I have the same tv,it is gorgeous! Has anyone compared the B&W's and RX8's side by side? What did you think? I asked the same question on the B&W thread,I just want to know what differences in the sound people heard..

Anyone have any experience with MA's entry lever MR series?

The 4311 did pretty good running them in stereo. The difference, was very noticible with the bass and mid regions. Bass was more tight and the mid range had more pop. There was a little bit more clarity in the upper regions. I will say this. I received my 5bst conservatively rated at 120wpc, bench test at 154 wpc first and had it hooked up before my 4bsst2 came in. When I switched out the 5bst for the 4bsst2, the difference was not as big as switching from the avr to the 5bst, The 2 channel preamp for music made the biggest diffence in my opinon. Just a pic of the completed system.

I have a pair of M2's, the previous line. Hooked to an old, just-restored Technics integrated (I was working on it yesterday until 01:30am...), which is hooked to my PC and to a CD changer. I have to say I'm not very demanding about this setup. But they sound pretty decent to me, especially considering the price I've paid. Bass tends to be boomy sometimes, I don't know if the amp is to blame, or the speakers, or myself, for sitting so close to the speakers. By the way, one of the reasons why I picked them is that they have front ports, as I had very limited space for them. That might add to the boomy bass too.

I'm not sure when, but I'll take them to the living room and test them with the Yamaha amp. I bet they will sound better. I'll let you know.

The M2 was a reissue of the Bronze B2, and the MR2 is a reissue of the Bronze BR2 (the B2 was the predecessor of the BR2). I have a pair of Bronze B2 that I purchased new from Magnolia Hi-Fi for a special price, and I purchased them after doing an A/B direct comparison between the Bronze B2 and the BR2. Hardly any difference in sound quality between the B2 and the BR2. I have e-mailed Monitor Audio regarding differences between the Bronze B2 and the M2....they replied and said that they're the same speaker, just different model numbers.

I've just logged in to say I forgot to mention that yesterday... Good that someone was watching.

They are very good VFM..
If you are looking to assemble a system for less than 1000, add a budget AV amp + sub and you should be very happy. Not as bright as the newer series IMO.

So, for a budget speaker they are pretty good? The MR4 towers would cost me $480 a pair. Just wondering how they would compare with other speakers in that price range.

Based upon my experience with the B2 (M2), these speakers are a step up on, for example, Infinity's Primus series. Not just a step up in sound quality, but in construction and in appearance.

I just ordered RX8's,RX center and RX surrounds, all in gloss white.. :P

I thought you guys would get a kick out of this story. My son and I were working on one of his puzzles this weekend on the living room floor. I had some light female vocals playing in the background from Pandora. The music was great, filling the house, but I don't think that we were paying too much attention (as in "no, Dad! That piece doesn't go there!!) That was until the end of one song.

It was a live recording and after a slight pause at the end of the song, the recorded audience burst into applause. Both my son and I jumped. He turned around (he's 4) and looked at the speakers (or where he thought the sound had come from) and then looked at me quizzically. Knowingly, I smiled at him.

He smiled back and said "Wow, I thought someone was there." Of course, he's four and he went back to doing his puzzle.

I've had my speakers for almost 3 months now. I can honestly say they get better each time I listen to them. I could not have said it better than my son. There are times when the source material and the imaging create such a realistic soundstage that you would swear that there is someone else in the room. I am so pleased with these speakers.

Which ones do you have?

I would be picking he was listening to some GX's.

That's what drew me to the GX range... female vocals sounded so real on them.

The current setup contains GX300s with a GXW15 Sub.

I also have a GXC350 and C380s for surrounds.

I'm sure the RX8s sound awesome. I commented just to say how pleased I am with Monitor Audio products -- both sound and quality. I confess that I had not heard of Monitor Audio before six months ago when I walked blindly into a big box store hoping to get quality speakers for a new HT setup. The cursory and limited research that I had done to that point led me to B&W and similar pricey options. Luckily, the sales associate told me about Monitor Audio products, even though his store did not sell them.

From that, I started to look into them and really liked what I heard and saw. Three months into my purchase and I am very pleased. I'm sure when you get your RX8s, you'll feel the same way. I think you made an outstanding purchase.

