I just hooked up my new oppo 83 but could not get the remote to recognize it? Any thoughts? Can the denon remote control all the basic functions of the 83? I have not used the denon remote much

also, my son still watches vcr's, i could not get the video to show on the screen, but the audio was player fine? I know the vcr works.

Thanks

I've no problem playing lossless WMA directly via the Denon UI. Is this something I'm doing incorrectly, or ode 4u2Stream not support lossless WMA?
Thanks

[update] I tried on my 4306. It gives the format error message regardless if played directly or through 4u2Stream. Googling the subject confirmed my suspicion that the 4306 does not support WMA lossless. See for instance this article.

I apparently only came across the firmware updates for my 4306 this past week. So glad I came across them as I always had an issue with the Audissey set up. I applied the firmware with no issues and am up to the latest version listed in the thread. Here's the issues I'm finding currently that some of you may know the answers to now.

1. A bunch of my ripped DVD's that I play through my Apple TV are no longer being decoded as Dolby Digital, but only as Pro Logic II. (Strange since they're only ripped with a single audio track) Same with some channels on my TIVO Series 3. It might just be an issue with when I ripped those DVD's but I swear they had always been Dolby Digital.

2. Since I've applied the Audissey correction some Blu-Ray movies and DVD's sound incredible (like Wall-e), but others are really terrible, like very low voice, or no mid range music, but lots of bass out of the sub. (War of the worlds DVD). Last time I watched WOTW, I don't seem to remember it sounding so terrible. Are the processor updates so drastic that I'm now able to tell good source from bad source? Or does the Audissey correction have something to do with this?

Any help with these issues would be appreciated.

Hmmm.... I play WMA lossless (along with some MP3 songs) from my computer to the 4306 through my LAN all the time with no errors. It's klunky to set up, and the only way to play tracks randomly is to go to the computer and shuffle your playlist in the library - but it does seem to work. (It would be grand if the Denon would have randomized the tracks!). But this is using Windows Media Player, so perhaps the issue is 4u2Stream.

A reboot of the box is the only thing that fixes this problem) after I reboot my media server. I am wondering if the 4306 keeps a session open on the media server even when the unit is not in use (but still powered on) and does not know how to recover when the media server disconnects. I'll try to verify this when I have time.

This is definitely true and a major firmware oversight by Denon.

I have tried to make them aware of the issue but I am not really sure who to tell who can update this. I realise IP must remain active but not streaming music sources.

Worse still ...If you use Internet radio sources and have a capped broadband connection, and are therefore charged (or blocked) over a certain threshold, then this will cost you real money - even when the Denon is switched off !! If you use a 3G connection this is even worse.

It is a very bad implementation and I would have thought you would have a valid case to try and claim against Denon for any such costs . I just wish they would acknowledge the bug (emails) and do something about it. If anyone has the email address of the correct Denon person to notify about this then please PM me.

I have installed the new firmware upgrades and verified they installed properly. However, when I stream LPCM I get no sound. Any ideas as to why it won't read the lossless streams?

What player are you using? I know that for my PS3 I had to go into the settings and tweak a few settings so that it streamed LPCM.

Anyone have experience with drm-free iTunes playing on the 4306? I would assume that through the iPod you were fine, but what about over ethernet cable?

I updated the firmware to add 8-channel lpcm a while back but not aware of additional firmware updates (if any).

Playlists and Denon 4306: Do the playlists have to refer to files on a networked computer, or can they reference tracks on a separate server? I moved all of my tracks to a server, but unfortunately can no longer drag them to playlists.

I have no issue playing back WMA lossless via the 4306 interface, it is when I used 4u2Stream that I receive the "format error" message.

the only way I can get the receiver to pass 1080p24 is by setting analog convert to off, but then there's no sound, doesn't it work with 1080p24?
My 4306 used to pass 24p but as I recall the TVs EDID had to be right. I went through a number of displays and I think at least one didn't advertise 24p capability.

Use the Status button on the front under the flap to walk through all the display resolutions and see if 24p is listed...

Hello, I inherited two denon 4306. They are working fine but when I try to download ssmanage4306.zip from the web interface (save/load restore tool), the zip file is corrupt. Does anyone have this file, and if so, could you please send it to me.

Also, I have seen references to newer firmware but my serial number (US) does not work on the foreign sites to download the new firmware and the US site does not have it. If you have the new firmware could you please send it to me?

Finally, I have a question about connecting IPOD. I see there is cable AKP100. But denon also sells docks. The ASD11R for example. Is it compatible with 4306? And if so, how does it connect to the 4306.

Thanks!

Where do you get the firmware updates in the US?

....

I seem to recall having the same issue with ssmanage4306 and if I recall correctly it's fixed after the firmware updates. Also if you're thinking about using it to backup your settings before the firmware update so that you could put them back in place after the fw update, I don't think that works. IIRC the backups are FW version specific.

