I've been using a Sony 40" XBR LCD and I really didn't notice a big difference in the picture when looking at it off-center. The laptop I'm typing on right now is horrible in comparison... if I shift my head, there is a big change. On the Sony I can get almost 80 degrees off center before noticing a degradation.
Of course, the Sony uses Cold Cathode Lamps... maybe that makes it's better? It also costs a lot. I think the prices on the new 46" Sony 1080P XBR LCD will be almost *twice* as much as the Westy 47". I'd be curious to see them side by side. I had sort of lost faith in Sony until I started using this one. It's one nice set.
However, with 47" and 1080P, the Westy is the only game in town right now. Anyone seen a 46" Samsung 1080P yet, or is it still vaporware?
I saw the 40" 1080P Samsung hooked to the BluRay in BestBuy the other day, and I must say, it looked better than I remember the 42" Westy and HDDVD looking.
