If we are going to get philosophical about it (and in defense of Sed Enough who seems to be taking some heat for not being patient), there is a French proverb that says "Patience is the virtue of asses".

Not taking sides - just pointing out there are sides to everything. Does it strike anyone else as ironic that "patient people" always seem to get impatient with people are aren't patient like them :-)

Maybe it's people who are impatient with chronic complaining that get impatient with those who are impatient with, in this particular case, the powerbuy.

Maybe. And maybe people who set expectations (TVA?) need to understand that their words have consequences even if the consequences seem inconseqential to the rest of us.

Did you ever go to Gilligan's in Monck's Corner? FANTASTIC all-you-can-eat fried shrimp, nothing like the cra*p you get in most restaurants. A bit of a drive but highly recommended. I like Vickery's alot too - they have a great grilled tuna sandwich, among other things. It's nothing like what you're probably thinking.

Oh yes LEDs are cool, but I sure can't wait to see some more reviews on the 87 series and to find out for certain whether they have 10-bit processing. There, I finished up on topic.

Most of us probably read both threads, but why not put the speculations and wants and maybes where they belong?

In looking at the specs and pictures, I'm wondering if they downgraded the speaker system on the xx87 vs the xx68.
The xx68 had 3 speakers on each side and the docs for the xx87 suggest 1 speaker per side.

Any comments? Also, how does it actually sound?

I am curious about the size of the "foot" or pedestal on the set. What is the width of the foot compared to the width of the television? I would assume this ratio would be linear across the other models as well. I am curious as I am looking at purchasing a 56" set (hopefully 88) which has a similar cabinet and have a stand that may fit the foot and have a few inches overhang on either side. I am thinking 3-4 inches on each side. Is anyone else considering something similar?

Too bad you are not looking for the 50" LOL I went as far as to print out an enlarged photo of the set in which it was facing forward, and measured the width of the set and the width of the base, and cross-multiplied with the actual width of the set to find a general estimate of how wide the base is (on the 50"). For the 50", it's somewhere around 34".

The base for the 6187 is about 38" wide. The entire set is about 55" wide... so consider that ratio if you're looking to get a 56" TV.

Have you been able to test whether the optical output in fact transmits 5.1 audio, especially from audio passed from the HDMI inputs? I apologize if this has been answered previously.

Some people like it this close, others don't. You need to go down to your favorite B&M and check it out. (Take a folding chair with you and watch a while.) But be aware that most people find that their size preference grows with time. I now watch a 73" Mits 1080p dlp from about 10 ft, and I'm interested in going larger!

Not yet, but when I have time to mess around with my cables and setup I'll see if I can test that out. Basically you want to see if:

5.1 Source >==(HDMI)==> TV >==(OPTICAL)==> Receiver

will play a 5.1 output, right? Currently my setup is:

5.1 Source(DVD-3910) >==(HDMI)==> TV
5.1 Source(DVD-3910) >==(Optical/DenonLink)== > Receiver (AVR-3806)

So it shouldn't be too hard to rewire, although... crap, then I have to forego using the Harmony, and play with settings on my receiver. Oh well. If I'm able to do this I'll let you know.

So with your current setup, do you have any sound lags at all playing DVD movies without having to set time delays on the DVD or Receiver? 2005 Samsungs are notorious for this "feature".

Im looking to get a 61inch like yours but i have a tv niche that is only 52.6 inches wide and was wanting to know How big would you estimate is the "lip" on the sides of DLP units (I am not talking about the bezel from the front, but from the side of the unit before it slants back to the rear)
Im thinking that i can have some of the tv sticking out of the niche. So if you could measure the sides of your unit for me it would be very helpful.

You beat me to the question!

No sound lag at all. Also, notably, there is no lag while playing video games on my PS2, where there was on my HL-P5063. Game Mode seems to make the lag virtually nonexistent.

It's 2.5 inches on the sides before it begins its slant to the rear, but the slant doesn't seem very aggresive, so it might stick out more than you'd like. I'd go with the 56" TV, since that one would fit much better.

Can you provide us with a description of how you have your components connected? Are you using a home theater system? If so, are you sending video directly to the TV and sending audio to the HT system?

Thank you for your info. You have said that there is no lag when playing video games in game mode. Is there lag when you play games and you are NOT in game mode? I have an xbox 360 and I would like for my games to look as good as possible.
