I recently purchased a use pair RX1 at a fair price. What would I gain by switching to the RX2? little better bass extension or it would also provide more clarity in the midrage with the bigger driver?

would it be worth another $300-350 to upgrade from the RX1 to RX2?

thanks

I'm new to this forum and this speaker maker. I'm about to purchase a new TV and some speakers for a small 5.1 home theater setup. I have an existing Klipsch system that needs replacement for a few reasons and the sales guy at a local custom HT retailer suggested Monitor Audio's Raduis HD system, in paticular, the 270HD for the R/L mains and either the 225HD or 250HD as a center.

Size is a major consideration as I'm cramped for space and the dimensions of these components seem to be just what I'm looking for. I'm hoping to get time to set up a good listening session next week and wondered if anyone has any experience with these speakers. If not at least some general information about the company and their products over time would be great.

I live in the suburbs of Philadelphia, PA in the US and can't seem to find ANY reviews of Monitor products on-line. As they are a UK company this might be part of the reason. I can't seem to find them sold in other local electronics outlets. I have heard of the company in the past but know little of them. Any input would be appreciated.

Chaz,

You can find some links to reviews for the radius speakers here. As for dealers within the PA area, perhaps some other readers can direct you to reputable places to purchase.

If anyone can translate german, there is a review of the gx200s on the german monitor audio site. My friends mother is hopefully going to read it for me. The reviewer gave the 200s a 91 out of 100.

Looking for a used GS LCR / Rosewood

Well she read the review. Not being an audiophile, she said it read like an advertisement for the speakers. She said all they did was rave about them. I didn't want to be a nag and ask exactly about what. Guess ill just have to wait for mine and write my own review.

Nice speakers, I heard about using car wax anyone using or thoughts?
Yes to both above posts. I have waxed my speakers and do clean with a towel and ro /di water. Its for my reef tank but makes for streakless cleaning too ill be glad when these are gone and replaced with the walnut. Less cleaning and less showing of dust!

(fairly active bright room)

interesting, thanks for the heads-up. I'm using GS-Series (GS60 fronts, GS-LCR center, Energy RC-R rears) with NAD T175 processor, Parasound Halo A51 amp. Using Denon DVD-3930CI and Pioneer BDP-05FD players (for SD-DVD, BD, CD, SACD, DVD-A, HDCD sources). Very nice sound in general. My room is on the small/medium side and "bright", with aluminum mini-blinds opposite of fronts. I do get some sibilance (harshness) in high's, very dependant on source material. Otherwise GS-60's are very transparent and beautiful sounding.

However, I just purchased Marantz AV7005 processor, Oppo BDP-95 player, Sony SCD-XA5400ES player to replace respective components. Although I've been delayed in getting things installed and configured. Can't wait to compare. But I would really like to replace GS-Series with new GX-Series. we'll see.........

THeDirtyBurd, do you go to the place off of Stadium in Ann Arbor? Which models do they have on the floor? How are the prices? I was thinking of trading my GS for the GX, I bought my GS20's from that store and they seemed pretty decent.

Hi Monitor Audio users,

I'm thinking of getting some Monitor rx8s. Heard them at the store and thought they were great sounding. My concern is that they are 4 ohms. My receiver is a 2112 which officially supports 8 and 6 ohms. Will it be powerful enough to play these? Will my speakers be as loud as they would with comparable 8 ohm speakers?

Are other people running there monitors strait off the receiver without a separate amp? How is the distortion?

Thanks monitor experts!

4 ohm speakers have less impedance so for a given voltage (the 110 coming out of your wall) they will pull MORE current.
the problem with running 4 ohm speakers with a receiver/amp not rated to power 4 ohm speakers is the high current that will be pulled through the amp may be too much for it and blow it out. so it's not the power of your amp you should be concerned about as much as it's likelihood of overheated or melting a wire somewhere and shorting.
I have no experience with your particular receiver running 4 ohm speakers. hopefully someone else on here does and can let you know if it's worth the risk. the rx8's are wonderful speakers in my opinion.

I don't know if this helps, but I'm running a 8 ohm 100 watt amp for my rx6 speakers without issue. Arcam avr200.

Running my Rx8 with a Sony yes a "Sony ES" receiver no problems no distortion using Monoprice 14ga wire absolutely love how it sound with no separate amp. Maybe will add a separate amp in future, but happy with current setup.

Hi,
'
Why not the RX6?. It's rated 6 ohms nominally and is the better speaker of the two...in my opinion.

With the RX8 you get an extra bassdriver, but I found it a bit unbalanced in the low end, with some timing issues. The RX6 has plenty of bass, and can't really imagine the need for extra bass at the expense of overall sound.

Dimitri.

Thanks for that feedback! Is it a Sony ES receiver rated for 4ohm speakers? 6 ohm? Also does it easily get distorted at higher end volume? Did you have to turn it up higher then with your previous speakers?

Also, what are other folks using to power the RX 8? Anyone else using middle tier receivers?

Thank you!

Hi Dmitri - I listened to both the Rx 6 and Rx 8 and I felt I was able to hear a quite a bit more detail in the music with the Rx 8. If the Rx 6 was a 3way instead of 2.5 it probably would be perfect, but I think that mid/bass woofer gets muddled a bit doing mids and lows. What was the timing issue you mention?

I've listened to both at my local audio store, and I felt that the RX6 already had a full-bodied sound that needed no extra bass.

When I listened to the RX8 I felt that the extra bass also introduced some problem to keep the bassline in rythim and light on it's feet. It sounded more sluggish and heavy. And less refined in the low frequencies.

FWIW, I use audyssey XT32 to EQ my system, and it cuts a lot of bass from the RX6's, which tells me that they deliver more than enough bass in my room. So I can't see the need for the RX8.

Which one you choose is up to you. For this kind of money you really can't lose with the MA's, wheater it'd be the 6 or 8.

Dimitri
