Westinghouse 47" 1080p LCD (LVM-47w1)

Hopefully this isn't too soon to start a thread on this new monitor listed as "coming soon" on the Westinghouse Web site.

The basics:
  • 1080p
  • 6 HD inputs
  • 47"
  • 6.5ms response rate

Anyone have any inside scoop (substantiated or perhaps even speculated) on when this will hit the market?

Anyone have any other details? I bought the LVM-37w3 recently and have been looking to get something similar, but BIGGER for use in my living room.

It appears as though the panel may be new or different as it's response rate is 6.5ms vs. 8ms on the w3. Would be great to know if the few issues identified on the w3 will be resolved on this set. Looking at the bright side, Westinghouse has seemingly improved each of its next generation sets over the previous version (in many respects I think we can all agree)...so perhaps additional improvements can be expected here as well.

user manual now avaible for download. The user manual is a shared document with 42" Model. Having the docuements ready must mean the 47" is coming very soon. Let's hope the bugs have been ironed out on the 47" model.

I agree. Must be a good sign. I have no idea what generation of panel Westinghouse considers itself to be on now but I am hopeful that it is newer/further along than the W3 and W2 panels. Refresh rate would seem to be an indicator of that...unless refresh can be improved through modifications outside of the panel itself???

I asked Westinghouse today about availability, while on the phone for tech support.

The CS rep said he didn't have any data other than "available by January 2007."

Hmm..... Based on prior model release records from Westinghouse, it usually takes about 1 to 2 months after the web page have been placed before we can see it in local BB or online shops. So, my bet is on end of July or early August rollout.

The wait could be worth it if they work on know issues with the 42" model. Hopefully the lockups and such will be nonexistent on the 47" model. I want to see how the 47" Westy compares with the upcoming 47" Olevia Signature series.

Anyone know if Westinghouse will produce anything larger than the 47" LCD? I'm still kind of torn between this one and a 50" plasma (namely the Panasonic) - 47 is almost a bit too small for me.. Something in the 50-55" range would be perfect...

I was all set to get the 42 inch Westy but the 47 inch is the better size for my room. I would like to get a "rough" date for it's release if it does indeed come out say by or in July I'll wait. If it going to be into the fall I'll go ahead and get the 42inch.

Waiting with baited breath for this thing. 47", wall-mountable, 1080p and supposedly closer to $3000 than $10000. Sounds like a winner to me.
Hurry up, Chi-Mei, or whoever is making these panels....

That's not a confirmed date. That's the only date the rep would give me as a "out by at least this time" date. I imagine we'll see it sooner than that, but that's the only firm data I have.

Westinghouse showed 56" 4K x 2K native pixel panels at CES. I thought Westhinghouse wanted to market the 56" prior to the 47", but gues the plans have changed again. Anyway, the 56" model was aiming at $10k market due having 4x the pixels than the 1080p model. It will be an interesting product if it ever makes it out.

That was highest resolution panel in the world, maybe still is. I think this would be used for speciall purpose displays, for example in medical field. I know NASA used very high resolution B&W displays to view pictures send by spacecraft, I'm sure they would love to have that 56", also Hollywood should be wanting few of those as well, especially that it claims to have 106% NTSC color range, for all that 2k and 4k digital film recordings. For consumer use such high resolution shouldn't make much difference due to lack of video source anywhere near that since we still patiently await for 1080p. Also special purpose design could mean missing simple things like good video scaller for SD signal Do they even have a scaler capable of upscalling 720x480 signal into 3840x2160?

I think that 57" was purely a proof of concept...not unlike many cars that never see the light of day in terms of production.

At some point in Febuary, Westinghouse was serious about getting the 56" out the door and delayed the 47" model. This is what the Westighouse customer service guy told me when I had called to ask about the 47" release date....... I thought it was odd that they made this decsion....also since they were thinking about pricing it at $10K, their marketing department must've been over estimating their branding at this point.... Don't get me wrong, I love westinghouse products at the current price point, but I'd probably think twice about spending $10k on westinghouse branding.... well, at that price, I'll think twice even on the highest end brands.

what is the likelyhood that these sets will have the banding problems of the 42 inch version? I will buy this TV without hesitation if there is no banding.

That another reason I'd like to see this TV. Maybe the "banding" and "lockup" issues have been addressed and corrected with this Model. Like I have posted preivously I don't mind waiting for this TV(my 1st HDTV) if it will indeed be out in June or perhaps early July but I am really wanting an HDTV soon. I already have DirecTv HD channels just need to get full use of them.

The 47" monitor will be almost identical to the 42" panel in all but size. There is not a significant change coming until the new units are unvieled for the next product cycle.

I would expect the "lock-up" issues with the current units to be addressed shortly.

It is listed on the J&R web site and it says coming soon. Based on that they did for the other new Westinghouse products, I would guess that it would likely mean a month or so when it should be initially available.

Since the response time is faster on the 47" wouldn't that mean somewhat different mechanical/electrical differences? I not a tech so I don't know how you make response times faster,just asking.

I also hope the 47" model comes out soon because I'm afraid that I'll spend all my toy money elsewhere if it takes too long...... I've had my eye on this model even before the 42" was released.

BTW, has Westinghouse Service Menu code been released anywhere online? For some reason, I can find SM codes for any other brands find....but Westinghouse still seems to be untapped. Just curious what is the big deal for someone to publish the code?....

I'm with you. Though the 42" would be ok at my 6-8ft viewing,I feel the 47"would be about perfect.

Pardon the likely misspelling, but is Chi Mei the exclusive supplier of panels to Westinghouse (all models)?

Also, I thought that since this panel was listed to have faster response time that it may be the result of a newer generation of panel technology. Someone a few posts up indicated that is likely not the case. My question is, how are you able to know? And if it's something easy to share with us all, please do. Finally, do you know WHEN the next generation of panel technology is expected to arrive in Westinghouse monitors?

I went to the Chi Mei website and the only 42 inch and 47 inch LCDs they had listed both had 8mns response time, even the 56" one had that time. I didn't see any that had 6.5 so maybe the Westy website is wrong about the response time on their 47" model.

Or perhaps the 6.5ms 46" panel is new to them too and just not listed yet? I would hope so as that may also indicate the panel is a "newer" generation panel.
