I have the same set, but have not had that problem. Have you tried unplugging it for a few minutes (3+), then plugging it back in?
This seems to fix many of the problems with the 50H81.

Hello Buckett

Yes, I've tried that. I found some info about a convergence IC chip with part number STK-392-110 but I can't seem to locate that on circuit board and can't find schematics for it. But thanks for your help. Take care.

I also had the same problem with mine a few years back. Paid the $250.00 and it has worked ever since. Actually my AMEX card doubled the original warranty so they paid for it. If it happens again I am getting a new one. That set gives me all kind of problems. Can't seem to keep it in focus.

I have a Toshiba 55X81 with the same blinking power LED issue. They probably have the same power supply.

When it first started, many months ago, I could just unplug and replug it and it would be OK until I turned it off again. It has gotten progressively worse. The last time I was able to get it to power up, I just left the TV powered on 24/7. Worked like a champ! Of course yesterday I had a 5 second power outage and when the power came back on the LED was blinking. Unplugging/replugging had no effect this time.

I am now in "stuck" mode. I'm waiting for a couple of days before trying it again in hopes it may self-heal. Other than this problem, the set has been fine for a number of years.

Mine has the same issues for years. Like right after the warranty expired. It was working fine as long as i never shut it off. Now I bought a new TV and moved the 50h81 upstairs to my son's room.
Now it kicks off with in minutes. Will not stay powerd up. Any idea on cost to replace convergence board? I am not handy with a soddering iron.

I too have a 50H81 that is doing the same thing with the blinking red LED. Happened just before the extended warrantyexpired 2 years ago, but started working again before the tech showed so I never pursued as tech never showed for the appointment anyway. Now it will go off for a few days and then will work for a few.
If it wouldn't cost more than $300-$400 I would have it fixed. Anyone in Fort Bragg, NC area that can fix it? would appreciate an e-mail.

Thanks
Jerry

I have the same problem of a red blinking light, no picture but I do get sound. I've unplugged the set and let it sit for 15 minutes, hours, days and nothing. I've opened the back and can't see anything disconnected, burnt out etc. Is this a convergence issue? If so, is it something I can do myself? If so, is there a good tutorial out there? Where do I get the part? I am really looking for advice. I called a couple of repair shops and they tell me $300-450 for a repair.