So I am noticing somehting with my RX6's they sound fantastic but when there is really low bass I get a rattle, I cant tell if it comes from the woofer or where precisely it is coming from. I do not have a subwoofer just the RX6 towers and a RX Center. Is that normal when I have since I have no sub? Is the speaker just not able to handle really deep bass? Or is something wrong? My receiver is a Onkyo TX-NR515

I assume you are not talking about a harsh, high frequency popping sound, which would be the amp clipping. If that is the case, you need either a stronger amp, or to reduce the volume.

Is the rattle occurring only from one speaker, or both? I assume from only one speaker. Is this rattle volume related, i.e., does it get worse as the volume increases? Perhaps the woofer is bottoming out. BTW, that is a fairly small tower speaker and will not play real loud below about 50Hz. without bottoming out. Also, I'd make sure you don't have the bass boosted with the equalizer of some other feature.

Check the binding posts and/or banana plugs are all tight and secure.

I once had a rattle from a speaker at high volumes that just turned out to be a loose binding post.

Have any of you tried WALL MOUNTING RX1 / RX2 ? I have read that they are finicky with good placement and may sound bassy etc and then they sound much better..

I dont have the flexibility to standmount them....can just putting them up on shelves or wall mounting be done without too much loss in sound quality.?

I posted a general thread on this earlier today, hope it's ok to bring similar questions to the experts. I'm looking for some feedback on the following speaker setups with MSRP around $6k. Sub will be added separately from the usual suspects (HSU, Rythmic, SVS, etc). Room is 20x16' with high ceilings. Usage is probably 80% TV/movies and 20% music, but ability to do 2ch audio is important. Currently have Denon 3312 receiver; not opposed to adding a 3ch amp for the front speakers if necessary.

I likely will not be able to audition the Monitor Golds as my only local dealer only has the Silver line. I should be able to audition the KEFs, assuming the only local dealer finally returns my phone messages.

1. Klipsch RF-7 II towers, RC-64 II center, RS-62 II (or bookshelf) surrounds - Only setup I have been able to audition so far.

2. KEF R500 towers, R600c center, R800ds (or R100) surrounds
While my preference is for towers, I wonder if replacing the front R500 towers with R300 bookshelves would be a noticeable downgrade when I'll have 1 or 2 subs from the list above?

3. Monitor audio Gold GX100 bookshelves, GX150C center, GXFX (or GX50) surrounds
The Gold towers are definitely outside of my budget, but with the subs again I'm wondering if not having the towers up front might allow me to get a higher-end bookshelf speaker that would lead to a better overall system. Unfortunately the GX350C center is too tall for my setup.

4. Ascend Sierra 1 towers + RAAL upgrade, Horizon tower center + RAAL upgrade (custom to allow for shorter height) and Sierra 1 surrounds.

Of course I expect to get a bias towards to Monitors in this thread, but hopefully some of you may have weighed similar decisions. Thanks, Mike

I haven't heard KEF myself. Would like to ,but no dealers here. Personally,I'm not a fan of bookshelf's,just like the look of floorstanders,that's why I went with the RX8's. The Ascend's are way too plain jane for me. If you don't mind bookshelf speakers,Gold GX100's would be really sweet..

I also prefer the look of floorstanders, but after reading through parts of this thread it's clear that the Gold line really stands out. The Gold towers are more than I want to spend, but with one or two nice subs I'm thinking that (aside from looks) I wouldn't be giving much on the power/sound side going with a nice pair of bookshelves (either the MA GX100 or KEF R300). I actually thought about going that route myself,but its tough when you can't hear them in your own area to see if they are going to be enough.

Ive got the GX50's, hooked to a Elite reciever. More than enough, and Im in a spacious room with hardwoods. Excellent for home theater, and jazz, big band. I went from Polk Audio powered towers to these. The sound is incredible. Also using a Velodyne sub.

What spekaers did you end up going with for your setup?

I went with Gloss White RX8s,RX center and RX surrounds.. They said 7-10 days til they ship..

hey wanted to know what receiver is a good pair and recommended in the 1k range for the monitor audio silver line. the things i have been looking at are the

2. integra 50.4
3. marantz 6007
4. pioneer sc-63

im looking to run the cable box through the receiver. and also looking to connect a speaker switcher to the zone 2 to power speakers around the house.

What are your thought and recommendations?

If I lived in the States (in days like today I wish I was), I'd grab an Onkyo TX-NR818. The Onkyo is on sale for crazy low prices right now.

I have the 818,don't hesitate to get it. Its got so many features it isn't even funny. Made my system sound so much better,thank you XT32!
