Don't hold your breath waiting for $399.98. What's the point?
There are very limited quantities available in the market, which seem to be selling through very well. The only competing models in the market are the RCA and HD-A1, both of which Toshiba manufactures. Blu-Ray, when it finally hits the market, will be twice as much money.
It's possible there would be some price movement for the Christmas season to help boost sales, at which time the "format war" should be in full swing. Availability will be much better at that time also. But even then, a 20% price drop on brand new technology the first season on the market seems unrealistic, especially when you look at the aggresive pricing Toshiba provided when the unit was released. I think they discounted it before it ever hit the street.
