Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but we just learned that Samsung has pushed back the launch of the BD-P1000 to 6/25/06.

I was having a hard time figuring out the why and how of Samsung putting a player out well before everyone else. First to market and CD support on top of that. Didn't make sense to me. Delay makes more sense.

so are there going to be any players available on the 5/28 launch date for software?

Great, HD-DVD launches without titles, Blu Ray without a player. could those companies have screwed up any more?

I think most people saw this coming unfortunately...

With Sony and Pioneers announcements, Samsung had been too quiet.

Still sorry to hear - we all know the feeling.

But that's new technology launches for you :)

I'm sure Samsung was relieved to have HD DVD remove the pressure on Samsung to have to rush a player to market. Any extra time to test, tweak, and debug is a positive.

Samsung may delay further. It seems everyone is waiting for HDMI 1.3. Could Samsung get that out as early as June?

The writing was on the wall when Samsung upgraded the specs to 1080p outputs.

Samsung has now broken the silence and announced that they won't ship their player, either, till the end of June.

Since Sony and Pioneer - the two other players - had previously announced delays to July and August, it begs the question...

Will BR movies also now be delayed to the end of June?

Comments please...

It wouldn't seem likely, unless something else is released, like the VIAO RC or the laptop.

The volumes are small enough to warehouse titles without much of an issue, so I would suggest they use the time to have the full late June title set ready for a late June release date.

Nothing unexpected. While the HD-DVD delays are almost over, the BR delays are just beginning :)

Negative news usually doesn't get a press release. Profit warnings being an exception. :)

"Samsung is please to announce the delay of the BDP-1000...." :p

Was there an official Toshiba press release of their delay? Or did they merely get the word out to the press so that plenty of stories quoting Toshiba officials could be spread around?

Toshiba Press Releases

Notice the Jan. 5 press release

CES, Las Vegas, Nevada, January 4, 2006 and Tokyo, Japan, January 5, 2006– Toshiba Corporation today marked a major milestone in the history of the consumer electronics industry and the world of home entertainment with the announcement of the March 2006 commercial launch of the industry's first HD DVD players in the USA.
I don't see one saying anything else, so where are the players?!

I've already cancelled my order with Crutchfield for the Samsung. I can't believe that even Sony isn't going to have their player ready before the software. Maybe HD-DVD will get a 2-3 month jump on blu ray after all (assuming they make their 4/18 release date).
Can you provide anything to prove this??? Personally i dont belive it until samsung says it.

This just keeps getting better and better. First the HD-DVDs delayed. Warner being coy on ICT. Samsung now delaying the BD player. Someone wake me up around 4th quarter and let know know how this whole thing shakes out. :D

Arrrgggg!! I hate these delays, I've been waiting for an HD disc for 7 years now and am about tired of waiting.
To be honest with you. This makes me want to honestly just break down and buy a HD-DVD. I have to wait even longer now for BR? Get your crap together people.

F that. I'm an American and very impulsive.

It was inevitable - all the formats have had their own last minute shake-outs.

Good news is that AVS sent out a PowerBuy notice yesterday for the A1 - I ordered one (that makes two I've ordered, now, since I'm not confident that Best Buy will get mine out in the first tranch).

The notable thing is that they are going out on March 30th! Great news indeed (and this information is from yesterday).

Great! I pre-ordered mine a couple of weeks back. Glad it will be showing up soon. At least I'll have HD content on a disc before too long now.

TV Authority had the product as well. Has anyone called them for availability recently?
