I personally have not used those three amps but I have heard people say good things about Parasound and B&K gear being used with MAs. I have not heard any feedback with Monitor Audio speakers and Rotel amps.

I have heard the GR-!0's with the Parasound Halo series. In a word, amazing!

I use a Rotel RMB-1095(200x5) with my silver s10 and it's a terrific match.

Doh! I forgot Legairre was running his MAs with a Rotel.

Sounds like any of the three would work great.

In this thread, you will probably find MA owners running with big powerful transistor amps, and it seems that MA like plenty of power.

Someone in this forum had issue with his MA and Cayin tube amp, I was having the same issue with RS6 and Prima Luna Prologue 1 tube amp although now that the speakers are broken in, I am more than happy with the bass but, a big BUT, tube amps seem to put the bass back into the soundstage, so if you want gob smack, chest thumping bass, tube amps may not be a good match.

Also I have to say that Audio Architect is extremely quiet on this issue, it seems that he should have a lot to say being an MA dealer. Maybe this proves something about MA speakers quality.

A few days back I blew the bass driver in a GR-20. The culprit is a Cambridge Audio 540d DVD player. I returned my 1st CA 540d for the same reason, Audio Advisor swiftly replaced it with this one. Now I'm over my 30 day trial period I am dealing with the Dist directly.
Recently the player will make a loud pop during chapter changes, only once in a while. ( 4x during the last week) EEH!!
So I called Kevro Inter, dist in North America, told him "I need another woofer for a GR-20 I bought used, no warranty and that the DVD player cause speaker to blow." Matt at Kevro said he is sending new bass driver a no charge. Thats unbelievable !!
AS for Cambridge Audio, I also own a 640c cd player. Love it. I also like the 540 d, great on DVD A, nice features but, yea but.
Im sending back the 540 d for warranty work. I,m sure they'll check it out, then send it back to me.I'll take it, hook it directly to a TV downstairs, no HTS.
Now to find another DVD player I can trust " hopefully "

It's official, I placed my order today for MA's. I decided to go with 2 pair of RS 6's, RS LCR, and RS W12. I'm trying to decide on a decent receiver under the $1300 mark and pair it with an SACD/DVD-A player (under $800). Any suggestions, since this will be upgraded as soon as the funds allow and I will go pre/pro w/ amp (most likely Rotel). Thanks and I can't wait to get these in my house to replace some tired B&W's!

I have MA 7.1 setup GR20s, GR10s, GRlcr, and GRFx. Pre/pro setup paired with a Pioneer Elite 74, and a Sunfire Cinema Grand Signature 400x7 amp.

I couldn't be any happier with this setup, music, movies, they all sound great. The only thing I would change is probably the Pioneer, I think the preouts are a bit weak for the Sunfire. The pre-output amp
voltage rating on the Pioneer Elite VSX-74TXi is 335mV/2.2 k
ohms.

Any budget pre/pro or pre out receiver recommendations for pairing my new speaker setup (2 pair RS 6's, RS LCR, RS W12) with my Rotel RMB-1095??? I find plenty of info on higher end pre/pro $1500+, but nothing on a good choice for a used pre/pro around $500 with a decent feature set. The item that keeps popping up is the Rotel RSP985 (mfg. 1999-2001 for $2000). Anyone have other suggestions for a pre/pro or good pre out receiver to use?? Any help is appreciated!!

I got a pair of new S8s, and have been reading about how great the old gold reference center is. Anyone's got an idea of how it would match up with my pair of S8s? Or should I just stick to the SLCR instead? For my rear, I got a pair of RS1s.

When MA lists frequency response specs on their site (say 42Hz - 22kHz), does anyone know what dB variation they use, ie. +/-3dB, +/-6dB, ... ?

I would go gold if you can. I felt the Gold LCR was leaps and bounds better than the silver LCR. I have not compared the current silver RS to the gold

I had written MA to ask this same question. This was their reply:

"Hi Frequency Responses are normally quoted as -6dB (corresponding to SPL) as measured by a Microphone -3dB is only used when measuring Power."

It's strange that MA said that because my Silver S10 are listed on their site as +/-3dB 32Hz-30kHz http://www.monitoraudiousa.com/produ...series/s10.htm and these are are essentialy the same as the RS line. Even the Silver S8 shows +/-3dB 35Hz-30kHz http://www.monitoraudiousa.com/produ..._series/s8.htm. Heck the entire Silver line shows +/-3dB on their site, while the RS line doesn't list the rating.

Wonder why MA now uses +/-6 when they used +/-3 in the past? Also +/-3db is used for rating frequency as well as power, not sure why MA told you +/- 3dB is for power only?

I'm about to make a decision on the pre/pro..... The choice is between a used Rotel rsp-1068 ($1000) and a new Outlaw 970 ($700). Which should I go with??? (priority is sound quality)

It sounded odd to me too. Interesting that the S10 & S8 are listed as +/- 3dB. I guess the marketing folks wanted to show a broader freq. range - wait, it isn't. Ultimately, its not the numbers but the sound that is important, and if all of these MA owners are happy and refer to the speakers as natural, coherent, and not lacking in either frequency response or timing, then I can really look forward to my purchase (whenever my flat renovation is done).

if i got a pair of silver RS-6 would i need an amp better than my onkyo TX-SR603?

