Just a question for the RX owners or anyone who may know. I have my RX8s about 10" to a foot away from the wall, should I use the port bungs in the back ports or just leave them open? I have them in now just so I don't loose them, I have been under construction. Thanks

Man I just got a catalog from AA and they have the GX300's with something about a factory refurb for a nice price. I was about a month to late I would have gotten these over the Silver RX8's

Do you mean there is 10" from the rear of the speaker to the wall, or 10" from the front baffle of the speaker to the wall?

Assuming you mean 10" from the rear of the speaker to the wall, you probably don't need the port plugs. But the best way to decide is just to try both ways and decide for yourself. That's the beauty of them - it's so easy to try both ways.

Anyone who bought MA factory refurbished from AA, how is the condition of the speakers?

Do they have scratches or any damages?

My speakers are more or less the same distance from the wall. I like them without the foam plugs. But each setting is different, so try them out and see how bass is affected.

I'll let you know when they arrive.

This is quoted from the site:

"All Factory-Refreshed products have been put through a thorough quality-check and testing by the manufacturer. They work and sound like new. All models come with the manufacturer's original equipment guarantee."

They sound like new but do they look like new?
It would bother me if it had scratches that were clearly visible or too many scratches.
I'm debating getting some new or factory refreshed.

So what is "AA"? I wouldnt mind upgrading my GS20's to the GX100 or 200 but cant see paying the retail price for them. Im cool with refurb for a good price, actually my GS sub is a class B refurb I got from my local dealer when I bought GS20/GSLCR and it only has one small scratch on the side.

"AA" is Audio Advisor.
Thanks! Both the "factory refreshed" GX100, GX200 and GX150 do seem to be really good prices. But only in piano black which looks great but shows every speck of dust.

On a side note, what do you think a set of GS20 / GSLCR in Rose Mahahgony might be worth? They are maybe 2 years old, the GS20's are perfect but the GSLCR had 1 very tiny "ding" on one of the edges (from a couple feet away you cant see it).

I don't really notice a difference myself, just wanted to see if anyone had different results. I'm just going to just leave them out.

Give them a call, some times they have open boxes for floor demos or maybe a 30 day trial return. Might get lucky and find something better than what you want. I was originally buying RX6's but they just happened to have a pair of RX8's in Rosenut labeled "demos" When they came, one box had been opened, the other was not. The speaker in the box that was opened was flawless and the plinth and grill were never opened, so it was a win win. I saved about $300 on the marked RX8 price.

The MA site has warnings to not buy from a few sites for certain reasons, I would read it. I would stick to authorized dealers myself. $1250 is the norm for a pair.

You can read it here>http://www.monitoraudiousa.com/dealers/

Hi All - I was wondering if a Pioneer Elite SC-57 AVR would be able to drive a Monitor Audio Gold or Silver based 5.1 system OK? Say, 2 of the towers as fronts, a smaller center, and a smaller sub.

Thanks,
JD

I would say Yes! My Denon 2312ci drives all five of mine. 2 RX8 fronts, RX silver center and 2 Carnival 2 Surrounds. I also run two powered subs. I am in the process tonight of switching over to my new 3312ci.

My Onkyo TX NR5008 upgraded by The Upgrade Company drives my 5 channel MA Gold system like a champ.
OK, Good to know. But, um, I don't really think that helps with my question. Thanks anyway though!

Just as it did before sending it off for "upgrades."

Thanks Reefdvr27. I checked out the specs on the Denon 2312ci and it looks to me like the Elite SC-57 would be more powerful - so OK to run the Silvers anyway. Although I might as well be reading Greek when I look at that stuff!

Do you think the GX series would be much more demanding of an AVR, or would you have been comfortable running Golds with your Denon?

Since receivers are coming up, I wanted to ask everyone's impressions on different brands and what they thought of each with their MA speakers. I'm looking to upgrade mine soon, price range is $900-1500 with RX-2s currently and plans for an RX Center and RXFX surrounds in the future.

Thanks in advance!
