Yes, the resulting picture is nice and has "pop," but that bright-dim-bright-dim fluctuation is really distracting. Kind of akin to motion sickness..

Rev,
I'll take a look at my 32 Samsung with DNIe demo "on" and watch it for a while to see if I can see what you are describing.

This is kind of off topic, but does anyone know how the PIP feature works on the Samsung LNS models.

Is it possible to use picture-in-picture with a digital reciever (DTV-H20)? I wasn't sure how the TV could pick up 2 different channels from 1 signal.

Thanks.

Unplug the cables from the STB, and plug them into the DVD player. Until the receiver arrives, that's what I have to do (receiver arrived today, but there is a problem with that...).

Anyway, I swapped the TV for another at CC today. The new set does not have the firmware glitches the last set had...problem solved!

Is there a MSRP for the LN-S3296D? I was going to pick up the 32 51 next weekend but I'm not sure if that's a good idea if there's going to be new models in two months

Samsung LN-S3296D MSRP $2,199.99.

Samsung LN-S3251D MSRP $1,799.95.

Will the higher dynamic contrast ratio make it worth the extra $400? Looks like thats the only difference between the two

And increased color gamut, 92% of NTSC standard.
Has anyone confirmed the ability of the new 96D series to accept 1080P input via HDMI?

I'm no expert but I have seen alot of posts on other threads (especially JVC 40") about this Is it true this was just an early gen problem as previously stated.

I like the price and pq of the 4092D but its hard to pull the trigger with the 96 just 1.5 months away (Samsung website now says June!).

Grr. I keep waiting and waiting. I might as well wait for this one then. June is a definite? I was searching the model on Google and saw some sites expect in June but one that expects it in August.

The 3292D is available at onecall.com right now. Very well respected online retailer.
Yeah, I've heard of them but I really would rather pick up the tv from a local store just in case. I guess it'll be in stores some time this month? Or Onecall has some deal with Samsung that they have the tv already?

Actually, that lcd on one call is for the 92D. What's the difference between the 92 and 96?

If you are asking about the 32", then I second the question... I've seen both S3292D's and S3296D listed on various google searches.

TVAuthority's coming soon section shows the ww.tvauthority.com/Coming-Soon/Samsung-LN-S3296D[EDIT]. as having a clear plastic piece at the bottom and lists DCR/CableCARD.

They also list the ww.tvauthority.com/Coming-Soon/Samsung-LN-S3292D[EDIT] as coming soon. It seems to have the same specs but black plastic instead of clear like the picture on OneCall. Could the only differences between the two be the styling... similar to the 51/52?

Depending on how much these street for, it may be worth waiting... I saw the S3251D today and was very impressed. Add better colors with new CCFL backlight (92% NTSC color gamut), a CableCARD slot and more square styling and this may be a winner. Then again, the MSRP is like $400 more!

Actually, I just noticed there is a contrast difference as well...

S3292D = 5000:1
S3296D = 6000:1

I realize both of these are with backlight modulation, but is the second just using it more agressively or does it have a better panel?

I was all set to buy a 50" plasma until I got wind of the 4692D and 4696D LCDs. Now, I'm in a waiting mode for the 4696D primarily due to my brain believing the 1080p hype. That and the uncertainty over how sets deinterlace 1080i and what HD-DVD/Blu-Ray will look like, etc.

I did see the 4692D at Best Buy and Circuit City. I was not impressed by the PQ at BB. The picture looked VERY grainy (excessive dot crawl?) which I hope was due to a poor feed. This was most pronounced on the clip of "24" which also made the picture on a Pioneer 5060 look bad (but not as bad). DNIe causing artifacts? No way to know since you can't disable DNIe on the 4692D. The picture did look better at CC (not as grainy), but I believe they had the set hooked up to an upscaled DVD loop and not a true HD feed.

I'm hoping the 4696D will accept 1080p -- anyone know?

The last thing I wasn't too happy about on these sets was the lack of Zoom modes. 4:3, 16:9, Zoom1, and Zoom2. Where is the non-linear stretch for 4:3 material? Also, are you able to stretch a 16:9 input? ie: when you are watching an HD channel that is showing upconverted and pillarboxed SD content. I guess I could always stretch the screen using a cable box.

what do u mean by non linear stretch, whats that???? if you mean stretching the sides of the picture on a 4:3 show to fill the screen, that is what 16:9 mode does.
Non-linear meaning the sides are stretched more than the middle. This makes people in the center of the picture look normal where the sides are stetched a bit more.

At any rate, I'm more concerned whether the set can stretch an HD input. I can live without the fancier horizontal stretch mode.
why would u want to stretch and hd input?

and what does a horizontal stretch do?

I just purchased the 4692 after a great deal of debate. After a few hours of use and playing I noticed that the Zoom1 and Zoom2 feature are both greyed out and non-functional - I called customer service whom told me that they would only be available if I had a cable box and they were broadcasting zoom enabled content?? My old LG STB box allows me to zoom but not the $4,500 Samsung - am I missing something?? - BTW I am watching HD OTA only.

The only other complaint I have (and I am very happy about my purchase) is the lack of a TV guide - again my LG STB has it but I cannot find it on the 4692 - the only information I can find is the "info" button which only shows me what is currently on the channel I am tuned to.

Please tell me I am overlooking something, Thanks.

Pavman, what is your experience level with televisions lcd's and plasmas?

And how would you rate this tv so far in PQ with SD,HD,DVD's,Games???? and what connection are you using?
Maybe a silly question, but would say the 4096 (1080p) upscale the input signal.. I know its ancient technology, but I do have some movies that are only on VHS.. just wondering what the anticipated result would look like on screen? If not, then would have I have to search for an upscaling AVR (which would apparently eliminate the Pio 74 that I was considering...)?

I can go into Zoom1 and Zoom2 without cable box. Mine are not greyed out, and I can full-screen 4:3 content if I wanted. I find your problem odd. Maybe we are talking about two different things?

Btw, had the TV since Friday and love it. I'm pretty much a HD TV newbie but I used some settings posted earlier in this thread for the 40" to configure mine and the PQ is really amazing. Still not sure why they put bulb intensity under power saving area of menu, but as long as it works I don't care (turning it down to 1 above the lowest setting produces a REALLY great PQ in my opinion).

Congrats on the new set!

Yes, we are talking about the same thing - OTA HD content but zoom1 & zoom2 are greyed out. Has anyone else expierenced this?

Ok, we are talking OTA content and that's the difference. I was just using crappy coaxial input until they come install my cable box tomorrow. Never tried OTA.

You have any PQ settings suggestions? Mine looks great, but I'm always into trying something different.
how does SD look on this set? and if yu commenton this, what connection settings did you use for it?

And what about black levels at night?

And viewing angles in a dark room?

How are dvd movies with this set?
