the tuner, searching for tuners and mapping the channels solved the problem of not being able to schedule - I'm now able to do that.

Unfortunately, there still appears to be a "problem":

C:\>dir mscvr*.dll /s
Volume in drive C has no label.
Volume Serial Number is 0C48-11D7
File Not Found
But CW EPG still runs without complaining.

hziemba, I don't follow your "problem". There never should be any dll files in the root directory of the C: drive. ???

Edit: Oh, ok, I didn't notice the "/s". Does that switch work on your flavor of Windows? There must be a visual C dll on the drive...perhaps you have system folders hidden?

Hi,

What is the remaining problem?

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\bin\msvcr100.dll" is where the file is on my W7 laptop and checking my XP HTPC it is in "Java\jre7\bin\msvcr100.dll" also.

Doing a "CMD" window search, like you suggest will not work as you are looking for the wrong file, I found many copies of the right file.

I looked at the location you suggested, and I found it at:
C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin\msvcr100.dll (WinXP-SP3)

I'm puzzled that C:\>dir mscvr*.dll /s didn't pick it up, since * is the wildcard character.
When I spelled out the whole filename, I got LOTS of copies - 9+.

Well, like I said earlier, everything seems to be working fine now, so thanks to all of you guys for your help.

That Java update must have caused this problem. We had a program at work that got screwed up by that Java update, which is troubling because Java is updated so frequently.... another reason for putting a frequent and thorough backup process in place.

Windows Explorer also found the files.

I did these fresh searches on W7 64 bit and right clicked to run as Administrator using my normal (UAC active) account and entered my admin account password.

When you spell it correctly it works!

That's why I use copy and paste most of the time to get what I did posted correctly. This is my failed attempt with the wrong spelling.

Don't feel too bad, command line operations using CMD are very hard to get right unless you have been doing them since MSDOS 3.3.

Hi,

and being able to install the OS and the limited number of programs in < two hours also works. Just keep daily backups of CW_EPG's files. (Only History and Matches are really needed.)

http://www.2brightsparks.com/ runs two minutes after CW_EPG every day. (Free and good!)

If you look carefully at your dir command you mistyped 'mscvr*.dll' it should have been 'msvcr*.dll' (switched the 'c' and 'v' characters).

Hi,

For the longest of time the HDHR captures were very reliable, I can hardly remember any failures back then.

Then, about a year so ago, I started to get failed captures. Not even zero byte files.

I remember someone posting a few months ago about failed HDHR captures. There was no discussion that occurred.

All I can think to do is to power everything on my network down and then starting with the wireless router, start powering up again. Including powering off my HTPC with the switch on the power supply.

Wednesday night the "Tonight Show with (well not a Jimmy yet) failed to start.

Today at 18:00 MHz International Mystery failed to start. Repeat at 21:00 set.

HDHR tuners 1,2,3 all have failed to start now. HDHR 4 is unused mainly.

There may be a correlation with watching a capture with Fusion or VLC, but that is unproven.

After powering everything on the network back up the 18:00 capture started.

Puzzled.confused.gif

When was the version with all the computers controlled over the network released? December 2010 is too long ago to be a clue.

"About a year ago" is a pretty slim clue. It seems that something other than CW_EPG has changed in your system. How frequent are these failures? It might be helpful for us to examine the CWHelper log file (in Win7 folder ProgramData\CW_EPG\logs) stdout.txt (and stderr.txt if it's of nonzero length) that includes the timeframe of one of them if you care to attach it here.

I had a couple of failed captures because the HDHR service just stopped responding. It was running according the "Services" console and Task Manager, and I could watch TV just fine using the included software, but no recordings were being made. The machine had been running for over a month without a reboot.

I hate to say it, but this may be one of those stupid cases where a proactive reboot might be a good thing. I don't use CW_EPG to run my captures, but even if I did, the recordings would have failed in the same "apparently for no reason" way.

Hi,

I have not looked at the log file in a long time, and I am unsure at this point where it is. I am running Windows XP SP3.

Looking at my automatic backup, it does not look good. Too many files, and none for 2013!

If that number of files is in the running version, then that may be the problem.

I know my history file is huge as is my match file.

Before asking for more help I will have to find time to reinstall, perhaps switch to Vista. I am seeing playback problems since I converted to one huge partition, sill trying to discover why Fusion aborts on rewind.

------------------------------

Most of my time lately has been spent trying to get a (Windows 3.1 thinking) programmer that an old version of VB6 will not create install packages for Vista, W7 and W8 properly.

"Excuse my English, I use google translator, my language is Spanish, I'm Spanish but I live in Venezuela ".

He is constantly saying, Disable UAC, Reboot, install and re-enable UAC.  NOT!!!  mad.gif

I even have found Spanish in the MSDN which he is not reading IMHO.redface.gif

Nani, the WinXP folder is: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\CW_EPG\logs. You'll find a ton of files there and you can delete all the old ones if you like.

Hi,

That's where SyncBack said it was and now I see files from Today in the NAS.

I did not have hidden files turned on.

I do not see a "CWHelper log file". Is that W7 only? Or is there some place it can be turned on, I cannot see it.

Turning something like that on was what I hoped you would say.
