A local big box warehouse store is advertising an Optoma HD6800. I have never heard of this model before. Is it new or have I been living in a cave? The advertised description and features are:

Well, from the picture I found, I thought at first that maybe it was just a rebadged HD72...but the specs don't match up.

EDIT: D'oh! I was looking at the wrong numbers. Thanks BaN.

I received this from Optoma Canada:

"The Optoma HD6800 is a retail sku of the HD72, and it is new. A great projector with 200 less lumens then the HD72, and it only has a one year warranty".

Yesterday I received a costco coupon book and saw the picture of my HD72 but it's called HD6800. The coupon is $375 off, valid from August 7 to 20, 2006.

BTW, what is a retail sku?

SKU = stock keeping unit

Any Idea for how much they sell it at regular price?

Last week HD6800 Projector was briefly shown on Costco Canada's website for approx $2500.

(H78DC3 was $3800 at same time but has now been reduced to $2999.99)

I have same $375 off coupon ...with Costco's great return policy might be the one to get!

This is what I like about Costco, you don't like it just return it.
Pure and simple.

It's back again (May 9, 2006), with a 92" Panaview screen, for $2500...

Is the 375$ coupon only for the HD6800? Or for the H78DC3 as well?

EDIT: Found the coupon. For HD6800 only and only valid from Aug 7 to 20th.

Specs look good, says capable of taking 1080p(compressed). 2000$ CAD after 375$ coupon is not a bad deal at all.

Seems to have only 1 yr warranty vs 2 for the hd72

will they fixed, or just take it back (as usual) in cosco.

I send e-mail to Optoma support and got similar answer,
but I also ask about the bulb the HD6800 uses :

Quote:

The part number for the lamp in this projector is the same as the HD72 . It is BL-FU220A.

So how the same bulb in "similar" projector is 200lumes less ?

Where can one find the coupon?

The dates are rather odd, valid only 3 months from now?
No free lamp though, I bet.
The price is lower now.

It will be interesting to see what the price is in August when the coupon is valid.

I was strongly leaning toward buying the Infocus IN72 or IN76, but this Optoma is priced too competitively to ignore.
has anyone ordered this yet and taken delivery? how is it? considering it comes with mount, dvi, screen, shipping it is far less expensive than ordering from USA.

I am looking to get a new projector this fall to replace the infocus lcd i have been 'borrowing' from work and this is my choice so far. would be curious to see how happy someone is with it.

Hi guys newbie here
really appreciate your tips - great site-
I'm going to take the plunge on the HD 72 - ooops ....I mean the HD 6800 as soon as I get the coupon thing sorted out. BUT what does anybody think of the H78DC3 ? is this unit worth moving up to or is it overpriced considering the HD72 is now - or soon to be - so reasonably priced??

I went to Costco to get the coupon. I found no coupon for this projector in their book which goes through August.

That said - I'm going to go ahead and buy one anyways. Currently bundled with a 106" Greywolf II
post #23 of 889
just tell costco that you heard about the coupon

when you purchase they may credit you the coupon amount,..It has worked in the past - let us know if it works

Isn't the coupon just in Canada? Not 100% sure on that but that's what I thought.
The coupon from Costco for the HD6800 is only for use in Canada (shipped to Canadian addresses), and only through Costco.ca

It is valid from August 7-20...

Ricksupergood, you might like to review the thread on the H78DC3, The projectore is one of the best 720's out there but there has been a lot of bad press about early bulb failure. Now, that is not to say that the HD6800 couldn't suffer the same fate because it is too new to tell.

The other thing I remember reading is that the HD6800 (HD72) is a DC2 DMD where as the H78DC3 is of course a DC3. The other item to note is that the HD6800 has a HDMI and the H78DC3 uses DVI

I live in Moncton, New Bruswick. How do I go about getting that coupon?

Thanks,

I'm not sure if you need one, most of the time when you order online, the coupon is automatically added at checkout. As usual it will only show online during the promotinal period: Aug 7-20

my experience tells me Al is correct

tones,

If you have a Costco near you, then if you like, just pop in and request the Summer Savings Coupon Book which goes from May 11th through August 27th. In there you will find the coupon pertaining to the HD6800 but as previously stated, ironically it will do you no good when you go to use it because virtually all of the Optoma projectors that Costco carries are only available online at Costco.ca.

The only value that the coupon has is that it alerts you to the fact that during those two weeks in August you can pick up the unit with some substantial savings.

During those two weeks, if you attempt to purchase this projector, the coupon's value will be added into the purchase and reduce the cost accordingly.

Interesting rebadging strategy. I'd bet a bunch it is the same projector. They renamed it to protect other dealers/vendors due to costco's pricing power.
