I have a Dell W4200HD TV and I just bought the DVP5960 last week. I love the DVD Player - except that it will NOT let me upscale my resolution beyond 480P.
I checked and changed HDMI cables, and they are all fine.
The problem seems to be that the player is trying to be too
clever in reading resolutions, and instead of making recommendations
for ideal resolutions, it locks out
(by graying out) those resolutions that it considers unavailable.
From reading this forum, and other web sites, this problem also occurs with Samsung TV's (who make the Dell W4200HD), and other manufacturers too.
This ought to be an easy firmware upgrade, and as someone has already pointed out in this thread, a similar fix already exists for the UK/European model of this DVD player (i.e. the 5960/05).
However, I am worried about flashing my player with firmware intended for another model/variant, especially when everything else works so well!
Come on Philips, why not make it available for the 5960/37?
PS: I know how good the picture can be with upscaling from this player because I have tried it with another HD set that I own (using the same cables too!), the HP LC3260N, and there it works great!
