Pincushion is caused by the short distance (throw) from the lens to the screen in RPTV sets. To remove it completely would be very expensive. I don't know why it's called pincushion.
To see pincushion check out any RPTV set displaying a 4x3 image on a 19x9 screen. The left and right edges of the image will bow in slightly. The amount of the bow can vary from very hard to see to obvious.
Each company sets it's own standards about how much pincushion amounts to a defect.
Of course, if you buy from a local dealer with a "no cost to you" thirty day return policy then there is nothing to worry about.
Pincushion is not adjustable on microchip displays.
