From page 8 English of my manual for the S41:
Connecting Cable TV:
1) Cable without Cable Box_, plug the incoming cable into the ANT 2 IN (CABLE) terminal on the back of the TV.
because this TV is cable-ready, you do not need a cable box to view unscrambled cable channels.
2) Connecting to a Cable Box that Descrambles ALL channels, Find the cable that is connected to the ANT OUT terminal on your cable box. Connect the other end of this cable to the ANT 2 IN (CABLE) terminal on the back of the TV.
There you have it...from the horses mouth.
This is confusing. The plot thickens
. Actually this is somewhat of a nonissue for me too since I use a cable box, but it is an interesting issue. It also may be a discussion that belongs on another forum.
My ten year old CRT was "cable ready" but what they are calling unscrambled in 1) above is confusing. All of the cable analog stations are available directly from the wall for my S3251D as they were for my old CRT. OTA analog and digital channels are available through the "air" antenna connection using the NTSC/ATSC tuner. I don't get any digital stations through the direct cable connection even though there should be some local unencrypted ones. It is my understanding that a QAM tuner is needed for digital cable in order to deal with the compressed signal sent by cable, but QAM only works with unencrypted channels. A normal ATSC tuner won't work for digital cable. A cable box will deal with all of the digital cable channels regardless of encryption and compression, as long as you have paid for the channels.
? Anyway, can someone else check to see if they can receive any digital cable channels with their S3251D using a direct from the wall cable connection. In Richmond all of the cable analog stations are under 100 and the digital ones are over 100. All HD channels would be digital.
