My Silver 10's have arrived!
<Removed Links, added them to my photo album in my profile...hopefully it's visible to others>.
I'm not doing any critical listening while they go through the recommended run in period but I do have initial observations.
First fire up the tweeter was extremely sharp. It mellowed out after a few seconds but it started out very shrilly. The more it played the more it settled down.
The speakers are 20" from the back wall. No boominess that I can tell at the volumes I'm playing. I can hear the individual bass notes. Ports are open.
That said, the bass is THERE. More so than the speakers they replaced. I've been running a wide mix of music and when MC Hammer came into play I did a double take. Sounded like my sub was on but it's out being repaired :) Obviously a slight exaggeration but the bass was noticeable.
Playing Manheim Steamroller Christmas music (great recordings and nice instrumentals) I heard something that I had not heard before. There's a portion during the live show where there's blasts of fire on the stage. The sound, like a muffled cannon, actually was three dimensional. I can swear that I heard it behind me. Not sure if that's possible but I swear I heard it. I'll try it again tomorrow.
Clapton unplugged showed nice clarity on bass notes and his guitar. Sheffield Labs Drum CD sounded great. You can picture where each piece of the ensemble is. Didn't push hard yet but am looking forward to seeing what kind of punch he speakers have in the 80- 100hz range.
The soundstage is a lot wider than the old B&W's they replaced.
Turning the volume up 10 db from 'normal' listening volumes starts to show the character. Check out Depeche Mode's Personal Jesus Pump mix sometime on you tube. That song played sorta loud shows that I can't wait to past break in so that I can run the speakers hard. They like power :)
I have a large listening area. Maybe 32 feet or so to the wall the speakers face, 17' wide, 2 story room. Amp is ~400W into 4 ohms. These speakers help me fill in that area. I'm picking up my sub tomorrow so I may throw a blu ray into the mix and check them out in HT mode. Overall...so far so good! Let me know if anyone has specific questions and I'll try to answer them.
EDIT: Sorry Mods...I'm trying to figure out which link is the direct link and I've edited a few times. Then I noticed that it has to go to you for permission to post images every time I post. My apologies!
