Interesting - two posters reporting a problem with something in the bottom left hand corner. Is there a pattern here?

Cobra2001, could you please confirm for me that you saw a HLS5687W in a BB? I have not seen any post on here from someone who saw the 56" in a BB. My local BB told me that they were not going to carry the 56" model, only the 50" and 61", along with the HLS5679 LED model. My local Magnolia guys also told me that only the LED model would be in there and the 87 series would be out on the BB floor. I did see him look in the computer and the 61" was listed, but no 56". This was a week or so ago, so maybe it has changed now. Thanks

Week 1 = first buyers get their set, WOW factor, lots of excitement
Week 2 = more buyers more excitement lots of questions
Week 2 and 1/2 = a few glitches here and there still good excitement level
Week 3 = something fishy is going on........we start investigating
Week 4 = green blobs show up and color wheels spin out of control
Week 5 = one of the kids is gone the TV may have eaten him
Week 6 = lamp explosions and mayhem

Yeah, I work at that one. And yeah, a few of the guys there and the manger have decent ammout of knowledge.

If Samsung charges $233, I would expect about $170 from a discounter. Any guesses or real knowledge?

The 15th date might happen, but only a few units are getting in....most likely it would at the end of the month or the first of April.........Tweeter I believe will come through for you. I think in my area they have said the 22nd, so I would add 10days to that.

10bit color should help, with the issues you talked about; you should have excellent flesh tones on "excellent" feeds (live sports, most of the "new" PBS stuff)............but if your feeds include older sources and/or overly aggressive compression (like all the cable sources in Houston), then you will still some green faces, and bad shading areas.

in viewing another xxx87 yesterday the volume level once again didnt seem to be able to go very loud. Changed setting from fixed to variable and that only helped a relatively small amount.
Any comments from owners?

On the HD drive loop they have a car racing game which pQ, in particular, was unbelievable; if this is an example of what we have ahead of us as 1080p content beomes available this is going to be one unbelievable home theatre experience.
Actually... I'm taking delivery today of a 6187... cant wait.

Did any of you notice the noise in the background of these sets? I saw the 6187 in BB and I couldnt believe it.

Sorry I may be mistaken then and it probably was the 50" model that I saw at my local BB. Since my first impression of the set was that it was really small compared to some of the other ones there, that would make sense that it was the 50" model and not the 56" model.

Any news? I think I am taking mine back to BB, as they have a 30 day return policy. I will just get another unit. This really sucks, these new big screens have become very problematic....what happened to the days of a TV lasting for years. It wasn't even an issue. Please keep us up to date of your situation.

I visited the local CC and BB last night in Sarasota FL.

CC had the 5087 on display, with prices for both the 5087 and 5687 as special order items not stocked in the store. No price or availability on the 6187.

BB had the 6187 on display and available for purchase. No pricing or availability on the 5087 or 5687.

It seems the two stores in this town are opposite from each other on which models they will carry. Sounds Advice (Tweeter) had no models on display or in stock, but listed all three sizes in their computer as arriving within a couple weeks.

Maybe but the SXRD was not affected by it. Same feed on the Sony, no noise.

Looking at ordering my HDMI cables from Monoprice and there are two options for the guage of the wire used in the cable.
The cheaper are a 28 Ga. and the more expensive ones are 24 Ga. with a plastic jacket they call "Net Jacket" one review compared them to Monsters cables.
For a 1/3 the price im wondering if the 28 ga. cables would suffice. Anyone using either of these cables from Monoprice?

One week of ownership and I have seen almost no video noise on any source in my house; some sections of dvd's have it, but those same dvd's also had noise on my 4 sxrd's. It seems to be the dvd's themselves on these 1080p sets, they show any imperfections because the picture is so detailed. I consider my set as close to perfection as I can possibly get, I am completely satisfied with my purchase, take care.

Proably depends on the LENGTH of the cable you need. If its 25 ft or more I would go with the thicker wire (24 g.), but otherwise the 28 g. should be fine.

my 5687 had a little noise until I swapped the HDMI cable, now it is perfect.

Considering the Mopoprice 24AWG fancy net jacket cable is practically a tenth the price of a Monster cable, I went ahead and "splurged" on it over the 28AWG. I was very impressed with the cable when I got it two days later in the mail - very heavy duty cable. Unfortunately, I'm still waiting on my 6187 from TVA so I haven't actually used it yet. Don't know if there's really any appreciable difference between the 24AWG or 28AWG cables, but I can certainly vouch for Monoprice's quick service and apparently impressive construction quality.

I am running hdmi to my dvd's and no noise on my 6187set either. Men in Black 2, Star Wars episode 3, Walk the line.... all as perfect as they can be. I still say the blacks are more "pure" and natural on this set than anything I have seen. My 4 factory flawed (blob, purple corners on black and misconverged) sxrd's did not impress me as much as this set does.

I am not the norm -- I preordered back in January, during CES. Wanted to be sure I was at the top of the list (I needed a new tv in time for the World Cup). Others have ordered in the last few weeks and I understand have started to receive calls, which is a good sign. Again, it depends on the model, size and demand.....

Others would probably have more relevant data (I ordered on X, received call on Y, received tv on Z).....

As an aside, I tried out my 360 last night. GP3 and Geo Wars looked and played great (although I suck at both). No noticeable lag. I did have game mode on....

My friend who had never seen a 360 perform before was stunned. My girlfriend couldn't believe the Halo 3 demo was from a game engine. Stellar.

You don't happen to be in Virginia Beach do you? I saw this set at the BB there and I was stunned at the amount of noise. It looked like a snowstorm in any dark parts of the screen. I was really worried. No other set in the store was showing any noise at all - including the 5 other sets on the same feed. I pretty much gave up on the set right there.

Then today I went to a different BB and the TV was STUNNING!!!! Easily the best picture in the store. It even whipped up on the SXRD, although it's settings were obviously in need of some serious tweaks. If I had to guess I'd say that it is probably more sensitive to a weak signal than others, but since I don't plan on doing a 5-way split of the signal in my house, I'm not worried. No one who has one has reported any noise at home.

Sony ns-75 upconverting dvd player. I run theater mode with default settings except for brightness up at 50 instead of 45 as of now. DNIE off (of course it is turned off by default in theater.)

I went ahead and pre-ordered the samsung hd960 upconverting dvd player. I'm hoping that it'll look amazing on these sets.

Your feedback is very promising seeing how you had 4 SXRD's that didn't work for you. Congratulations as it sounds like 2006 is the year of Samsung as they have improved with every panel in the "S" series, LCD, PDP, and now DLP. Keep us informed and BTW how is SD on that black beauty?
