So anybody got any ideas on how to deal with the overlapping D1/Pioneer receiver remote signals?

While playing a DVD if I turn up the volume on my Pioneer the D1 either skips to the next chapter or acts like I hit the Stop button. Not real convenient.

Any suggestions?

Buy a new receiver.
Scooterboy I have the same problem with my Pioneer 1015tx receiver.
I put the D1 on the lower shelf and the Pioneer on top. I just try to aim at just the receiver when increasing or decreasing the volume. Pain in the you no what, but that's
all I got for now.

Besides, I really like my Pio receiver.

The 4805/D1 combo is working excellent..D1 mod completed in 20 minutes...my Oppo now gets retired to the regular everyday TV room and the D1 graduates to the FP HT room. By the way so far every disc including recorded DVD+R have worked flawless....Thanks Cavu and everyone else involved. This has been fun!

Actually I'm just pissed all this stuff didn't come out a year ago. If I wasn't planning on getting rid of my 4805 soon I'd get a D1 and see what all this hub-bub is about.

Hey Jeff what are you upgrading to? It's time for me too but I'm kind of sitting on the fence at the moment.....

What is wrong with you, just get the D1 and end it, there is no fence.

OOOOHHHHHHH I get it NOW. Your in cahoots with JeffKB. Trying to infiltrate the D1 underground and circulate disinformation. Ok Ok ......

PS: I have PM'd all the D1 Illuminati regarding Brian I am.

Did you do any detailed comparison with your OPPO? I didn't take a lot of time, but knew right away that the pixel mapped D1 picture was much clearer.

OPPO is a nice player, though, I think it will be my backup and dvd-audio player. . .

Yea I love hearing the detail reports, it's kinda like screen shots, nothing you can really tell by them, but they sure do make for a lot of fun.

Hey, y'all, help me out!! I have a Sony DVP NS-70H running into my 4805 via HDMI and I think it looks great. BUT, the dang thing doesn't play PAL disks and I have a lot of them. So, I want another player with digital outs, and if it can be made region free, so much the better. I've read all the gushing over the D1, but what makes it better than, say the Sony I have purely in terms of PQ? The price is right, so if it does PAL I'll probably get one. And, does the D1 have a region free hack??

No doubt about it the D1 at 854x480@48hz was a little sharper than the Oppo @480p...I still need to get out the Avia for a final tweak...but so far Finding Nemo/ The Fifth Element/Shrek 2/ and Gladiator looked a little better on the D1...not that these same movies didn't look excellent with the Oppo...either player you get a great picture. Shrek 2 which loads extremely slow or won't load at all on the Oppo started much easily on the D1.

I own a Pioneer 1014 and have replicated the problem only by placing the remote very close to the player. Thankfully the D1 is situated at the back of the room and the receiver closer to the front therefore the remote doesn't interfere under normal use.

For what it's worth I've utilized the Pioneers remote learning feature and am using that remote for the D1 at this point due to the up/down/left/right/enter buttons being more ergonomic.

i always shut the Bravo off Hard-Switch....(D1 is right next to me)
unit comes up 854x480@47hz (SP4805 tells me) so it holds Custom DVI Settings

Is your Sony capable of supporting custom resolutions? The D1 can do 1:1 pixel mapping nuff said!!! It can also be made region free, and will do PAL.

No need to think...just get one!!!

This is a no brainer, Sell the Sony on Ebay and get a D1, The D1 has taken on all comers including HTPC's and it's an incredible DVD player. When you fire it up and see the image compared to your Sony you'll know why and yes the D1 can play PAL dvd's at 1:1 or scaled as it does that very well to. Thats what it does better - Pure Image Superiority.

Hmmmm....., maybe it's the fact that some go into the custom DVI menu that causes it to reset to 480. Maybe that just happens when you OPEN the Custom DVI setting. Where what your doing is power down and power up with out ever opening the Custom DVI and it's keeping your settings. Either way it's not real hard to reaffirm them, just a few button clicks.

My D1 arrived today. Here's a quick update.

1. Arrived double boxed
2. The player box is double taped.
3. Player inside appeares re-packaged (from the wrinkled and torn plastic)
4. Manual has little smudge on last page.
5. Checked for DOA. Worked at first shot.
6. Should admit that it takes a little longer to load but once loaded it was OK.
7. Played, DVD, VCD, JPEG (JPEG took longest time to load)
8. FUSS loader
9. Cap is 16v.
10. Secret region code menu accessible (so new FW?)