For the firmware see Dutchman's post for the instructions & download links. I've checked the 2 rapidshare links and they did work. Follow his instructions carefully and don't try to skip any steps. There is a small risk of 'bricking' the unit, so be aware of the possible outcome before moving forward.

No auto setup needed after the update it keeps the config it has on it right now.

This is for all units that upgrade from 6.0.0.2 and 6.0.0.3.

BUT,

If you have a urly firmware like 6.0.0.0 or 6.0.0.1 on your AVR than you need to upgrade first to 6.0.0.2 after that you must run auto setup and config the AVR-4306 manual again.

I have a different result. I started at Main 056, Sub 036 and DSP at .02. It's obviously an early unit. We attempted the update using the direct-connect method with a crossover cable. Communications test was OK. Update process proceeds through Stage 2/2, 4 of 4 DSP update, then fails each time. I'm left with Main at 99, Sub at 50, and DSP remains at .02.

The unit still functions, however, I've lost the web interface. The user configuration settings were also lost. Any thoughts?

Plea for help...Denon 4306 with latest firmware (per Dutchman's post)

In the past I have been able to play music through my main zone 5.1 setup and zone 2 (pair of outdoor speakers). To do so all I had to do was either use the remote or the receiver web page to turn the zone 2 power on.

I have been trying for the past several hours to get the receiver to output music from my HTPC to the zone 2 speakers. The HTPC is connected via HDMI2 and plays without issue out of the main zone. I'm getting no sound of the outdoor speakers when I turn zone 2 on.

Is there anyway to do this? Is this the Denon refusing to output a digital signal to zone 2?

'Maybe' & 'Yes' to your 2 questions.

If your HTPC has a stereo analog out and will send its audio signal to both the HDMI & analog out simultaneously then you can accomplish what you want. Connect the analog out of your HTPC to your 4306 analog in for the same input source component that you have HDMI2 associated too. Zone1 will use the digital input & zone2/3 will use the analog input, you may have to use 'auto' input mode as well (I just don't recall if that's required or not).

So much for using a single HDMI cable to connect sources to the AVR.

Mike,

Thank you for the quick response. There's a lot to like about the Denon 4306, but things like this really make little sense. I guess I'll be plugging in some more cables today.

Has anyone discovered any 'undocumented' IR commands for Zone3? The one I'm wondering if it exist is to set the 'input function' to 'Source' for Zone3 so that Zone3 will follow Zone1's source selection. The web browser can do it but I'd like to program it into my universal remote as well and it's not in the documented IR commands listing.

Thanks,
Mike

Hello
I want to ask about the Denon 4306.
When the amp decode multi-channel audio signals to me appears just below the words Dolby Digital or DTS indicate offset-4db.
What does this mean;
Open setting to the top downward;

Thank you in advance for your reply

It is the Dialnorm setting the incomming metadata is telling the 4306 to reference. Here's a link that briefly explains Dialnorm:

I'm sure you'll find a lot more info by searching this forum.

Over the past few months on occasion we start to hear static through the 4306. It has occurred on two of the HDMI inputs (DVR and HTPC). It completely overtakes the audio from the program and can be stopped by switching away from the input and back.

It seems to be happening more and more often. Any ideas?

Perhaps poorly seated HDMI cables, or oxidized contacts between the HDMI cables and the devices. Try unplugging and replugging both ends of the cables 3-4 times each. It could also be bad cables as well but for 2 of them to go at the same time would be odd, unless you have a pet (invited or otherwise) that might be chewing on them both equally.

What happens with the video when the sound flakes out?

Mike,

Thanks for the reply...I'll give that a shot. The video remains fine the whole time. When it happens, you first hear a bit of static and then it gets very bad quickly. Sometimes, I swear I'm hearing crosstalk of some sort in the static from something else although I'm not positive.

Ken,
If that doesn't help, you might wonder over into the HDMI thread and search around and see if this kind of issue is or is not a typical HDMI issue. I know a green tinted video is a sign of an HDMI issue but not sure about other common symptoms (yet).

I sold my old 4306 to a friend and he started getting this. After some forum research it seems the consensus is that it's the DSP board and requires repair. Shoddy product and profits from future repairs. Aren't Denon great ?
I bought a 4306 for my Dad on ebay. I'm here working on setting it up, but I simply cannot get 3 speakers to work:
-Either of the L or R of the "surround back" speakers
-The R of the surround speakers , whether that be A or B

I know its not the speakers because I have plugged their wires into the front channel speakers and tested them using the tuner.

What concerns me is that I cannot get the most fundamental functionality out of these: The auto setup does not make the swooping test tones, and the manual setup does not play the white noise.

I have tried the pg 64 reset of the machine using room eq / night buttons.

Is there any chance this is a setting somewhere? What about firmware? I tried checking it according to Dutchman's instructions (surround params and status) and nothing came up.

Any help you can offer is appreciated, I'm freaking out over here.
