Westinghouse 47" 1080p LCD (LVM-47w1) - Page 5

The 2 DVI inputs are 1080p capable, so if you have more than one device with HDMI output, just pick up an HDMI to DVI adapter. I do think it would have been smarter to go with 2 HDMI and 1 DVI though.

$2,500 within a couple months would be nice

Does anyone know if the W3 has descrete IR codes?

Will is still have that terrible glossy black finish?

It's also going to be quite a bit more expensive.

I just searched for this TV on pricegrabber and there appear to be 4 online retailers that have this TV in stock.

Someone should get one... and tell us how it is.

Personally, until July 23, I'll be waiting at least until then.

prices seem high. Wonder if those are "pre-order" prices??? Was thinking this was < 3k type price point when it actually hit street.

They seem to be the more reputable online retailers in terms of whether something is actually in stock when they say it is.

Their site right now says ships within 1-2 days and that remaining quantities are limited.

Surely someone will volunteer to be the guinea pig on our collective behalf soon??? ( i was guinea pig with westy 37w3 a few months back!).

[EDIT]

They are defiantly floating around. I do have to say that I am personally amazed that Westinghouse, not a company quite established as the other big names out there, is leading a revolution in 1080P. They are the only manufacturer at this time that has a 37" and a 42" with true 1080P. Now of course they come out with a 47". Westinghouse is on the move !!
Radarcity has the 47" Westinghouse listed at [EDIT] for pre-order pricing.
I hope that is not a typo and that we can expect pricing around that range or lower when it actually becomes available.
Westinghouse has NOT released this product to market as far as I know, (even their website says "coming soon".
Any vendor that says "shipping in x days" is trying to lure you into ordering, then make you wait until it actually becomes available.
How reputable is radarcity?

I just got off the phone with Westinghouse.
Here is a # you can call, 1 (866) 287-5555, (customer support).
The 47" LVM-47w1 is still in preproduction as of today, June 26th, @ 14:04.
There is no estimated release date for the product.
The 2 gentlemen I spoke with, (called twice to make sure), said the 47" models have not shipped, so any vendor claiming to have them in stock are not being truthful.
I personally don't care if they are in stock right now or not, (as I won't buy until the end of Aug. or early Sept.), but wanted to make sure that information being presented here has some sort of basis in fact, (such as direct word from the manufacturer or store that can actually show you the item).
Anyway, I still look forward to seeing how this model performs, and how they compare to other manufacturers models between now and Sept.

Cheers.

Well they are out, I assure you. I would not mislead anyone, I have a reputation at stake.
Ok,are they out or not guys.....................?
Chris - I see that CP has these in stock. Have you taken a test drive? If so could you give us some impressions?

Thanks
of the page to the westy at cleveland plasma. It says in stock.
Looks like it is out. May be Westinghouse releases them to dealers before the official release date. Anyway I plan to wait till I can see it and the price drops below 3k, which I am sure will happen soon if 42" is anything to go by.

No test drive as of yet. Once inventory is high I may pop one open.

So you can confirm that the set has shipped? Have you actually seen one in the box?
I just got email notification from J&R that the 47w1 is "in stock, or coming in very shortly", and their web site no longer says pre-order.
Errmm, that's not the price I was expecting to see I was thinking somewhere between that and radarcity to start off with, then level out at $2500 by Thanksgiving.
Folks: retail links, price talk are not allowed. If you have a question related to pricing, contact the vendor, do not post the request here.

several posts deleted

thanks all
J&R shows these units in stock and ready to ship as well.
I'm also waiting for the price drop to 2500 for a personal purchase. Shouldn't take too long with the competition comming out with similar models.

My squadron is about to buy 3 of these this week for our schedulers to display wx radar, schedules etc. Most of the USAF uses 40-50" plasmas but we wanted something with a bit higher rez and no burn in problems.

3 years ago the USAF purchased thousands of plasmas and every time I fly to another base I notice the horrible burn in on 90% of them since they never rotated the image or took care of them. A shame really =/

I'll be able to play with the 47" a bit since I'm the one who gets to open them and set them up with the computer. I can't wait =) Hopefully the red tape isn't too long.
ordered it, should be here in a couple of days, will try to give some info. Will take requests for specific insights.

snip.... sorry
I received an email this morning from customer support, that the 47" Westinghouse is now shipping to retailers.. prices, seem to vary widely still at this point, but at least it is available..
Hopefully BB gets the 47 and the lock-up/banding issues have been addressed. Not optimistic about the banding.....
Since we can't talk about pricing or websites, and although most people are familiar enough with "deal" searching, I thought I would quick post a couple of ways I find best pricing for a product, and how I follow up on the reputation of the vendor offering that price:

Use Froogle or Yahoo, (shopping), enter the model # of the product you want, (LVM-47w1).
Then perform a sort by price on the results.
Once you find the lowest prices, compare shipping costs related to the product you want, (this part varies widely and obviously affects bottom line / total cost).

Once you have the top 2 or 3 vendors, (for best overall price), then go to resellerratings daught com, and check on the vendors track record for service, returns, etc.

Other helpful websites are pricewatch, techbargains, and dealnews.

Hope this helps, and hopefully doesn't break any posting rules...

It will probably be the same. Although, owners in the eyeFi thread (same panel) made little to no mention of backlight problems such as banding (I still hate calling it that btw). Just one person I believe, though they didn't get into looking for it like the people in the Westinghouse threads have.

edit: the lockups, however, will be addressed like you are hoping. The new 19 series firmware will be on the 47" models out of the gate to fix this.

Awesome!!! I'm pumped somebody on here has order this set and will tell us about it.

What are you going to be testing it against?

Here are my requests.

1. Off air HD broadcasts at 1080i (check for ghosting vs 720p).
2. Xbox 360 performance at both 1080i and 720p (though not all games support both natively, some games like Perfect Dark 0 only do 720p and scale to 1080i)
3. 1080p performace with a PC (or samsungs Blu-Ray player... but I won't hope you have one of those).
4. Playstation 2 performance when using both 480i games and 480p games over component inputs.
5. Legacy video game console performance using composite inputs (see how bad the blur is when playing Super Mario Bros. on an old Nintendo system).
6. 480p DVD.
7. Whatever other reference material you have or can think of to try!!

That's my dream wishlist... of course, I don't expect you to be able to test all those cases.

I stopped in BB again tonight. The 47w1 is still in their system, but still none available anywhere, and still can't place an order for one.