In a normal situation, I would have taken the player back to the store even without trying. But this is D1...

Will change the cap over the week end and do a full test. Hope this will improve the loading time.
Who did you get it from?
i generally turn on the 4805 first and let it warm-up
then when i power on the D1 a info box appears bottom-left screen 854x480@47hz
this tells me i still have the Custom DVI settings
NOW if you go into Setup u can lose this/or switch over to 480P
also if u toggle the TVmode button on the Remote it will not go into CUSTOM DVI
u will need to return to Settings to get Custom DVI (but settings should be there)

Originally they had a BUG in FirmWare and u Lost CUSTOM DVI if u HARD POWER OFF
but there was a FirmWare fix (can't remember if this is Momitsu/Bravo/both)

regardless if u want to know what resolution u are in
i find it eZier to press MENU/INFO on the 4805 remote

If the protective tape (a piece of plastic) is the seal of newness, then my unid also have the same. But look at it this way, how hard is it to stick in a frikin plastic tape just to make it look like new.

What matters is it fires up and does the job.

Very true, when the job it does is off the charts. But get that mod done ASAP it may decide to fart on you in the middle of a movie. Also the Price is incredible for the image. Mine was used but it isn't going back, if it happens to fail on me later on, I'll just get another or move to the D2 as it doesn't need any mods. I just ordered me a Black Lite-On 167T for $23 to my door and will swap it at my leisure. I know it doesn't need it but fron the loader swap thread I think it will only be nicer once done..ie Quieter, Faster and Less Skips< mine has shown a tad tendency to skip once every 2 or 3 DVD's.

Don't be OVER DRAMATIC, it was tongue and cheek, and just meant that the D1 rocks. Frankly I don't see how someone reads these threads and thinks hmmmm I wonder if the D1 is any good. I mean it's only $95 for christ sake. I was given some great advice on a Panny RP30 and man it was a sweet machine on component out. I'm glad others knew what they were talking about(it came frm the AVS DVD forum 2.5 years back) as I just followed their lead. IF something better comes out they can get it also, how long should one wait for something better a few more years. Bob Williams the SP4805 Engineer at Infocus uses the D1 in his test lab as CAVU has pointed out. I think that says it all, at least for me it does.

PS: You forgot to put in you could spend 2-10 times as much money and a 99% chance of winding up with a FAR less capable player. Telling someone to spend $299 on some supoosed top of the line machine is doing the real diservice.

Well, I'm sold! Wish I had just bought one in the first place... I had known about the Bravo but I thought it cost way more than it does now...

Sometimes, some things just ARE that good. Period. I was 100% skeptical that the 4805 was as good as everyone told me too, but look how that turned out. I couldn't be happier! Are there better PJs out there? Sure. For the price? Absolutely not.

As far as things to come, if you're always waiting for the next best thing, then you're just always waiting.
without all the 4805 talk, I would have settled on a X1 or less. Having not seen an X1 a the time, Im glad I bought into the 4805 bandwagon.

Just don't unplug it from the wall and your custom settings will stay saved in the player. If you have a power outage you will have to re-enter the custom res. settings (Personal experience!!!)

OK, cool, I guess I don't have to worry about the sitter pushing the hard power button.

Thanks!

Not according to this previous post:

Note:

Custom settings can revert to 480p if the player loses power and the user enters the setup screen to confirm the settings. The setup screen will indicate 480p, but the output will actually be the previously entered custom settings. On exiting the setup menu, the player will revert to 480p, unless the user re-established the custom setting by performing the steps below: This applies to firmware versions 1.1.11 and below. To re-establish your custom settings:
Player connected via DVI-D
Power the player
Press the TV MODE button on the player remote until 'DVI' appears of the player fluorescent display.
The Bravo D1 splash screen should appear on the TV.
Press SETUP on the player. Scroll to the Video Setting section and enter that area and highlight HD DVI OUT.
Key in 9713. The Custom Settings menu with the settings previously entered will be displayed.
Press ENTER to accept.
Press SETUP to exit the setup menu.

If I'm reading that right, you don't need to re-enter the custom res settings. You just need to bring up the custom res settings screen and hit Enter, then exit Setup.
