I don't know about you, but I'm a bit uncomfortable with the posting of what is being written to disks. Seeing it in writing may make it seem scarier, and stop the development of better consumer tools.

LOL... Your posting has his entire posting, so even if he edits/deletes his post, the offending bits remain being posted.

Too late!

Honestly, release those movies on HD DVD and the quality won't even compare. Plus we'll ALL buy them!

To Joseph Clark & all others who've made this possible, a big thank you! I made my first HD DVD using a 5 min DVHS capture & it worked like a charm! No jitter & w/DD5.1.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but being new to all this, including capturing hi-def to PC, how can I tell if a TS file will fit onto a dual-layer DVD blank? Or that a DL & a SL blank is needed for a certain TS? How do you know where to split the TS? Thanks.
Sure we'll buy them, but lets clean these post (and quotes) up and keep this thread open. I'd love to see a great sticky out of the important stuff.

Question - When converting my TS files to an mpg in MPEG-VCR, something happens to the soundtrack.....When watching the mpeg, at first the sound is fine, but slowly gets out of synch....by the end, its way off.....the TS doesnt have this problem so it has to be MPEG-VCR....is there a setting that im missing? Anyone have this issue?

RockStrongo,

I had the exact same issue until I switched over to VideoRedo Plus. I also did away with using HDTVtoMPEG as it seems to cause all sorts of issues for DVD Movie Factory 5.

Now all I use it VideoRedo Plus and Ulead DMF 5. Unless I need to do the 1088 fix.

Ill give VideoRedo a try..thank!

BTW - Anyone know how to open multiple TS files in redo? or do I have to combine them before?

Hey guys, sorry if this has been asked before, but...

Are you getting an OSD on your discs? Mine are showing up as HD DVDs, but when I hit pause/play/rewind/ff, it will show the OSD like a regular DVD. Is this happening to your discs as well?

I did, and I tried to send the file yesterday, but I had a switch go bad on my network mid-transfer. I managed to fix the problem, but didn't get another chance to send the file before I left.... for vacation. I still might be able to get it to you tomorrow or Monday. I'll let you know if I get it sent. Sorry for the delay.

Guys, I've done a search & can't find an answer to this. How large a TS or MPG file will fit on a double-layer & a single-layer blank DVD? This is assuming I don't create a menu. Trying to determine where to split the TS or MPG file. Thanks.
Both Movie Factory 5 and VideoStudio 10 re-render MPEG HDTV clips, which takes a long time and of course diminishes the quality.

Is there a way to avoid recoding? The "Do no convert MPEG..." box is checked, but this has no effect.

Am I missing something obvious? I tried making MPEG files with both Womble and VideoRedoPlus.

Has anyone seen this yet?

http://www.compusa.com/products/prod..._HD_DVD_Player

Might make most of this moot.

Yes, most have. No, it won't. That's not a HD DVD player.
Yes I know it's not a HD DVD player. What it seems to do is read a DVD containing ts or wmv files if I am reading the ad correctly. I know previous network players can do this stuff over the network, but not actually read it from a DVD. So if you have archived ts or wmv or other HD files onto DVDs, there is no sense converting it to a true HD DVD.

Might make most of this moot.

acording to the tech spec:

DVD/CD Playback Formats Supported:
Audio CD
CD-R
CD-RW
DVD
DVD-RW/-R
DVD+RW/+R
VCD
HD-DVD

Well, looks like it will do HD-DVD but will only do MPEG2-TS (HD 720p),wonder what happen to 1080i or 1088 that is.??

But $199 tag, that's more like it, wonder how long will it take to boot up??

Regular DVD recorders won't recognize the media. We can still use the procedure, but we'll have to use it with a true HD DVD recorder when the HD DVD recordables come along.

Guys, I have the last piece in place for the guide now and it will be up later today. Sorry this has taken so long. I had more computer related problems because of the storms here in St. Louis. Remember that you can make changes, so as soon as it's posted, let me know what I missed.

8000MB is a safe number if you dont use a menu

make sure your file is 1920x1080i60 and make sure to adjust the HD DVD settings to match in VS/MF5

This looks like the same old LinkPlayer to me, except the CompUSA ad has HD-DVD listed as a supported playback format. Note that it's not HD DVD. I think this is the same old red laser player Avel has been selling for a long time. As such, it won't play true blue laser HD DVDs. This is deceptive advertising. Note also that it doesn't have DVI out, just analog.

My file was indeed 1920x1088, and using fix1088 before converting it to MPEG was enough to make Ulead stop re-rendering it.

Thanks for the help!
