Gary,

I forgot about the FedEx problem. Hope it gets worked out, will they ship you another one or was it a one shot deal? You have not had the best of luck with amps thats for sure.

thanks
not sure Bill, I think I will get a refund back no problem, but I don't know if I am going to head in the monsterous ATI 3005 way again, it is serious overkill for my 12x12 room, especially consdering that I have calculated the wattage out and I need only 50 some watts to hit my reference peaks, so I was thinking of trying the Boston A7200, but they are gone of course

I was using a Harmony 680 when I had a AVP7 for a short while and it worked great. Only problem was I had to select the Sherwood R-965 (BA was not on the site at that time) because when I selected the P-965 in the Harmony menu it did not have all the functions. So I selected the R-965 and it worked fine. For set-up and on the fly channel level changes I used the remote that came with the AVP7. Everything else I used the 680, I think its a great remote.

Gary,

Keep your eyes open one will pop up on audiogon or e-bay soon enough. Does any of those sites have a section where you can post what you are looking for? That might work if its available.

I am moving to a home that has no room for any Home Theater geat, so I must sell my new (as of April 2006 purchased from OC) Boston AVP7 & A7200 combo. I have it listed on Audiogon if anyone is looking for one.

Interesting - I have twice had Fedex deliver expensive audio gear to the wrong address (a neighbor) and leave it unsigned for (no one was home) in an open carport. One time I was home waiting for it and the Fedex guy claimed I signed for it! Obviously he forged my signature. I actually walked up and down the street looking for it at each neighbor, and sure enough there it sat in the carport. The address was correct - the idiot deliveryman must be illiterate. I complained mightily and got my shipping charge refunded. I no longer complain about UPS!

Does anyone have an update about Firmware or the Sherwood Flash Memory Upgrade?

I am about to buy the Toshiba HD-A1 which has the 5.1 analog outs. Could I be able to listen DD+ or DTS HD with this pre-amp BA Pre/Pro? Thanks!
When you use the analog outputs from the Toshiba it means the Toshiba decodes the signal then convert the signal to analog, so yes any pre/pro or receiver with a 6ch external input will be fine, since the signal is just a conventional analog one.

Has anyone installed the Sherwood Snap Upgrade in their Boston AVP 7?
I love my AVR7120. I think it sounds fantastic. I retired my old Onkyo Integra TX-SV919THX for this thing with fingers crossed. I'm very happy.

Has anyone used the USB audio input? I've tried it with 2 different laptops. Both recognized a new audio device, but same thing happened with both: popping and clicking...very distorted. I have a feeling it's something I'm NOT doing since all I did was plug it in and listen...and then quickly unplug and use the headphone jack!

Anyone have better luck?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Sorry, but the SNAP upgrade requires Sherwood users to send in their units for a physical upgrade of the chip used to store the firmware.

It looks like the highest firm ware update that any of the Boston 7120 users can hope for is 4.1, as it sounds like Sherwood is dropping firmware software updates for non-SNAP modified receivers.

Has anyone done the chip install themselves? I want to but can't seem to find the chip. Anyone know where to get it?

i just purchased a brand new avr7120. i did all the speaker connections and the sound is so bad (no tweaking involved) and the volume is so low that i have to jack it up (-10) just to hear sound. is because i'm using a 14 gauge wires connected to a banana plug? is it better to just insert the bare wire? please help. thanks
post #436 of 510
If it sounds bad, box it up and send it back. The amplifier should provide excellent sound with no exceptions.

You were sent a lemon, send it back.

Has anyone had this happen?

I was watching a DVD and the only surround modes I can use is the Neo cinema etc. The DVD has Dolby digital. When I turn the knob to change the surround mode Dolby doesn't show up. I then went into setup using the OSD and selected Dolby and I get no sound. It seems as if it can't lock into the signal.

Does anyone know how to reset the AVR-7120

Where is the receiver on the Boston Acoustics website?

Since Boston is no longer supporting the AVP7, they no longer list the product on the web site.

You can however get the origninal product, the Sherwood Newcastle P-965 and A-965. S/N 965

There is the decoding button on the front. It should be set to "auto". When you press it it shows where it set to. Options are : auto, Dolby, DTS, PCM and Mpeg.
I will check it tonight, but I thought I tried that. I was thinking I should do a hard reset to see what that will do.

How do you do a hard reset?
I checked last night and I do have it on auto

Figured it out, my dvd player did not have the right output. It was set to pcm out, I switched it to bitrate out and now I have dolby digital.

Is there any way to reprogram the display on the Avp 7? For instance, instead of CD/DVD I would like the display to read HD DVD, is there a way to accomplish this?

Thanks,

i hooked up this baby last night and my goodness! the best-sounding receiver i've ever owned. there's only thing i can't seem to figure out and i need all the help i can get. i have a separate to run 6 zones of speakers however no sound comes out of it. i may be missing a step in setting it up. i tested the amps and the speakers indepedently just to make sure it isn't the problem. what should i be doing in the receiver setup? i appreciate any help i can get.

Yes, using " label" and "enter/memo"buttons behind the fold down door, and the large "multi control" rotary knob on the left. The only input you can't change is the "6/8 ch. input".