You won't need a better amp, but you will like your speakers sound more with an amp compared to your Onkyo receiver. I had my RS6's matched to my Integra receiver and I was happy with the sound, until I got a Rotel amp and connected them to the amp; a very noticable difference that will definitely put a smile on your face.

I'm currently using a pair of GR20's for my fronts, and (2) SVS PB12-Plus/2 subs. My question
is considering the subs would I gain anything by upgrading to the GR60's? Or is everything equal because of the subs? Has anyone made a transition from the 20's to the 60's and honestly felt nothing was gained because of the subs?

I am now the proud owner of a pair Walnut RS6's. They are connected to a Denon 2802 amp using IXOS Ixos XHS403 cabling. I used to have the BOSE Accoustimass 15 set (which have now been sold :>). The hifi stored loaned me a pair of Mission M33i until the AM where delivered. I felt the Bose were better then the Missions and now finally I am in Heaven with the Monitor Audio RS6's. Next step is to buy the remaining speakers and sub for the full HT sound. I am looking forward to many fine hours of listening to music and watching movies.

I'M a sold MA user since 1999. I'm moving and will now have a true H/T & music room.
I'm leaning toward the old GR-60 over the new GS-60 and would like to hear some opinions of the two. I can get GR's $2000 less than GS. They will be used for music only and will not use a sub.
I drive @ 140w with Denon AVR-5700 until I get a dedicated stereo high current amp.
I noticed the GS went to 6" drivers and not 6.5"

I've sold all my speakers that are NOT MA!!! (B&W, Energy, Infinity, Paradigm, Klipsch) I just like the natural clarity of Monitors.

My theater is Siver 9i, 12i modified with Gold drivers, (2)10i for rears, ASW210. Then for remote music; 5i, 3i, and 2 pair of DIYs- Gold 6.5" with North D25 tweeters- really nice and Silver 6.5" with Morel M28 tweeters.

Has any one heard any news on delivery for the MA GSW-12. I was told about 4-6 weeks. That was about 4-6 weeks ago. Also looking to add new pre amp to a my system. MA gs60 plus surrounds fueled by B&K 200-7. For both movie and music. Any suggestions? Looking for 7 channel.

Regarding the pre, I just reveived the Motiva DMC-1 yesterday and will be setting it up today. It will be connected to my Sunfire CG 400/5 and replaces a Denon AVR. I have GR60's, 20's and 10's and a CP Gold in-wall (as center channel).

Outlaw has a nice unit at a good price. I also considered Anthem and Sunfire TG IV.

I'm a GR60 owner but not an expert. If you can get GR60's for $2000 less than the current GS60's I think you can hardly go wrong with the GR60's. I've been thrilled with my GR60's and from what I've read the GS line isn't a huge upgrade.

Note that I use the GR60's mostly for 2-channel music and I do use a sub (so technically 2.1 channel) to get those really low bass sounds. The GR60's sound OK without the sub but you get a slightly fuller sound with music with deep bass.

I've been reading through this thread and it looks like a good place to ask a few questions.

I just bought some floor model RS8s for $1000 and an FB 110 subwoofer for $450. Does this sound like a good bargain?

Also, I have a really big living room (two story room, very oddly shaped, ) and I was wondering if I could get away with the RS6 + FB110 sub and save a bit of money? Or maybe move up to a smaller set of the gold series? I can return them within a week if i want something else....... I will be using them for 70% music/ 30% movies.

I decided on Monitor Audio after listening to vandersteen, jmlabs, martin logan, klipsch, paradigm, triangle, boston acoustics, magnepan, jbl, and polk. They were the first speakers to really pull me into the music, although they were setup very well and paired with much a much more expensive CD player and stereo amp than I currently own. I've gotten them back and even the wife likes the improvement!

i plan on buying an amp, but would like to get away with buying only one piece. It seems like the Arcam AV300 does very well with music and video, so I may go with that. I would consider separates if the cost was about the same and improved the music quite a bit. Does anyone have any other recommendations?

Good price on the RS8. The price of Gold GR10 are going to be the same price and I don't think you would enjoy them as much in a large room. The RS8 will be much fuller due to the fact you have 3 drivers to the one of the GR10. You might find a better deal on a sub, but if you play music the most then you may be OK. I've seen the FB 210 for $550. Todays' high current receivers are pretty good, Make sure you don't buy a "bright" sounding one with Monitors speakers unless your room is "dead". Congrats, you'll like Monitor Audio.

I've very anxious to hear Monitors in a acoustically treated room! Gold drivers are so tight anyways... I do like the styling better on the GS, but I'm not buying looks.

I've enjoyed the RS8s, but have been reconsidering the rs6. Do you think the rs8 is really $400 dollars better than the rs6? I guess you get a bigger box and one more driver..........

Do you know how much the GS20 retail for? I might be able to get a similar deal on a floor model of that series.

By the way, what kind of receiver are you using?
